Build a Rose – Hugs Paper Players #384 and AECP

Hi Everyone

Happy Sunday.

I am late with my card this week as I only got it finished after dark last night and there was no decent light to take a photo.  This morning is overcast and dull, so the light isn't that great either, but at least there was enough light to take photos 🙂

It's the fabulous Joanne's turn to host our Paper Players challenge this week and she has a color theme for us:

Generally, I would run a mile from a challenge that has pink as the focus.  However recently, I seem to have been sharing quite a few pink cards, so I was eager to embrace this challenge.  Oh… and let's not forget Nance's amazing badge – I just don't know how she does it!

I also needed a card for the last of my Level 1 AECP challenges.  I had to take three elements from the lessons in the Level 1 classes and I had to either create a birthday, graduation or encouragement card.  I decided to go with the latter.

  • I chose 1 element from the Let It Shine class – glitter.  I took glitter paper, die-cut two leaves and colored the glitter with a pale pink Tombow Marker
  • The second element was from the Easy Die-Cutting – using a stamp and matching die
  • The third element was from the Irresistible Inking – simple layered stamping
  • I did add a fourth element – one that I have been using a lot since I took the class.   From Clean and Simple Boutique cards – I created my own envelope

I began by stamping the layers for my Build a Rose – easily my most favorite Altenew stamp of all time!  I used 5 different colors to get the layers that I needed and cutting it out with the matching die was a breeze.   I then die-cut the open leaves from the Build a Wreath dies.  I love the delicate leaves and the soft pink glimmer they add to the card.    I stamped the leaves with grey ink – it's a greenish grey, so they provide a really subtle backdrop to the rose.

Here's a closeup of the glitter leaves

I needed to anchor the flower – so I used a harlequin stencil and blended some of the pale pink ink onto the Neenah Solar White card base.  I also stamped the sentiment in the darkest of the pinks. Those of you who have been following my blog for a while may know that HUGS – either sending them – or giving them – is one of the biggest forms of encouragement I can give.  Somehow a good hug and a cup of strong tea can make the world seem a little better! 🙂

I adhered the leaves to the base of the card and popped up the rose on low-rise foam dots.   Here's my pretty pink confection

I then added another uplifting sentiment in the inside of the card and carried the rose theme through with a smaller rose from the Vintage Rose stamp set and colored it with the same pinks as I used on the outside.

You can see the hand-made envelope underneath the card.  I used some old Stampin' Up! heart vellum to make the envelope and added a piece of Neenah Solar White to cover the front of the card on the inside.   I then tied some silver cord around it and tied it into a pretty bow.   Here's the envelope:

I've made more envelopes since I did the Clean and Simple Boutique card class a couple of weeks ago than I have in the whole 2 years I've had the envelope maker 🙂

I hope you will play along with us this week and, if you are looking for some inspiration, you have to look no further than our amazing design team cards:

On a personal note:

This has been a busy week and we had VIP guests at home with us, so I didn't get to spend any time in my craft room other than to make "will you be my bridesmaid" cards.  Not for me, of course, but for our VIP guest 🙂

Before I go play in my craft room – here's  a couple of snow photos for you.  Im sharing them now, as we are supposed to get up into the high 40s by the end of the week!!!!

The female pheasants are incredibly skittish and with good reason.  They really do stand out against the snow.  I love how they use the well-trodden nature paths to walk to the feeder.  I doubt that I will ever get a photo of them other than through the windows.  If they are around and they hear me open the door, they take off back into the middle of the wetland where they hide in the grasses/shrubs

Hopefully I will get to make some cards today and, if I do, then I will be back during the week with some cards – and some photos.  In the meantime, warm hugs and prayers for those of you who need a little lift tonight.

Hugs

Jaydee
