Fabulous Florets – Sneak Peek and hunting for green

Hi Everyone.  Happy Tuesday night. Hope you are all having a great day!

Tonight's card is another sneak peek.  I fell in love with this set the minute I saw it in the mini catty.  Did I need ANOTHER floral set… NO!  but… did I WANT this one? Yes!  I love it.  You will see it appear a couple of times in the next week.  I also decided to continue with the Poppy Parade color.  Not one I use very much.  In fact, I think I have used it more this week than I have since it was introduced.  It's such a gorgeous, bright, summery color.  Of course, it fits the focal image perfectly, too!

I saw a classic sketch across at Stamping411 and decided that I really wanted to play along this week.  I did turn the sketch and make it vertical to fit the focal image.  I also played, again, with the layering the same color on itself.  I really do love this effect. However, in this light, you do loose the scallop border under the ribbon.  Don't forget to pop along to stamping411 – they always have great challenges and offer up technique tutorials for all levels of stamper.

Here's my take on the sketch:

Huntingforgreen5 (1)

Card recipe:

  • Card stock:  Poppy Parade, Whisper White, Pear Pizzazz
  • Stamps:  Fabulous Florets (focal image); On the Grow (sentiment)
  • Inks:  Poppy Parade, Pear Pizzazz, So Saffron (used to provide shading on the focal point Whisper White layer); Versamark – I stamped the foliage image just peeking behind the upper left side of the focal image on the Poppy Parade
  • Accessories:  Black Pearl (non SU), Poppy Parade In-Color Ribbon
  • Tools:  Stamp-a-ma-jig; Stampin' dimensionals; Scallop border punch

So, what do you think of the image?  I really love it! I stamped the vertical foliage image down first, then stamped the flower onto scrap card stock twice.  I did this so that I could layer the flower to give it a little more depth.  I think the black pearl adds the finishing touch to the poppy.  Once again, I reached for the "thinking of you" sentiment from the new On the Grow set.  It's the perfect size to stamp onto the focal layer like this.

On a personal note:

A glorious day here today.  Glorious.  I was so jealous of Rach's photos HERE  …. if anyone loves gardens and flowers, you have to check out the link.  Then… when you have done that.. you can come back here and see my version.  So, lets go hunting for green…..

Anything here…. Any signs of the Peony? Huntingforgreen1   You can blow up the pic… see any green… anything?  nah!  me either!

Huntingforgreen2 …So… lets go look for any green on the lilac bush.

See any green on this bush?  anywhere?  errr… no….. me either….

so.

let's go search a little

more around the garden…

……………. let's see:

anything hiding in my secret grotto garden?  Huntingforgreen3 well… the grass is starting to get some green patches… but how about amongst the brown mulch… anything… yes.. a little glimmer of green…. ooops.. on closer inspection, it's a weed.  That doesn't count!

So…. how about here…. in one of the boxes we planted?

Huntingforgreen4 YES!!!! Jackpot.  Tulips… but.. what's this…. mmmmm… let's take a closer look (don't forget to blow up the photo)…. why do they look stunted!  Aren't they supposed to have little tulip heads on them…. yep…. but they have been eaten by the deer.  OK.  So we might have a little green – but we will never have color on those them dar stems!  Oh, dear.  Not doing well, are we?  Especially after the glory of Rach's photos.  So, one last look.

Huntingforgreen5

BINGO!!!!!!!  Green… and even color… white is a color, right?  Crocuses.  Aren't they glorious?  I think so.  I think they are a wonderful sight.  Oh, yeah!  and obviously the deer don't like them!

So, there you have it.  The sum total of "green stuff" in our garden right now!  But, I love my croci and I would have loved my tulips, too!

Margaret…. I loved reading your story of riding the back of the vespa to go to the soft serve store in Nairobi.  Having lived in Africa, I can imagine how glorious that would have been.  It was a wonderful image, so thank you for sharing.  I am pleased that my card last night brought back that memory for you.

Warm hugs and prayers to those of you who need a little lift tonight.

I hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday, or, as Cherie would say, happy hump day!

hugs

Jaydee

  1. I absolutely love this sketch. What a vibrant color. Clean and simple with a touch of the black pearl to finish it off. This is a definite CAS for me. Thanks so much for the inspiration.

  2. Oh this is just so pretty! I love the new stamp! I saw Rach’s flower photos too! Wow! I was wondering what kind of a camera she uses. Her photos are so clear.

  3. 😀 Thanks for another big smile Jaydee! Stopping by your blog is always a highlight of my day. Even if I don’t have the time to comment please know that I appreciate the time that you give up for us readers.<3 The green hunt could have taken place in my garden my only green (other than the grass) are my irises and day lillies. I'm looking forward to planting my very first vegetable garden in the next few weeks.
Warm thoughts and hugs to all those in need, and as Jaydee said--Happy Hump Day to One & All!

  4. Although I haven’t used it much, Poppy Parade is one of my favorite of the In Colors this year. I love how you have showcased it so beautifully here. :o)
You had me laughing with your green hunt! Brien took those photos for me since I was out of town–he’s a real sweetie–and the first thing I did when we got home was unload the girlies and take a tour of my gardens. The pollen is something fierce right now, but oh, the beauty of my gardens. :happy sigh:
Your green is coming, hang in there! :o)
Beth, Brien and I both use Nikon DSLR cameras–his is a nicer version than mine, but both take beautifully crisp photos.

  5. Jaydee, this is just STUNNING!!! How beautiful! I’ll have to get this set for sure. My best friends yard is full of poppies right now and they look just like your image! Gorgeous. Oh, and don’t worry..Spring will be there before you know it!

  7. I was undecided about whether to get this set since I, too, have so many floral stampe. This is so pretty, that I don’t know if I can resist it! Beautifully done! If I get this set, I will definitely be CASEing this card. Thanks for sharing your talent.

  8. This is really stunning, Jaydee!! Your search for green cracked me up…good thing you have such lovely colors to work with in your stamp room. Added bonus…the deer can’t eat them! Congratulations on being an Operator’s Pick…well deserved!
