Baja Springtime in Paris

Hi Everyone.  Happy Monday night.  I hope you all had a fabulous weekend and have lots of great things planned for the upcoming weekend.  I know that our Canadian friends had a long weekend this past weekend and here in the US we are planning Memorial Day.

Tonight's card uses one of my favorite sets… which I just know is going to retire…. I just feel it's one of those that is going to retire.  BUT… I will not get rid of it….   I love it.   So, tonight's card celebrates Chic Boutique.  You can see my other Chic Boutique cards here.

The card was for the splitcoast stampers clean and simple challenge #66.  It was an inspiration challenge.  The card I was inspired by is this one.  BTW.. I love the idea of the piercing for the butterfly antenna on the inspiration card!

I decided it was time to try some new color combinations, so pulled out my Baja Breeze, Very Vanilla and Basic Black.

CAS66

You probably can't tell that it is Very Vanilla, but it is much softer than the Whisper White was.  The WW was too stark with the Baja Breeze and Basic Black, but the Very Vanilla is the color of Cornish Clotted Cream and works really well with the other two colors.

This is a very clean and simple card.  All I needed to do was cut the Very Vanilla into two sizes – 5 5/16W x 4 1/16"H and one at 3 3/16H x 1 13/16W for the matt.

The black matt is 2 7/8H x 1 7/8W.

The Baja Breeze matt is 2 3/4H x 1 3/4W.

I stamped the Eiffel Tower using Black Stazon onto Very Vanilla.  It's rare that I use the Basic Black classic ink.  Why?  Because the Stazon dries really quickly, so I don't smudge the image!

I then adhered the Eiffel Tower onto the Baja Breeze matt using dimensionals.

The horizontal layer is a piece of Basic Black 1 9/16W x 5 1/2 W.  I stamped the En Francaise background stamp onto a piece of Baja Breeze which is 5 1/2 W x 1 1/2H.

I really was going to put a piece of Black ribbon on the horizontal layer… but it looked very funereal when I did that.  I may have put a piece of Baja Breeze ribbon on… if I had any…. but I don't…. I'm hoping to have some next week though!   Cherie, I couldn't find anywhere that I could really put a pearl.  Can you believe that?

I put Very Vanilla card stock inside the card and stamped another Eiffel Tower using Versamark.

On a personal note… it is so nice to see some of you returning from vacations, sick leave, etc.  Trish you continue to be in our prayers.  Germaine, it was good to see that you were starting to feel a little more comfortable.  I do hope that they can find out the cause of the pain through this process of elimination.   Rach and Kelli, welcome back from your vacations.  Cam, welcome back!

OK…. guys… we need to do an intervention for Dee in N.H.   Why?  She doesn't like Kiwi Kiss.  Adelle/Cherie, I'm thinking we go over to N.H. to show her what she's missing 🙂

Well, it is day 3 of our vacation and we have done…. zero.  nada.  nyet.  nothing.  donut. zilch spring cleaning.  We have been running around like rabbits in springtime going from one shop to another to buy things to spring clean with….. of course, there is the occasional stop by the nursery (twice in two days), coffee shop breaks, etc. which really interferes with your ability to be home and spring cleaning.  Mind you, I guess sitting on the deck and just staring at the garden could account for the fact that nothing has gotten done!   Mind you, sitting on the deck and just staring at things has yielded a NEW BIRD SITTING IN JAYDEE's GARDEN… Yep…. a new species.  We were floored.  It took a little while to find him in our birding book, but we eventually did.  He sat around for 10 minutes whilst we oohed and aahed at him.  Unfortunately, I didn't get a great pic, but let me introduce you to him.

Flycatcher

He's a great crested flycatcher and he is really much prettier than his picture shows.  He brings our total to almost 50 birds in our little 1/2 acre garden.  Pretty amazing really.  We haven't seen him since, so we think he was just passing through and decided to see what the other birds were doing in the area!  One of the things we learned about him, was that he places a piece of sloughed off snake skin at the entrance of his nesting hole.  Enterprising birds have been known to use a piece of plastic if snake skin is hard to find.  Can you imagine that?  And they insult people by calling them bird brains… I don't know about you…. but I think that's pretty smart!

I did get to make a couple of cards yesterday, several of them memorial day themed.  I'll be doing another post early tomorrow with one of them, so remember to check back again in the morning.

Well, I can tell you that there has been another sighting….. this one almost as rare as the great crested flycatcher…… a sighting of the 2010/2011 Stampin' Up! Idea Book and Catalog!  Yes, ladies, there has been a sighting.  Unfortunately no details forthcoming from the sighting.  So, we shall just have to wait another week until we get our own little preview!

