Hi Everyone. Happy Monday night. I hope you all had a great weekend.
I have a card and a video for you tonight.
I saw the combined challenge across at the Play Date Cafe and Casestudy challenge. Casestudy has an inspiration challenge and Play Date has a color challenge. The colors? Red, Green and Black! Mmm. not colors that I put together often, hence the reason for me doing this combined challenge :-) I still love the name "play date cafe"! Y'all know that you should go check out the challenge sites. Once again wonderful inspiration cards from the design team- and some amazing submission cards, too!
In keeping with my new year resolution to use tools/stamps that I don't generally use and do challenges that… well challenge me…. I chose to highlight the 2-step bird punch. I have never used this punch before and it really is a pity!
I went with the theme of black, red and green. I chose Cherry Cobbler for my red and Old Olive for the green.
I also used a punch that I haven't used before. The Dotted Scallop Ribbon Border punch is a punch that I bought when it first came out and, yep, it has sat there in my drawer all lonely!
I decided that the image and the frame worked really well with the new So Happy For You stamp set. I love the font from this set! I especially love the fact that I got it for free as part of Sale-A-Bration!
To carry the black of the base card to the front of the card, I added a black wing to the bird. You all know that I like repetitions of shapes/items… so the circle of the pearls fits with the circles in the dotted border punch frame, which in turn fits with the circles on the background DSP! You will also notice that I added a little pearl for the eye of the bird.
I made a quick video for you showing how to create this wonderful little frame. All you have to do is click on the image below and it will take you to the video.
Card recipe – all ingredients Stampin' Up! unless otherwise noted:
- Card stock: Cherry Cobbler, Basic Black, Whisper White, Old Olive
- DSP: Regals Patterns Pack (117154)
- Stamp: So Happy for You (121853 wood, 123220 clear)
- Tools: Dotted Scallop Ribbon Border Punch (119275), 2-step Bird Punch (117191), Stampin Dimensionals
- Accessories: Cherry Cobbler Seam Binding Ribbon (120992)
I popped the frame on Stampin' Dimensionals. I glued the leaves onto the base and then popped the bird up on dimensionals to give a little depth. The wing was adhered at an upward angle using snail.
I was really happy with the card. What do you all think? I love this frame and know that it will be make a few more appearances on my cards!
I hope you all have a fabulous Tuesday – one filled with love, laughter and time spent doing the things you love, with those you love. Me… errr…. conference calls most of the day! Looking out of my office window at the wonderful, fresh, new layer of snow courtesy of the storm this weekend!
Prayers for those of you who need a little lift tonight.
Hugs
Jaydee

Oo, I love the color combination, the little bird, the pearls, the DSP, the frame. It all comes together so beautifully. :o) Oh, and the sentiment? That is one of the best SAB items I’ve received in a long while. I love it!
Conference calls? Oh dear. Snow? I’m jealous. Yes, yes I am. Even though I’ve been reveling in the wonderful spring-like temps here, I would love to have snow. :o)
Hoping all is well with you.
Hugs to all!

Great colour combinations, i struggle with red as it’s not one of my favourite colours… Loving the little bird size and shape. Frame is great too:-)
Lovely card Jaydee, yes really like the color combo. Rach, you can have all the *free* snow you want, please bring semi-trailer to haul. 🙂

Oh my goodness – this just has to be one of my favorites. I think I need to CASE it. I’ve had that punch for so long and, I’m ashamed to say, never used it. Gorgeous card.
This card is great. I love the frame idea-how clever! Never would have thought about that. Another wonderful card.
Enjoy your snow. I’m off to play in the sunshine. Thank goodness Spring is starting.

Jaydee, this frame technique is SO cool! Before I watched the video I was trying to figure out how you made the squares in the corners. I really like the way it came out and the beautiful bird just fits perfectly. My husband was watching the video over my shoulder and his exact words were “Wow, that is a great technique. I hope you are following this blog.” 🙂 I sure am! Thank you for sharing this one!
Have a happy day!

Ever so pretty, Jaydee! LOVE that bright white frame and the way it highlights your sweet, little bird so brilliantly! Thank you so much for playing along with us, this week, in The Cafe!
I like everything about this card. The color, the bird and leaves, the treatment of the pearls. Last but not least, the dotted scallop border technique – love it. I was wondering how you did that yesterday and I did not have time to watch it until today. I have to try one myself. Thanks so much.
LOVE that you focused on the red with just a hint of green/black! FUN! Great card–Thanks so much for playing along with us over at the PDCC:}
