Alex Syberia Bow Shoes for TGIF Challenge #580

Happy Monday.

I hope you all had a great weekend. It was a rainy day here yesterday so I got to play in my craft room and went looking for some challenges. I saw a great color challenge across at TGIF and couldn’t wait to play along. As the colors are so bold, I decided I wanted a single, bold focal point and spied the Bow Shoes from Alex Syberia sitting in my “to be used” crafting box. Perfect!

Here’s a sneak peek:

I think you might have guessed the colors by now 🙂

Here’s the badge from TGIF

Growing up my mother always used to say “blue and green should never be seen”. Mom, sorry, but I have to disagree. A dark navy with that bright, almost chartreuse green, is a gorgeous combo! Although the major colors are navy and apple, I used the smoky slate for the inside of the shoe.

When I was coloring the shoes, I laid down the initial color with the stencils, but then went to work with my Copics afterwards. When I was coloring the shoes I had an image of a soft suede shoe with a silk taffeta bow. The suede would have a brushed texture and the tafetta throw light as it folded and turned. The stencils alone didn’t give me the textural feel or light reflection that I wanted, so Copics were a necessity. 🙂 On a side not, I would SO HAVE BOUGHT these shoes had they been real.

Back in the 80s I had lots and lots and lots of shoes with bows on them and for sure these would have been in my wardrobe!

As this is a press plate, I foiled it with gold and then colored the image. I then had to fussy cut around the image as there was no matching die!

I love that the press plate comes with these small sentiments that can act as labels in the shoes! Clever! I betterpressed the sentiments and then had to decide on a card base.

Originally I had thought navy – but that didn’t work. Then I tried white and it just washed everything out. I then tried Smoky Slate but it dulled the colors. In the end I decided Granny Apple had to be the color for the base.

Here’s my full card:

Glorious colors together, even though Mom would not have approved:-). I know the talented team at TGIF would love it if you played along!

I’ll be back tomorrow with a clean and simple beach-themed card. In the meantime, warm hugs and prayers for those of you who need a little lift tonight.