We are both hoping that it is cooler than the 95 degrees it was here today.  It was hot, humid and just plain draining.  Tomorrow it is supposed to be 10 degrees cooler.  Brenda/Cherie – I hope it's cooled down by your 1/2 marathon this weekend.  Way to go girls…. you are so inspiring!

As always, thank you so much for spending time in my little area of the stamping blogosphere.  Your visits, your support – and your comments are much appreciated by me and the other members of our little blog family!

Have a fabulous Tuesday everyone… filled with love, laughter and the things that make you happy.

Hugs

Jaydee

  1. What, not a single Pearl? Wait let me recompose myself for a minute, there all better now. Your color combo is great! I do like very vanilla and find it very under used. I love you using the En Francaise stamp in this card, it fits just perfectly. Really like the way you have it going sideways instead of the usual way so that we could read the words, I think this adds a lot of character to your card. It is also one of my favorite stamps and can you believe that I only now just acquired it second hand at 1/2 price. I have wanted it for so long. Your layout is very striking and makes for one that would easily make for mass production. I may just CASE this layout for my Card Drive Cards, if you don’t mind that is. No reason to feel you need to explain about not getting anything done on your Vacation, that is exactly what Vacations are for!!! It is fantastic that you have the resources to identify the different birds that come to visit. I enjoy hearing about them. This one is very interesting, and I did not know anything about the Snakeskin or the Plastic. Thank you also for the photo’s of them, they are really pretty and I love looking at them and showing DH when he gets home from work. It is hot, hot here too. I didn’t venture outside today, stayed in just me and the air conditioning. hee, hee. I sure do hope it cools down for the 1/2 Marathon for you Gals. I couldn’t imagine running in this heat, you would be falling like flies. I wish you both the best of luck. Germaine, I Pray for you everyday, life must be so hard right now for you. I hope that everyone enjoyed Great Vacations.
A question for you Jaydee, are we allowed to make 4th of July cards for the Card Drive?
Blessings to everyone. I hope you and Lou continue to have a fantastic time together on Holiday.
Cyber hugs to all, Trish in Wisconsin

  2. That Trish is such a sweet lady…I just had to say that. I love the card and I love you used Vanilla. I like it better at times than WW too…it’s softer. I love this color combo and the stamp…hopefully it will stay around for you. Enjoy your vacation. I think by doing nothing you’re doing just what you’re supposed to do!

  3. I had to scroll back up to the header to ensure that I was on Jaydee’s blog…no pearl? Didn’t need one my dear, it’s a stunning card. Like Trish, I like the words turned sideways on the horizontal piece. It really does add interest. The insperation card is amazing as well. I hope someday I can create such beautiful work.
So glad to read that you two are enjoying your vacation. There are still many more weeks of spring, the cleaning can wait, shopping sounds like so much more fun anyway! :0)
Have a great day One & All

  4. I too agree–the WW would have been too harsh with that color combo. The VV is much softer. It’s a very elegant card. :o)
What a FUN bird! A snake skin, huh? Bird brains indeed. :oP

  5. Hi Jaydee! I love this pretty card! I have been eyeing up this set but alas it may not make the journey into the new cattie as you say! I am so excited about the new cattie! Can’t wait to see it all! Love the colours you chose! Thanks for sharing the photo of the bird…amazing!
    Smiles,
    Lesley 😉

  6. Love your card—-I just took this set OFF my order (waiting to see if it makes it in the catty) but I still WANT it! Fun! Love the bird too! So excited that we have BIRDS in common as well as stamping! I am an avid birder too, and I know I have not seen this bird in my area (PA). I did see my first Baltimore oriole of the season last week—that is exciting for me, as they are difficult to spot. I usually hear them first!

  7. Very pretty card! I do think you all need to come to NH for an intervention! Sounds like a great vacation going on at your house. Enjoy!!

  8. Not sure what happened to my comment yesterday. I posted one early in the morning, but when I checked back it had disappeared!
I think I came up with a place for a pearl on this card–to dot the i in merci!
I love the color combo on this card and also the layout. YOu always have such nice cards Jaydee!

  9. I love all of the white space on your card…very classy! Of course, the science teacher in me loved seeing the picture of the great crested flycatcher! Awesome!

  10. Pretty card! I love the colors including the white space! I tend to keep adding too much all the time! This makes me realize you can have white on cards!
