Cherry Blossoms – Central Park style

Hi everyone.  Happy Monday night!

What a great weekend – I'm still reveling in the glow….. even though I spent 11 hours at my desk today.. oh… and I was on a half day vacation!  However, nothing can put me in a bad mood! :-)  You guys rock and thank you to those of you who left comments for Audrie and her fabulous cards from last night.

I decided to combine two challenges for the card tonight.  I'm really into the CAS mode – something about spring cleaning maybe… Oh… mmmmm… maybe we shouldn't talk about spring cleaning – I REALLY need to do that!  Why can't the fairies come in and do it for me… or I could twinkle my nose and have it done!  Oh well… that ain't gonna happen!

So….. tonight's card features a new set I got in a set swap.  Eastern Blooms.  CAM – this is all your fault.  I saw the cards you made with Eastern Blooms and decided that I needed this set, so I traded a couple of sets I don't use for this and Pick a Petal.

Splitcoaststampers had an inspiration challenge – New York… oh boy.. Cas60closeup now that's an inspiration and cleanandsimplestamping had a sketch challenge.  So, I decided to combine them both.

Here's the picture I used from central park for my inspiration – cherry blossoms near the Jackie Kennedy reservoir.

Here's the sketch challenge from cleanandsimple – fall to layout 82 and here's a little look at what I came up with.

Cas60

Card recipe:

  • card stock:  Ruby Red and Whisper White
  • inks:  Ruby Red, So Saffron, Mellow Moss – markers
  • sentiment: Ruby Red
  • stamp sets:  Eastern Blooms and FYI for the sentiment – "you are awesome"
  • ribbon:  red riding hood red
  • big shot:  texturz plate – small polka dots.  I used my sanding block to take the top off the dots to make them stand out a little more.  this helps echo the "dots" in the middle of the flowers
  • I used my scallop border punch and my corner rounder, to keep the round theme going
  • half pearls for the middle of the flowers
  • I raised the front panel using stampin dimensionals.

I hope you like tonight's card – it was out of my comfort zone, but managed to provide the feminine feel that I wanted and yet still reflected the cherry blossoms in NY's Central Park.  NOW…. If only I had cut the two tails on the ribbons even lengths.. how come you only notice that when you take the photograph!!!! 🙂

Unfortunately, I didn't get to spend any time in my stamping studio today…. but I'm hoping I will get there this week sometime!

Have a fabulous day and, as always, thank you so much for spending time in my little area of the stamping blogosphere.  Your visits and your support is always appreciated.

Hugs

Jaydee

  2. What a beautiful and feminine card! I love the embellishments and the polka dot texture (I love polka dots). I hope you have a wonderful day.

  3. Your card for today is beautiful–very dainty and feminine. I like the color combination of the red and yellow. Your bow looks great to me-mine never turn out straight!
Thanks for taking the time to share it with us.

  4. Hi Jaydee, beautiful Card today. I just love red with wisper white and anything else. It always looks so fresh and crisp. Those dainty little flowers are just too darling for words. I really like the added pearls in the middles. Your bow turned out great, mine never look quite like that, mine look more like a knot, so usually I will tie a real bow. Great job all around. May you always be Blessed.

  5. I loved the card especially the half pearls. Where are you getting them from? Your colors are clean and crisp. I too wish I could call the house fairy. Now that I’m retired there is no time for house work. Go figure!

  6. Hi, I recognize that card somewhere 🙂 Yes, I take full responsibility to “make” you have to have that stamp set. Don’t you love that set? I know, I do too. It’s very addictive. Oh my, a few days without visiting your blogs and it looks as if I missed a whole month. Yike!!!! Hope your birthday was what you planned and looks like you did. You know how that is, work just gets in the way of everyday stamping 🙂 Hugs
