Hi Everyone.  Happy Saturday.

It's my turn to host the challenge at the Paper Players this week – and it's a clean and simple challenge.

Now, many people think one layer cards are difficult, or are boring.  However, the design team certainly showed that this wasn't the case.  There are some amazing cards to inspire you this week and we hope that you play along with us.

As the code word across at addicted to CAS is flower this week, this set is just right for the challenge, too!

I knew that I wanted to use the Secret Garden set and create a birthday card with it.  I also knew that I wanted to add interest and detail and that my Copic markers were the right way to do it with this set.   I was inspired to use this set when we were at Whole Foods today.  There were baskets outside featuring spring flowers.  One of my favorite all time spring flowers is the Daffodil.  I'm a spring baby and I so remember that these – and the croci – were the first flowers to appear before my birthday.

Here's my card:

Ppbirthday (1 of 1)-2

I tried to get a shot of the card showing that I had used my gel roller on a couple of spots of the flowers.  Adding glimmer with the roller adds a little more interest, without overpowering the card.  It's really pretty when you have it in hand.

Don't forget to join us at the Paper Players.  I'd really love to see what you create using this CAS theme.  Don't forget to pop along to addictedtocas, too!

On a personal note:

I can't tell you how pleased I am that the saga in Boston is over.  My hearts and prayers still go out to those affected.

Lou and I have seen two more movies at the Film Festival.  We saw Kinshasa Kids last night.  A Belgian movie that tries to highlight the plight of the thousands of street children in Kinshasa and how some of them are hounded out of their homes by their families and the church who consider them possessed by the devil.  The movie focuses on how some of these children try to make money working in the city and how they find ways to make music.  It was a heartwarming – but heartbreaking – movie.  Music was the common thread throughout the music – and what amazing music it was.  Boom Boom Chaka will forever be in my heart.

Today's movie theme was also music.  This time, much closer to home.   The movie theatre was packed full of "people of a certain age" – us included!  It was called Greenwich Village and is a documentary about folk music and how the music of Pete Seger, Bob Dylan and others shaped a generation.   The most memorable moment from the movie for me was when someone said that "coffee was our drug of choice then"!  Really?  Come on… mmmm…. seriously?   Not sure about that one :-)  It was fun reliving the songs and I enjoyed the contextual backdrop that ran throughout the documentary.  So much happened in the 60s.  It really was an amazing decade.

As always, thank you for visiting my little corner of the stamping blogosphere.   Warm hugs and prayers for those of you who need a little lift tonight.

Hugs

Jaydee

  1. Those movies sound really interesting. I hope I can get to see them sometime. Thanks for telling us about them.

  2. Such a simple, yet very beautiful card.
    Glimmer on your card………Gorgeous!
My thoughts and prayers also go out to those in the Boston community and so happy that saga is finally over as well
My thoughts and prayers also go out to the small community of West, Texas. We live 60 miles from there and felt the effect of that explosion.
Thought at first it was a tremor,(as we have them every so often) but listening to the news we found out that it was due to the explosion in West; felt as far away as Amarillo.
Have a great day and enjoy the rest of the weekend.

  3. Awesome challenge…really made me put on my creative thinking cap! Pretty floral, too! Sometimes we all just need to go back to the basics!

  4. What a pretty card, Jaydee! I love the way you colored the flowers, and the little bit of added sparkle. And I love the font on the sentiment. Thanks for the great challenge this week. It definitely took me out my comfort zone, but it was fun to focus on just stamping again.

  5. Love your card! The soft colours, the stamp… so beautiful. Thank you for sharing with us at Addicted to CAS and good luck with the DT call!

  6. Did I not comment the other day about how hard one layer cards are?? Sheesh, Jaydee…what a challenge… ;oP Actually, what an AWESOME challenge! And, I love your card. That is the BEST stamp set. :o) You just had to create a little bit of spring for yourself, huh? :oP
I too am relieved the saga in Boston is at an end. What a grueling week it was.
I’m rather skeptical about the “drug of choice” being coffee as well, lol! I’m so happy you and Lou have been able to spend time together and see movies. :o)
    Hugs!
P.S. Hi Lou! Were you laughing at that coffee/drug comment too? Hysterical!

  7. This is beautiful, Jaydee. Perfect placement of the images and I love the soft color palette–so lovely for spring. The extra touch of glimmer is a great way to add interest without bulk and I adore the way you stamped the leaves from that set–brilliant! Thanks for pushing me outside my box with this challenge–awesome!

  8. Jaydee,
After seeing your card, I am even more anxious to get my Secret Garden set!! So pretty with the shimmer on it, I noticed right away;) I like that this is one layer and love the stems! Thanks for the challenge!

  9. Love your card, jaydee! The soft colors are beautiful and I really like how you stamped the image off of the card. THanks for the fun challenge this week. I stepped out of my comfort zone and I am very glad I did. Big hugs, friend! 🙂
