Flip Flops for Paper Players # 306

Hi Everyone.

Happy Sunday.  It's the fabulous Laurie's turn to host our Paper Players challenge this week and she has a Tic-Tac-Toe for us.

Once I had made my mind up to go left and vertical: beach, texture and enamel dots, I needed  sketch.  So I went to casethissketch and saw this great sketch:

Once I knew I was going with a beach theme, I pulled out an old Simon Says Stamp card kit stamp set and decided to have fun with some DSP and flip-flops.

The texture part of the card came from some woodgrain card stock that I got from Simon Says Stamp.  I love this card stock and had never thought to use it with anything other than masculine or autumn stamps – don't ask me why… I mean… it's not as though woodgrain can't be used for other things, right?

I stamped the flip-flops on x-press it card stock and colored them with Copic markers and fussy cut them.  I die-cut a piece of old wave-style DSP and stamped part of the sentiment from the set: hello, which I colored with Copic markers and then added some shimmer and shine:-)  I then stamped the "life is better in flip-flops" onto the card base.   Thank goodness for my MISTI tool.  The card stock is so textured that it took me several goes to get a clean image and I could not have done it without my MISTI.  Once everything was ready, I assembled the card and adhered the flip flops to the panel and added the final element for the tic-tac-toe…. black enamel dots.   I created those with some Pico embellishment Irresistibles.

Here's my card:

the problem with shimmer and shine, is that it really makes the flip-flops look uneven, but I promise they are.   But… the shimmer and shine on the HELLO sentiment – and the flip-flops looks really cool in real life.  Take a look and see what I mean 🙂

I hope you will join us for our challenge this week.  If you are looking for some inspiration, you have to look no further than our design team cards:

On a personal note:

Well, our Wild Bergamot (aka Bee Balm) is proving to be VERY popular in our garden.  I cannot tell you the amount – and variety – of bees that it has attracted.  It is swarming with busy little bees going about their business.  There are also numbers bugs, beetles and other insects on it.  In addition, a plethora of butterflies – and this makes my little heart very happy.

We RARELY see Monarchs, and I was thrilled to see two of them on the bee balm this week.   It was only when I processed the photos of this guy that I realized he was missing the outermost part of his left wing.   But… what a photo.

Monarch (1 of 1)-2

I captured multiple shots of this guy and spent at least 20 minutes standing on the deck just watching the two of them flitting backwards and forwards.   Awesome things they are!

One of my favorite coneflowers is the prairie coneflower.  They aren't as showy or as profuse as other coneflowers, but they have a fragility – and strength – about them that I find fascinating.  They grow much taller than the other coneflowers and move with the breeze.  I captured a shot of them this week:

Aren't they gorgeous?  I think so 🙂

I'll be back tomorrow with another card.  In the meantime, warm hugs and prayers for those of you who need a little lift tonight.

hugs

  1. Great beachy card, Jaydee. I have this kit also and have done very little with it so I thank you for the inspiration. Who makes that textured woodgrain paper? I love it.

  2. What a wonderful card….love this sketch! It’s simple but has enough elements to keep your interest, especially with the embossing and the SHINE!

  3. I love your beach theme. Nothing says summer to me quite like flip flops and when they sparkle it’s even better! Thanks for playing along with us at CAS(E) This Sketch!

  4. As someone who loves to spend the summer months in flip flops, I would echo the sentiment of your card 100% this week Jaydee! Love the light woodgrain background and wavy paper too.
