Evergreen for Casethissketch

Hi Everyone.  Happy Sunday.

It snowed today.   Huge… actually humungous snowflakes drifting down from the skies in the middle of rain drops!  It was pretty surreal as the rain was coming down quite heavily and yet, in the midst of the rain were some snowflakes gently falling.  It was like being in the middle of some Frederico Fellini movie!  It was fabulous!  That prompted me to make a trip to my stamping studio and make a couple of Christmas cards:-)

I needed a little inspiration and popped along to casethissketch

I couldn't make a circular element work, so decided to do a rectangular frame instead.  I had this image of a Christmas tree in a frame and went rifling through my stamps.  Evergreen caught my eye and I decided that it would look fabulous stamped in some metallic ink, surrounded by the silver metallic card stock.
I stamped the tree in silver and let it thoroughly dry.  I stamped over the tree using StazOn – the only ink that will work with this – and then adhered it to a metallic silver base.   I cut a rectangle out of another piece of silver metallic and popped that over the tree using dimensionals.
Now…. I needed to get a sentiment across the middle and realized that I could do that with some vellum and a simonsaysstamp die that I had.  I stamped the sentiment, adhered it to the card and added a couple of basic rhinestones for a little bit of extra bling.  Here's my card:

I must admit, I was quite pleased with the way it turned out.  It really did end up looking like the vision I had in my head, which is pretty unusual 🙂

On a personal note:
I know I wasn't ready for winter, but I do love this time of year.  I finished hemming the curtains that will hang in the dinette last night and will be putting those, and the ones that go in the family room, up this coming weekend.  It's time to put the cool colored sage green drapes and pillows away and bring out the rich henna drapes and matching pillows.  The mantle piece has been draped with a fall swag and rich gold candles.  The summer tablecloth and placemats will be put into storage and replaced by the rich golds, reds and browns of fall.
I might be getting the house ready, but the garden is not yet ready to give up her blooms.   Once the rain finally stopped, I went out and took a couple of photos.
The redbellied woodpecker made himself known!

The susans are still holding on.   I can't wait to see how they look next year.  They certainly put on a fabulous – and long – show for us this year.   The goldfinches love the seeds.

I caught a shot of the goldfinch (in his winter colors), the dove and the downy woodpecker at the feeder.

As I type my blogpost I can see the Pileated Woodpecker at the feeder.  I never get tired of seeing them – or hearing them.  There is something amazingly prehistoric about them and I am so pleased that they call our yard home.  You can see from the photos that it was another dull, grey day.  It really has been reminding me of England this last week.
Colleen, I can't believe you went from summer to winter overnight!  Rach – our goldfinches have also lost their bright yellow colors, but their sound still reminds me of summer!   LeAnne:  so glad the birds are slowly coming to your feeder.  It does take a while and you need to be consistent, but they will certainly appreciate the food – and any moisture – you can give them over winter.
As always, thank you for your visit – and your comments.  I'll be back on Tuesday with another card.  In the meantime, warm hugs and prayers for those of you who need a little lift tonight.
Hugs
Jaydee

  2. Beautiful Jaydee! I love your rectangle frame that just draws your eyes into see the pretty tree. Very peaceful.
Snow already huh! Oh, I do think it is too early for that but I guess we are almost at the end of the month. I’m just not ready. So many projects outside to finish yet and still need to go harvest my corn stalks we grew from the community garden. Since it’s not Halloween or Thanksgiving, I’m good right? lol. I like hearing how you change out your draperies and pillows. No chance for boredom that way!
    Wishing some sunshine your way~

  3. You very well should be pleased with your card; It’s Gorgeous.
Now you just keep that snow up your way. I’m not ready for any snow just yet. We don’t get much snow down this way but we do on occasion get a white covering.
Still waking up to temperatures in the 40’s but must say; turned out to be a beautiful day yesterday.
Enjoy your day and have a wonderful week
