It's the fabulously talented LeAnne's turn to host our Paper Players challenge this week and she has a CAS theme challenge for us.
I think I've said this before, but I found some really amazing goodies in the new SU Occasions catalog and these Hello You dies were no exception, and I love that they work so well with the Crazy About You stamp set. So, tonight's card features the dies as well as my favorite Sale-A-Bration DSP Irresistibly Yours.
Actually, this wasn't the first card I made for this challenge, it was the second. My first card was great in idea – and totally terrible in execution. I promise I will share it with you later this week as an example of when to leave well enough alone! 🙂
For this card I paired the Irresistibly Yours DSP with some So Saffron card stock. I began by stamping the flower from Crazy about you onto So Saffron card stock with So Saffron ink and then fussy cut around it. I then took a piece of the Irresistibly Yours DSP and ran it through my Big Shot with the Hello from the Hello You dies.
I needed to add some color and, because this DSP is designed for ink, I used my Tim Holtz Mini blender and got to work with a mixture of blues and purples. I love the way the little dots stand out from the "hello" and match the dots in the DSP behind.
I wanted the "hello" to have a little more weight, so die cut a couple of "hello"s and layered them underneath the color blended one.

On a personal note:
Well, my finger seems to be healing. It was a totally stupid thing to do and I'm at the age where you would really thing I'd remember to pull my finger from out of the way of the door when I close it! I mean, it's not as though I'm five or anything! :-) Of course, when you have caused yourself an injury, you always end up hitting it against things. You'd think that you would remember it when it was throbbing… but somehow you forget about it 🙂
The weather got about 30 today and we finally saw our human neighbors! It's amazing how much we all hunker down at this time of the year, especially as it was -20 air temp earlier in the week. Of course, it was much lower with wind chill. When it's been -20 and a couple of days later it's +36…. it feels like summer has arrived :-) It actually did confuse our little chick-a-dee as we heard him singing his spring mating "see-saw". I think he won't be doing that for much longer when the temps drop again 🙂
A couple of you have asked me questions and I thought it would be a great time to answer them:
Doris… you wanted to know if we had put up our tree on the deck, overlooking the wetland, this year. The answer is no…. our snow storm hit us so quickly, that we couldn't get it up. However, we will definitely put it up in 2015!
Gerri, you asked me about the bird bath and what was in it that was attracting the doves….. yes, there is definitely warm water in there. The love sitting on the edge, and in the water, because they can keep their little feet warm on cold days 🙂
Karren asked whether we had seen the Bletchley girls…. yes! We love this mini-series. It's about women who worked as code breakers at Bletchley and how, in their after-war lives, work together to solve murder mysteries. It's smart and intelligent and we love it. We really hope they do a season 3. If you have Netflix you can find Bletchley Circle on there.

I’m glad you’ve seen the Bletchley Girls – I love those shows and I hope they do a Season 3 as well! As for your card, it’s just gorgeous – I love that beautiful, big die-cut sentiment and the multi-color look is fabulous!
Jaydee, I couldn’t wait to read your post and find out how you created the die cut sentiment. What genius to use the specialty paper and sponge it in ombre colors. I love the little dots, too. Great CAS card, my friend!

Well, you know how I LOVE dies! I guess I need to add this one to my list! I really like how you added dimension by layering the “hello.” Such a cute card!

First and foremost, I’m glad your finger is ok. Yikes! Your card is SO fun! Love the bright colors on the clean white space. It gets you in the mood for sunshine and warmer weather, which I am glad to hear you are starting to see. I remember when we lived up in North Dakota and 30 degrees was perfect weather to bust out the shorts after a long and frigid winter. I know it’s not over yet, so enjoy that warmer weather while you can. Hugs!

We where in the 70’s yesterday and will have more of the same weather again today and rain for Thursday.

I love your CAS card Jaydee – that sunny, bright yellow flower and the ombre die cut hello against the yellow flower and white background is just gorgeous. A great use of the DSP too – shows just how versatile it is!
