Hi everyone. Happy Saturday. Hope you are all having a great week.
It's the first of the 2014 challenges at Addicted to CAS this week and the fabulous Loll has a great code word for us.
Now…. there were so many great places to go with this code word. :-) I know that it is past Christmas, but it is never too early to begin planning for the next Christmas, right :-) The design team have created a wonderful set of cards for your inspiration. Pop along to Addicted to CAS and check out the cards – and play along with us.
I started by die cutting a cardinal from Real Red card stock and cut a template from the Memory Box branch die. I needed the negative space to create a branch on the Smoky Slate base by using Ranger Embossing Paste. I love the effect that it gives. It takes a little while to dry, but it's really worth it. Once I had added the embossing paste, I sprinkled it with some Ranger distress glitter to give a little shimmer and shine.
Once the embossing paste was dry, I stamped the sentiment using Versamark and used some silver embossing powder. I then popped the Cardinal onto the branch using Stampin' Dimensionals. To finish the card, I added a little "eye" to the Cardinal using a black marker and mounted the Smoky Slate layer to a piece of white heavyweight card stock.
Once I completed th card, I realized that I could create the same card by adding a Soft Sky background instead of the Smoky Slate and use the branch with a darker embossing paste and a die cut flower, or spring bird, to make a spring card. For Autumn/Fall, I could use the same branch but with die cut leaves.
I do hope you will join us and check out the fabulous inspirations from the design team. Welcome also to Nancy Littrell, who is guest designer for January. The winner will receive 3 digis from Deedeedigis, now that is a great incentive to play along!
I'll be back again tomorrow with my Paper Players card. In the meantime, warm hugs and prayers to those who need a little lift today.
Hugs
Jaydee

I love this Jaydee, the pop of red is stunning and against the background it really is fab x
I was going to write exactly what Sandy wrote–that pop of red IS stunning! I LOVE the simplicity of this card, as it allows the cardinal and branch to shine.
I hope you’re staying warm. It didn’t get above 30 here yesterday, and for this area, that’s saying something. Br.
Hugs!
P.S. Hi Lou! :o)
Really pretty card Jaydee. Love the pop of red. The embossing paste also intrigues me. I’d like to give that product a try.
Hi Jaydee. Am loving the embossing paste branch. I have some in my drawer and haven’t used it for ages (hopefully it has dried up!) 🙂 You have inspired me to pull it out and play – thank you!! I love all your wonderful ideas for using the same layout and design (and embossed branch) — so many wonderful possibilities! Loll xx
So sweet Jaydee and love your suggestions for different seasons using the same branch die. TFS and always inspiring.
P.S. I am thrilled to be your GD this month. What an honor!
This is gorgeous – CAS perfection! I never thought to use the negative space from a die cut with embossing paste – brilliant!
Your die cuts are just perfect. Your red cardinal is eye catching. LOVE it. Happy New Year, my friend xx
Awesome card – love the embossing paste branch! I agree – this would be a great card for different seasons!
Hi Jaydee!!
I am writing my message for a second time . . . it was not posted . . . “Happy New Your . . happy every second of yours and Lou’s lives.
So CAS and soooooo pretty! Thank you. Once again, I would like to buy some sentiments like yours . . . they are large and beautiful — in form and content. Are all of them digital? I would prerfer them in French but in English would be OK.
Thought our Winter would be mild but apparently a cold wave is arriving soon . . . brrrrrrrrrrr!
Warm hugs!!
Marina . . . from far Africa
Love you CAS design card and I so agree; the possibilities are endless with this type of design. A cardinal on a card always makes for a nice Christmas card but then I like cardinals.
See, you already got one Christmas card made up for 2014. I have about a doz. more to make and then my cards for 2014 Christmas cards will be done and out of the way. :}
Stay warm up your way and enjoy the remainder of the weekend.

Your tree branch is spectacular on the gray card with the red cardinal. I used the paste years ago and could never get the hang of it. You have mastered it perfectly.
A beautiful CAS design Jaydee. The red really “pops” from the soft background colour – LOVE it!
