For you Mother: homage to retiring colors # 10

Hi Everyone.  Happy Tuesday night.

Tonight's card features Elements of Style – again.  You know… I really didn't think I would use this set, but bought it because I wanted to get out of my comfort zone.  Well, it's amazing how many times I have inked it up since I got it.  Which goes to show…. try something new! 🙂

I used the color challenge from playdatecafe this week.  The challenge, light green, light blue and cream.  Once again, not a color combination that I use very often, but the cards on the site really made me want to give it a try.  It also allowed me to highlight colors that are retiring:  Brocade Blue, Bashful Blue and Sage Shadow.  I rarely use Very Vanilla, so it was a great chance for me to get that color out too.  Of course, I had to pull out my SmoochSpritz and some half pearls.  I knew that would make you happy, Cherie 🙂

If you are looking for inspiration for something a little different… then pop along to this post on Laurie's blog.  I promise you that you will be off to order the Bouquet Bunch stamp set and some coasters – immediately.  Cos that's what I'm going to do.

I'm working on the tutorial for smoochspritz and want to try out a couple of things on Friday before I finish it up.  But, I promise you, it will be available on my blog this weekend.

Here's the card for tonight

Pdcc27

You can see that the Sage Shadow (layer 2) has been "smooched"!  I used the Silver Foil (118771).  It's very pretty and gives just the right amount of interest to the matt.

Card recipe

  • I stamped the Elements of Style image onto Very Vanilla Using Bashful Blue.  The Very Vanilla layer is 4"H x 3 1/4"W.
  • I colored the flowers with Bashful Blue water color crayon.
  • I colored the leaves using my Sage Shadow water color crayon.  I wanted a very light application so that you could still see the detailing on the leaves.
  • I then stamped the image again on a scrap piece of paper and colored the larger flowers.  I colored them with my crayon and then used my Bashful Blue marker to color the areas that are darker on the stamp.  This gives some depth and interest.
  • I cut the Brocade Blue layer at 3 5/8"H x 3 1/2" W
  • I then cut around the second set of flowers and mounted them onto the layer below using dimensionals.
  • I mounted those onto the Sage Shadow layer (5 3/8"H x 4 1/8"W) which had been spritzed with the Silver Foil SmoochSpritz and left to dry.
  • All that was left was to stamp the "for you" and punch it out with my 1" punch and mount it onto a piece of Brocade Blue punched with my 1 1/4" punch.
  • A couple of different color pearls finished up the card

This is a card that can easily be changed to any color scheme, but I enjoyed playing around with the light blue, light green and cream theme:-)

I'm off to try to make a card tonight.  I'd really like to see if my mojo is flowing and to switch off from my day.  My old man Merlin is curled up on the cushion next to me.  The Ottlite is on to give a little warmth to his arthritic back legs.  He snores like an old man.  Really, he snores very loudly.  It's awfully sweet.  His tail is kinked at the half way point at a perfect 90 degree angle!  A lot of the cats in Singapore have defective tails, or no tail at all.  His would be perfectly normal if it didn't do a right angle to the left!

I was pleased to read that the flood waters are starting to recede in the South.  Words always seem so inadequate at times like this.   My heart and prayers go out to those affected.

I hope you have a fabulous Wednesday.  I am pleased that the weekend is almost upon us.  I Occc4cpreviewshall definitely be spending some time in my new space this weekend.  I have stopped unmounting my stamps until the retiring list comes out.  I will then unmount the ones I want to keep and sell those that I don't use as frequently.  I do like to keep my stamps under control and try to remember the rule of 1 comes in… 1 goes out.. doesn't always work though :-)  I really like to keep the stamps that I enjoy using and get rid of those that I don't use so much. Here's a sneak peek at tomorrow's card…. using one of the new colors – Cajun Craze.  I fell in love with it this weekend!

My stamping space is almost finished, but won't be truly finished until the old stamps leave and the new ones come in.  The clear mount really do make a huge difference though.

As always, thank you so much for spending time in my little area of the stamping blogosphere.  Your visits are ALWAYS appreciated.  Trish, good luck at the oncologist this week.

Hugs to everyone

Jaydee

  1. WOW! (again) Another stunning card Jaydee. Your coloring is wonderful and the layered flowers are the perfect finishing touch. Thanks for the pearls–it’s sort of like a Easter Egg hunt on every post…how many pearls did Jaydee use today and can I spot them all on the first try? :o)
Trish, I’m wearing my hat for you today and sending extra prayers your way.
To One and All, have a Happy Hump Day.
(Mine will be extra happy; I’m moving my college aged daughter home for the summer. I can’t wait to hug that child!!)

  2. Beautiful design. Love the layered flowers which are hand cut! Lovely card. Thanks for playing along with the PDCC this week!

  3. I LOVE this card. Blue is my favourite colour and this will be my favourite set (once I order it …) – now I know what I will do with it. ! Thanks for the inspiration!

  4. Hi Jaydee, and All…This Stamp Set may not be in your Comfort Zone, but it sure is in Mine. I fell in love with it the first second I saw it. I really like what you have managed to do with it here. I like the propped up flowers, and the two different colored pearls are really neat. I can’t get over just how much those pearls of yours add to your cards. To me this is quite an unusual color combo, and I wasn’t sure if I liked it at all. Your card does do it justice, and very well at that. I love where you put the green layer and how you Smooched it. All in all a wonderful card, that anyone would be very happy to receive. Another great creation on your part. I went to Laurie’s Blog, such a cute project those Coasters are. I already have 4 sets of the Coasters, now all I need to do is get the Stamp set. I didn’t know if I liked it or not, but it looks fantastic on the Coasters. I took a gander around while I was on Laurie’s blog, she does some great work, so I signed up to follow her via Email updates. Thanks for sharing her Website with us. I am always happy to find new and interesting sites, capture my attention. I too am anxiously awaiting the Retiring List, can’t wait to see what is on it. Love your tease about tomorrow’s card, very colorful. Stay well, and may you be Blessed.
    Cyber hugs, Trish in Wisconsin
P.S. For those of you following along, I start Chemotherapy next week. Will be bald by the end of the following week. Lol. This should look really cool, the new style for Summer. Lol. I am going this weekend to get my hair buzzed to 3/4 of an inch in preparation. I didn’t want to see my lovely long hair coming out.
    Trish

  5. Beautiful soft card – these colors ARE in my comfort zone, and this card really touched me – well done!

  6. I swear I commented yesterday…I wonder where it went. ;o)
This is such a lovely card, Jaydee. I’ve never used pearls on my cards. Where does one find them? How do you get them to stick? I feel so ignorant, somehow.
Trish, I hope all is going well.

  7. Beautiful card and so exquisite with those pearls! You have me using them now! I love the look of the smooch spray-have to buy some of that too! Thanks for all the directions and sizes too-I know that takes extra time and I appreciate it!

  8. Very pretty card! Love the layered flowers you’ve done. Thanks for playing along with us over at the Play Date Cafe this week!

  9. I need to see your how-to- tutorial–note to self:: come back to see it! This card is beautiful! You did a great job with the color combo–simply beautiful! Love those blue pearls:) Thanks for joining in the fun at the PDCC:)

  10. I spent 2 years in Thailand, and almost all of the cats there have ‘interesting’ tails. Some are so kinked that they’re almost spirals.
