Gifts of Christmas – Christmas Wishes

Hi Everyone.  Happy Sunday night and welcome to Jaydee's SU stampin space, where your visits – and your comments 🙂 – are always appreciated.

Tonight's card uses my brand new set – Gifts of Christmas and uses a group of colors I would never normally put together – Basic Grey, Ruby Red and Taken with Teal.  This is the color challenge from the palspaperarts team – and what a challenge it was.    Well, you all know that the reason I do the challenges – is for the challenge – and color challenges can be exceptionally challenging!  (How many times I can I insert "challenge" into a paragraph? :-)  I decided to use two of my other new things that my wonderful UPS man delivered for me this week – rhinestone brads and metallic brushed silver card stock.

Card recipe:

• Well you know the card stock colors 🙂 Ruby Red, Taken with Teal, Basic Grey and I exchanged the Basic Grey layer for the card background with brushed silver metallic
• I inked up my Gifts of Christmas stamp with Basic Grey, Taken with Teal and Ruby Red markers
• I ran the brushed silver paper through my Big Shot and used my Stampin Up Backgrounds 1 texturz plates.  I've used this particular plate on many of the Christmas cards because the flower reminds me of a poinsettia.
• I mounted the matts and wrapped a piece of Basic Grey satin ribbon around the brushed silver and finished the card with 4 rhinestone brads.
• I added one more touch – I added a drop of Crystal Effects to the poinsettia, and the dove's eye
• 

Jaydee tip:    As much as I love the rhinestone brads, I didn't want the brad surround to detract from the central image.  So… I removed the brad from it's backing and mounted them individually with a mini glue dot.  Here's a quick pic on how to remove the rhinestones from their mounting….. JUST BE CAREFUL when you do this, especially if you use a paper piercer like I do.  It's much better to use a flat implement instead of a sharp pointed implement!!!

I opened the brad and then gently prised open one side of the housing, by pulling back the tab.  I folded the tab all the way back.  Turn over the rhinestone and gently push the rhinestone out of it's housing.

I'm guessing that the spots on my matt – I always work on a matt – are a giveaway about tomorrow's card!  lot's of little silver spots!  No prizes for guessing what! 🙂

Here's a close-up of the card details.  Here you can see the texturz plate and how it matches the poinsettia and how fabulous the brushed silver card stock is.  HOWEVER, if you don't have the card stock and want to try to get the same effect… check back tomorrow to see how I did another card today!  How's that for shameless advertising 🙂

So, even though I was a little challenged by the colors initially, I actually loved the way the final product turned out.  Which goes to show, once again, that doing the challenges are a good thing!

I hope you all had a fabulous Sunday.  I had a relaxing day – housework this morning and then some playtime.  I told myself that I would not – in fact – could not! play with my new goodies until I had done some housework.   The weather was glorious.  It was actually in the 60s.  It's been interesting watching the birds ready themselves for winter and trying to find roosting spots.  The great thing about winter is that the Junco's are back.  I love these little birds and we look out for them every winter.  We've also managed to hear the owls the last few mights.  It's much easier to hear them when the leaves are off the trees.  So, although I miss my little hummingbirds and their antics, I look forward to the arrival of the winter birds.
