Limited Supplies – Christmas Tree card

Hi Everyone.  Happy Monday and welcome to Jaydee's SU stampin blog.  We got back to our hotel in Stellenbosch late last night after a fabulous weekend.  Can you believe we were staying in a place where there was no cellphone or internet connection!  It was an amazing place and the scenery astonishing.  We saw lots of animals and I'll be sharing some highlights with you over the next few days.

Today's card was created for the splitcoaststampers limited supplies – christmas tree challenge # LSC240.  The rules stated limited supplies and layers…. that's always tough for me – you all know that layering is my favorite thing…. and it had to feature a Christmas tree.  So, I decided that clean and simple was the way to go and to highlight the tree in the Season of Joy (110384) stamp set.  It's a card that can be made in less than 10 minutes.

Card details:

  • I used Whisper White for the card base
  • I used Always Artichoke paper for the tree
  • I "inked" the tree from the Season of Joy set with the shimmer white paint from the mini catalog and then cut around the tree with my paper snips
  • I stamped the star from the Season of Joy set as the "major star" and then the star from the top of the tree another three times.
  • I then inked the sentiment with Always Artichoke and, using my ever faithful Stamp-a-majig – placed the sentiment where I needed it
  • I then attached the tree with my Stampin' Dimensionals and took my Always Artichoke marker and drew lines around three sides of the card
  • I added an extra star to the top of the tree and attached that with my Snail
You may be wondering why the star formation is the way it is????  Good question! :-)  It's a call out to where 1) we are celebrating our anniversary trip and 2) where my hubby was born.  this is my interpretation of the "Southern Cross".  It is the most familar constellation in the Southern Hemisphere.  Two nights ago, our ranger took us out on a night drive and he stopped in the middle of the reserve, turned off the lights of the vehicle and we stood and looked into the night sky.  The light pollution is non-existent where we were and the sky was, in the truest sense of the word, AWESOME!  Actually… it was absolutely awesome.  It was a humbling experience and the Southern Cross was shining bright.  So, even though the card had been created before I left…. it serves as a fitting homage to the Southern skies.

So… clean and simple and quick and easy.  The "hardest" part was cutting out the tree – and because it's such a clean image, it was very easy to cut out.  I love the way the shimmer paint reflects the light.

I hope you all have a fabulous Monday and I appreciate you stopping by my little area of the stamping blogosphere.  Your visits, your comments, and your support, are always appreciated.

Remember to send a card to someone – just because you can 🙂
Peace
Jaydee

  1. Hi Jaydee,
I keep coming back to this card. I liked even before I read the story behind it that adds just that much more meaning to it. Season of Joy is one of those sets that I’m not always sure what I think about it. I do have it and use it but I’m often lukewarm about the tree. Not so with your card. It’s perfect and the CAS lines and details add to its charm while the embossing kicks it up a knotch. Reminds me just a tad of Sr.Corita Kent’s work that was so popular in the 60’s and 70’s. Clean and Simple with a bit of swirl and sense of soul and meaning behind it.
Thanks for sharing the inspiration and giving me another idea for this oft neglected stamp set that sits waiting in my cupboard.
Hugs and welcome back – Jean

  2. Hi Kelli – it’s gorgeous isn’t it. 🙂 In fact, I used it again on today’s card. The sentiment is from the Christmas Greetings set – you can find it at this link http://www.stampinup.com/ECWeb/ProductDetails.aspx?productID=115448. preferred pricing on this item is $10.95 and the item number is 115448.
This sentiment has proven to be one of my favorites because a) I love the font and b) it’s just the perfect size
Let me know if you have any other questions and have a fabulous day
