Greenhouse Gala + Peach Parfait – Sneak Peek

Hi Everyone.  Happy Tuesday night.

I hope you all had a fabulous day.  Tonight's card is something different.  I told you last night that I was finding was to actually use DSP because I love it so much :-)  Tonight's cardGs41 is a result of that.

I managed to combine two challenges.  The PlayDateCafe color challenge, which was to combine Pale Peach, Peach and lemon.  Of course, I absolutely had to use the new In Color – Peach Parfait!  The sketch si from a really interesting – and very different sketch from the Get Sketchy  team.  I decided this sketch, and this color scheme, would push me way outside of my comfort zone, but I was really excited to try something new.  I made a change to the sketch, in that the item required at the top of the large focal circle was placed at the bottom of the circle.  I needed something to balance out the butterflies and having the element at the top for this particular use of the sketch wasn't working.  You really need to go check the links for the fabulous inspiration and submission cards.

I got out my Greenhouse Gala DSP, cut out one of the fabulous Daffodil Delight and Peach Parfait flowers, mixed it with some of the new 1/8" ribbon and 3 butterflies cut from Daffodil Delight and Vellum paper using my Beautiful Wings embosslit and my Big Shot.

I needed a card for a fabulous young lady who loves butterflies.  This just seemed the ideal sketch to have some fun.  Both the design and the color scheme felt young and fresh – ideal for a teenage lady who has a lot of style!

Here's what I came up with.

Pdccbutterfly (1)

I stamped the wonderful sentiment "dream a little" from the dream a little set.

Card recipe:

  • Card stock:  Peach Parfait, Daffodil Delight
  • Stamps:  Dream a Little (retired)
  • Accessories:  Beautiful Wings embosslit, Vellum Paper, Daffodil Delight and White 1/8" ribbon, half pearls, Perfect Polka Dots embossing folder

Instructions:

  • Run the A2 card base through your Big Shot with the Perfect Polka dots embossing folder – turn card to debossed side
  • Run the Beautiful Wings embosslit through the Big Shot twice – once with a scrap of Daffodil Delight and then again with a scrap of vellum
  • Cut out the flower – or stamp a flower stamp that you are using and cut around with paper snips
  • Do the same with the leaves
  • To assemble, cut three strips of ribbon and wrap them separately around the card and secure with snail.
  • Adhere the two butterfly layers together using snail down the middle of the butterflies.
  • Accent each butterfly with a small half pearl
  • Adhere the flower to the card base over the point that the ribbons join using dimensionals
  • Adhere the leaves underneath the flower with snail.
  • Place butterflies, using mini glue dots in position

Tips:

  • I used two layers of dimensionals on the middle of the outer edges of the flower and snail on the middle of the flower.  The snail allowed the flower middle to adhere to the point where the ribbons joined.  I cut the ribbon ends to make sure I had little spare ribbon.
  • Adhering the middle of the outer layer allows the middle of the outer edges and edges to be on the same plane as the middle of the flower.  Don't forget there's a bump underneath it.
  • As the dimensionals are fairly thin, I used two of them on top of each other.
  • I stamped the sentiment after I had run it through the embossing folder, because most of it would fit between the debossed dots.  You may want to do it first if the sentiment is larger – or do it on a separate piece of card stock and adhere.  I did it on the same plane as the card base, because I didn't want it to become a focal point and take away from the montage of the flower and butterflies.
  • I love the fact the ribbons look like rays of sunshine.
  • I turned the larger butterfly over to have the debossed side up – to match the card base 🙂
  • I cut another piece of cardstock and backed the front piece, because I didn't want the ribbons to show on the inside.  You could leave them as they are beautiful looking ribbons.

On the personal front:  oh, now y'all did go and make me cry this morning:-)  Thank you Brenda, Cherie  Kelli, Kadie and Sue for saying such nice things about me. (blush)

Cherie… you know… you kind of recovered from the problem of the June Bug… I give you credit for trying :-)  Now don't forget to say sorry to the other June Bugs you see… Which reminds me of a Garfield cartoon I saw years ago….  I love Garfield BTW…. Garfield was staring at a spider on the floor (you know that Garfield hates spiders, right?)  Well, the little itsy spider was saying to Garfield.  "Please don't hurt me.  You killed all my family and now I am an orphan."  Garfield looked at the spider, hesitated for a moment, reached out, squished the spider and said; "Not anymore you aren't!"  So, I wonder why Garfield reminded me of Cherie 🙂

Dee, we all want to know… did the Bear find a way to get around your DH's deterrent? 🙂

It has rained all day today – so the deck wasn't finished off.  We have been promised that they will be back to finish off tomorrow.  We really can't wait to get it finished.  The worst part about the rain today, is that we won't be able to sit outside and have dinner tonight!

