Happy Birthday -Flower Daisies Flock Together

HI Everyone.  Happy Saturday night and welcome to Jaydee's SU stampin' space.  Tonight's card uses my Flower Daisies # 2 Big Shot Die and the Flock Together DSP.  I promised you I was using "stuff" I hadn't used in a while!

Before we get started on tonight's card… a quick reminder about the Blog Candy for January.  You have two opportunities to earn blog candy and you can find the details in my post yesterday…. remember one of them is for a shot at a Big Shot!!!!  I really hope you will join me in my quest to collect cards for two great causes.  Thank you to those of you who have already let me know you are planning to join… I appreciate it – and I know the charities will!

I used the sketch challenge for mojomonday – challenge # 21 for tonight's sketch.  It was a tough sketch for me… I don't know… these round sketches often catch me short… which is the reason I do them… they really force me out of my comfort zone.

I needed a birthday card….. and I really wanted to use my Big Shot die and some of my DSP.  I really love the colors and patterns in the Flock Together paper, so decided that was a really good starting place.

Card Recipe:

  • Tempting Turquoise and Taken with Teal card stock
  • Flock Together DSP
  • Flower Daisies # 2 Big Shot die – the second card you have seen with this die this week!
  • Pretties kit – half pearls
  • My scallop punch
  • Grosgrain ribbon
  • "Hope your Birthday is as happy as happy gets" sentiment from the Kind and Caring Thoughts – Hostess Level 3 set

I just love this color combination, it's fresh and can be used throughout the year.  And I am loving – or should I say re-loving – the Daisies.  Once again I cut a number of the daisies with my die and layered them using both snail – and on the third tier – stampin' dimensionals.  Jaydee tip: You can see that I used 3 layers of the medium flower – in different colors.  I just layered them at a slightly different angle to give a layered feel, even though they are all the same size.  I then did the same with the smaller die – except this time I only did two layers.  But you can see that mixing up the layers and then adding the stampin dimensionals really gives much more interest to the die than just using the three layers on their own would have done.

I decided that I wanted to stamp the sentiment in the same color as the background card stock and not to place it on a white background, which is what I would normally have done.  Doing this allowed me to keep a central focal point and not compete with the flower.

I love the fact that the half pearls are echoed in the So Saffron paper… as well as in the background flower paper… so the dots carry all the way through the card.  It's the sort of detail that makes my little heart happy!  I know….. I know… I'm crazy!

Today, I got almost NO time in my stamping space.  grrrrrrr  the only thing I got the time to do was to make some Index cards for the splitcoaststampers site.  the SCS team give us so much, that I thought it was the least I could do!  So, no time for any creative stamping.  However, after I have done a couple of hours work that I need to do tomorrow, I'm coming back into my space and hopefully my mojo will be ticking so that I can create some new goodies…. I still need to make baby cards and Easter cards and birthday cards and… and… and….

The weather was a little warmer today – it got to 8 degrees above zero.  I swear I was ready to put my shorts on…. oh! wait!  I don't wear shorts… 🙂  but the sun really felt good!

As always… I really appreciate all of you stopping by… don't forget.. leave a comment to be entered into Blog draw #1…

Cyber hugs to you all

Jaydee

    Smiles,

  2. I love the daisies. I have seen them on other cards and never appreciated them. These are lovely. Glad to hear you are warming up. I really admire anyone who survives and thrives in “cold” weather. Enjoy the sunshine-our area will not see it until February!

  3. Great sketch. I have been eyeing on this die and everytime I see it, I just smile. How many layers (pieces) do you have there?

  4. Hi Cam… great question… here’s what I did.
the big layer – is 1 and that was taken with teal
the medium layer – i did three – 1 taken with teal and two with the so saffron paper from the flock together DSP
the small layer – two… one taken with teal and 1 so saffron
for the second layer – the medium layer, I layered so saffron, taken with teal and then so saffron again.
I glued the first and second layers – and then used my stampin dimensionals for the third layer. I like the D’s because they are quite thin – and perfect for this
hope this helps…. let me know if you have any other questions
    cyber hugs

  5. I love this color combination too…it’s endless. I’ve been trying to figure out what ink family to get and I’m having a hard time, but your posts help because you give such great detail…so thanks! Stay warm.
