Hi Everyone. Happy Monday night.
Tonight's card uses the Awash with Flowers set and celebrates a couple of retiring colors – Pale Plum and Barely Banana. Two colors I very rarely use, so it was good to get them out and give them a little love. Just a reminder, if you are looking to order retiring colors in card stock, inks, etc. I really suggest you do them earlier rather than later. 🙂
There is a special from SU this month, to celebrate National Scrapbooking Month. You can find details on the free goodies you can get on my sidebar – or directly on this link.
I was going to do the tutorial on using the SmoochSpritz, but it has been another long day and I don't think I could put a tutorial together that was even slightly coherent for you. I promise though, that I will do it before the week is out.
Tonight's card is for two challenges – color throwdown number 90. The colors: Pale Plum, Old Olive, Rich Razzleberry and Barely Banana. Wow… that was quite a color combination for me. The sketch is from lordhavemercy mtsc71 challenge. I changed the sketch just ever so slightly. I didn't put an element on the top right hand corner.
I pulled out some of my all time favorite DSP – from lovely flowers. It works so well, because it is Rich Razzleberry and has a hint of Pale Plum.
I had fun playing with the colors:-)
Card recipe:
Card Stock: Rich Razzleberry, Pale Plum, Whisper White
Inks: Barely Banana, Rich Razzleberry, Old Olive, Pale Plum
DSP: Lovely Flower (hostess set)
Embellishments: Rich Razzleberry Polka Dot ribbon
Sizes:
Card base: A2 – DSP 4 1/4"W x 5 1/2"H
DSP: 4 1/4"W x 5 1/2" H
Layer 1- Pale Plum: 3 5/8W x 5" H
Layer 2 – Rich Razzleberry: 3 1/2"W x 4 7/8"H
Layer 3 – Whisper White: 3 1/4"W x x 4 5/8"H
I stamped the flowers randomly, but tried to make sure that distributed color around fairly evenly. I stamped only one of the larger flowers. I thought adding more of the smaller flowers helped to take the focus off the larger flower.
I was REALLY tempted to put glitter on it… however, as this is one of the cards that will be shipped off to the troops, I refrained from doing that. However, if you want to create this card for someone special, adding Dazzling Diamonds would really make the card pop.
I like the fact that you can see the pale outlines of the flowers on the background DSP, but that it is very subtle.
I tied the Rich Razzleberry ribbon around the Whisper White layer and mounted that layer on to the matts with my stampin dimensionals.
Here's a sneak peek at tomorrow's card
Once again… it's not a pink card… it's a blue card…. two blue cards in one week. That has to be a record. It's for another color challenge. I'm really enjoying the color challenges as they really force me out of my comfort zone. Most times, I've really enjoyed playing with the colors. So, I encourage you to pop along to the sites and play along… or at least try the colors at home.
Don't forget – the new Summer mini is now live… you can download it from my sidebar – or pop along to the SU website and go check out all the wonderful new goodies. I LOVE the new hostess sets in this mini.
On June 1, as demos, we get to see a sneak peek of a very small selection of new goodies in the catalog in July. I cannot wait. I'm really looking forward to stocking up on the new colors. Which reminds me… I got to play around with one of the new colors this weekend. One that I wasn't that crazy about when I first saw it… .BUT.. I know love it. I used it with Old Olive – and am loving it… but that's for a card later this week.
If you haven't thought about becoming a demo, now is a really good time to think about it. Whether you want to be a business demo, or someone who just enjoys the discounts, everyone is important to SU. If you haven't talked to your demonstrator about this great opportunity, why not do so now? If you don't have a demonstrator and want more information, I'd be happy to send you details.
On a personal note… I thought I would introduce you to our old man cat. Merlin. We discovered Merlin as a tiny little 6 week old kitten outside a major office block in Singapore. There's a long and very funny story attached to us picking up Merlin – but that would need a cup of coffee or a glass of wine to tell 🙂 We moved Merlin from Singapore to California and then he came with us on our cross-country journey by car all the way to Minnesota. He has seen more of America than lots of people have. Although, he was very bored by the Grand Canyon, wasn't in the least bit impressed by Ol' Faithful and got way too much of an eyeful of a Bison in Yellowstone. The Bison came up to the car and looked in the back window. Merlin tried to disappear into the tiniest little ball that he could and pretend that he was a piece of stitching on the back seat! He went for a walk in the Badlands and chased a mouse in Utah.
