Happy Sunday
It’s the fabulous Claire’s turn to host our Paper Players challenge this week and it’s Tic-Tac-Toe week! I had fun playing with a stencil called Abundant Beauty from the Stampin’ Up! mini catalog.
I love sunflowers. I’d never really seen one until I moved to the mid-west and always smile when I see fields of them with their heads turned to the sun. They are just such happy flowers!
I started by creating the sunflower and leaves from the stencils and fussy cut them using my scissors. I created the plain (technically houndstooth!) background from the same set of stencils and then mounted the sunflower and leaves with foam dots. I put the whole thing onto a woodgrain base and added some enamel dots and the sentiment. The card came together really easily. Of course, I just had to finish it with a few splatters!

On a personal note:
Well, it snowed today! So, I think that officially means summer is over! It’s also been raining on and off for the last few days. The windows in our apartment have been fogged in and it has been wonderful to watch the weather come and go. We really do love living so high up. Mind you, we really do miss the birds and the critters that visited us in our house! But, we feel good knowing that we left them with housing, natural food sources and places to overwinter. 🙂
Lou and I are both steadily improving. The cough has almost gone but I do still get tired doing the simplest of things. But, even that is getting better day by day. As for me, I am counting down the days to finishing work. My final day is noted in the HR system, my email signoff notes my last day of work and I am sleeping much better at night! I’m also prepping for my upcoming trip and looking forward to not only visiting new and exciting places, but also having time to practice my sketching, watercoloring and pencil coloring. That’s the great thing about crusing. Someone else cooks, cleans and changes the sheets. So I just get to relax and do fun things 🙂
The apartment is all decorated for fall and I will share some photos with my Paper Players post next week. We will redecorate for Christmas after Thanksgiving. Even though we won’t be here for Christmas, I’m still looking forward to seeing what the apartment looks like in Christmas colors!

Your card is fabulous! I think the houndstooth will work for plaid. LOL! I love sunflowers too! They make my heart happy. My Mom always great them on our farm. An absolutely gorgeous fall card, Jaydee! It has such a wonderful warmth about it. I always LOVE your stenciled backgrounds, and this one is so soft and subtle, allowing the sunflower to “pop”. I am glad you are feeling better. Hugs…
Okay, Jaydee! Your comment about this not maybe being a plaid sent me to do a bit of research and I came up with this from Wikipedia: “Contemporary houndstooth checks may have originated as a pattern in woven tweed cloth from the Scottish Lowlands,”. I’m seeing tweed, Scottish, etc. and translating that to “plaid” – so there! I really like your card, and it looks like Claire does as well!

I love these stencils Jaydee and agree with you – there’s something so happy about sunflowers, for sure! Whatever the definition of the pattern, there is just enough to draw the eye to that beautiful bloom so I’ll take it!! Beautiful – glad you’re feeling better too!
