Happy Thanksgiving – Branch Out

Hi Everyone. Happy Monday and welcome to jaydee's SU stamping place!
Today's card is a departure from my Dasher and Chic Boutique cards and goes back to one of my absolute favorites – Stampin' Up!'s Branch Out.  This set is so fabulous for this time of year… for spring… for winter… and for spring.  I discovered yesterday that Shelli Gardner (co-founder) of Stampin' Up! does monthly challenges.  This month's challenge is for a "change of season" or holiday related cards.  So, I had to pull out my Branch Out.

I was very inspired by my garden for this card.  The leaves are turning (it's been very dry here .. no rain for a month..) consequently, things seem to be closing down a little earlier than normal.  Additionally, the Cardinals are out in force and the butterflies (including the Monarch's) have been all over the butterfly bushes and the milkweed we planted.  Also, the bird houses we put out a couple of years ago, are looking a little aged.  All three of those elements made it into this card.

Jaydee tip:  I used the Naturals White paper for this card.  Why?  The Naturals White is very organic both in texture and visually.  It still has the specks and flecks in it – and I felt that this perfectly reflected the organic feel of the leaves and the trees.  Many of my cards use Whisper White.   So, my advice to you… if you haven't tried any of the other "whites" – try them out – you might find some new favorites 🙂

Card stock:

Chocolate Chip, More Mustard, Really Rust, Naturals White (stamped image and sentiment)

Paper:

Autumn Traditions DSP

Inks:

Chocolate Chip, Really Rust, More Mustard, Only Orange (butterflies), Soft Suede (birdhouse), Real Red (Cardinal)

Ribbon:

Dusty Durango polka dot ribbon

Of course, I had to use my Stamp-a-ma-jig.  It's one of my absolutely must use tools.  I don't think there's a project I do where I don't use it.  The card has rich warm tones, lots of detail, yet a simple uncluttered feel.  I raised the main image and the Really Rust matt with Stampin' Dimensionals and tucked the sentiment underneath the space created by the raised image.

The tree stamp comes with a little bit of ground underneath the trunk.  I wanted to give the feeling of a more expansive space under the tree, so I used my Chocolate Chip marker and used it to extend the ground out to both edges of the image.

I hope you have a fabulous Tuesday.  Check out Shelli's site.  It's phenomenal that the CEO of the company still gets her hands dirty and loves to stamp.  Apparently she even swaps cards at Founders Circle.  Now that… is pretty cool. 🙂

As always, thank you for spending time in my little area of the stamping blogosphere.  Your visit is always appreciated.  As are your emails, comments and support.  If you have any questions about this project, SU or general card making questions… just send me an email – or leave me a comment.

Peace and hugs
Jaydee

  1. Every time I see a card with this set, I wish I had it! Yours is no exception–and I love the way you tied it in with what was actually happening in your yard.