Well, I am off to give a little love to my new playthings to see if I can get a card made before supper.  I do hope you all have a fabulous Wednesday – hump day – and thank you all for your comments and your support.  Oh…. don't forget – the challenge across at the Paper Players – we are still looking for masculine cards.

As always, thank you for stopping by my little area of the stamping blogosphere.  Hugs to all of you.  Trish, I was thinking about what hat you were wearing today.  Being English and all that?  We poms are a little addicted to our hats!

Big hugs to you all

  1. Love it! I agree with you Jaydee! It does look like rays of sunshine is coming through! Sorry you didn’t get to have your dinner on your deck but maybe soon! Maybe this card will take all the rain out cause it sure did brighten my day! Thanks again for another BEAUTIFUL card!

  2. Such a pretty card! Love how you’ve done the ribbon. Great story about Garfield too, he always did make me laugh! Thanks for playing along with the Play Date Cafe this week!

  3. I remind you of Garfield, hmmm…it’s most certainly not for my love of lasagna. Does he have a goat cheese addiction too? Thanks for the laugh Jaydee! I promise to apologize to any June bugs I meet but trust me I will NOT be going out fo my way to search for them.
Today’s card is another stunner, it’s so summery and fresh. You have really made that narrow ribbon work for you, it’s perfect. I can not wait to order that DSP, It’s very high on my wish list. I have to tell you that I giggle when you state that the card has taken you out of your comfort zone…judging from the amazing cards you’ve been sharing one would think your comfort zone includes most North America! :0)
Trish, you are in my thoughts and prayers, I am planning to run a 5K this weekend with proceeds going to BC reseach. You will be my insperation as I run the “Rack Run and Melon Meander” (don’t you Love the names). Please take care of yourself.
Germaine–I hope things are going better for you. I miss seeing your comments and despite your photo op with George I really don’t hate you.
To One & All have a fabulous Hump Day.
    PS- good morning Lou!

  4. I like the butterfly layering. It makes it much more dimensional and show up better. And that new ribbon is interesting. I am not sure of the narrowness (is that a word) of it. That will take some getting used to for me.

  5. Ooooh! I love the peach parfait card. Such a cute idea to turn the embossed part on the backside. So cleaver. I love your blog and visit every day.

  6. Where do you come up with these ideas? I wish I had just a little bit of your creativity! This card is awesome-just perfect for a young girl. I think anyone would love to get this card!
All of the special elements from the ribbon to the pearls, the debossed side-it is all just beautiful!
I hope the sun comes out in your part of the world, so they can finish your deck! It is raining pretty hard in Ohio today!
Thanks for sharing your talent with us!

  7. So very pretty. I see you are finding ways to make that narrow ribbon work for you. I’m off to my studio to work on a project using my grandmother’s wedding dress. I will be making drawstring pouches for all of the girls in the family. Wish me luck as I am very nervous about cutting this gorgeous dress to pieces!

  8. Oooh, that peach color just sets my heart aflutter. I can’t wait to get all the new colors.
The bears (yes 2 now) haven’t figured out how to drive the tractor yet so the dumpster is still off limits. However, they have actually bitten it so there are little teeth holes around the edges. Bears are very clever. They will shimmy across a steel clothes line to get the bird feeders knocked down.
Hope you all have a great day!

  9. I love the card and the little butterflies. I see I’m going to need to start saving my pennies for a Big Shot because I love the embossed polka dots!!! I also love the new Daffodil Delight…it is like the perfect yellow (my favorite color). Great job with the sketch.

  10. Lovely card! The butterflies are so pretty in their layers with embossing and the ribbon treatment is so pretty.

  11. Just my type of card, bright and happy! You have a winner once again. I like how you’ve placed the ribbons and I wouldn’t have thought to put the flower up on different heights of dimensional’s. What a wonderful idea. I am locking that one away in the vault for future use. The little Butterflies are just oh so pretty, with thier added Pearls and Vellum Paper. I think that Special Girl is going to absolutely love this card to pieces. Thank you for sharing your wonderful creation with us.
Cherie, thank you so very much for your Thoughts and Prayers, they mean a lot to me. I think of you often. I appreciate all of the training and hard work that goes into preparing for just one of these Events, and you do many. BC Research thanks everyone like you with all that they have, and I thank you with all of my Heart. I will be thinking of you. It is supposed to be extremely HOT, so please be prepared. I do worry.
I will continue to send Well Wishes to Everyone Else and to Pray on a Daily Basis. I hope you are all able to at least get up and about. It is also raining, pouring, miserably here. Cold too.
    Cyber hugs, Trish in Wisconsin