He finally arrived in Minnesota and has never forgiven us since. Merlin is a warm blooded cat and likes REALLY warm weather and now that he's 16 and arthritic, he hates the cold even more. Anyway, here's our old man cat
You can see that the cushion on my stamping desk is a very popular place! The old man is in really good shape, except for his arthritis. He's the grumpiest old man, though…. but immensely loyal. Of all the cats, he misses us the most when we are away.
As Missy said on her comment, please give prayers to those in need right now. There are so many people around the world, and here in the US who have been displaced or are threatened by the weather or oil spills! Missy my thoughts and prayers are with you. I hope you, your family and friends are safe.
My continued thoughts and prayers to Trish and Germaine.
As always, thank you so much for spending a part of your day in my little area of the stamping blogosphere. Your visits are always appreciated – as is your support.
Hugs
Jaydee

I noticed that you left the stems off the flowers and I think that it really looks neat done this way. I actually love these colors together, and think that you have done a wonderful job with them. I like the way your knot turned out, mine always seem to look like I tied the card together so that it wouldn’t fall apart. lol. Your’s is so precise and neat looking, just perfect. I do love the background paper, very understated, but lovely. I love everything that you have shown us that was included with that kit. I really do wish that I could have earned one. I have started to make a bookmark of the Sketches and Color Challenges that you take part in, so that when I need inspiration I know where I can go to find it. Thanks for sharing those links.
Merlin looks so peaceful as he rests on the pillow. I just love the look in his eyes. I have always loved looking at a cat’s eye’s, it is as if they speak to you. Merlin’s are saying “give me some gentle lovin'”. I am sorry to hear that he has Arthritis, and do hope that it doesn’t bother too much. I do expect that when the weather changes, it does act up, as does mine and everyone else’s. Thanks for sharing his picture with us. He gave me a calm, sort of peaceful feeling, just like an old friend.
Missy I will Pray for you, your Family and everyone that you know that has been affected by the terrible things going on in the south. I watch it on the television and am just devastated. I can’t imagine what I would do in a situation like that. It is just heart wrenching to watch. Today I saw large Turtles that had died from the oil spill and it just broke my heart. All of those Fishermen! One of them was interviewed and he said that they could be out of work for 4 years! How does something like this happen and how is it allowed to happen? What is our world coming to? I was up all night Saturday night watching the N.Y. Times Square incident, another crazy scenario playing out in our Country. I pray with all my being that things will change for the better and soon.
May everyone be Blessed, stay Safe Wrapped in the Arms of Our Lord, Jesus Christ.
Thanks for sharing another fantastic Card with us, Jaydee. I don’t know how you manage to do it and work the long hours that you do. I can tell that you must really be dedicated to your Blog Readers. That really say’s something about your Character. Thank you for that.
Cyber hugs, Trish in Wisconsin
Love today’s card! The colors are fabulous! And as an aside, about 35 years ago, I also had a cat named Merlin! In fact I had two cats at the time…Merlin and Sara Tucker!
You had me looking for pearls on this card…I thought there is just no way it can be a Jaydee card without pearls or glitter! I love how you left off the stems and scattered the flowers. I’m in need of a bridal shower card this weekend for a garden themed shower–I’m thinking this is just the card to case.
Have a great day Jaydee-I’m hoping you get a chance to get outside and enjoy the BEAUTIFUL sunshine and temps.
Happy Day to one and all 🙂
Beautiful card! Love the colors you used. Aren’t you just going to hate to see some of these colors retire?
Lynn
Love those color. Will sure miss them. Wish SU offered this paper instead of as a hostess gift. My supply runs low so I hoard!
Your cat is beautiful. I had one that looked just like him and had the same personality. Off to enjoy the sunshine.
Love this Jaydee! Great color combo and layout. I really love the way you only showed some of the polka dots on the ribbon, very eye-catching! Thanks for sharing 😉
Beautiful card Jaydee! But all your cards are!
I truly appreciate all your prayers! We are doing ok but there are some who are not! Prayer can never hurt! So thank you!
Hope everyone has a blessed day!
