Marina Mist Butterflies

Hi Everyone.  Happy Friday Night.  I am oh… oh… oh… so glad it is Friday!  I hPpa41ope you all have fabulous things planned for this weekend.

Tonight I am introducing you to Marina Mist.  It is the most gorgeous blue!
I finally was inspired to use it when I saw the challenge on Palspaperarts this week.  Here's the fabulous image that the talented team provided for us.

I stared at it, and stared at it.  My mind went to flowers and birds and very bright colors.  But…. I kept being drawn back to the glass ring butterfly.  There was something about the color and the transparency of it.  So, I decided to step away from my Apple for a little while and think about it.  I hadn't been away more than a couple of minutes when I realized I wanted to capture the butterfly on a card and that the color really reminded me of Marina Mist.

Finally… I had a reason to pull out my single precious piece of Marina Mist.  The great thing about inspiration challenges is that your mind and your creativity can go into so many different directions.  As you can see by visiting the PPA site this week!  I promise you, you will find something to CASE from the design team, or from the fabulous submissions.

I decided that I wanted to use my last piece of a Window Sheet as well.  The butterflies would be cut from Vellum using my Beautiful Wings embosslit – and they would be cut again from Marina Mist.  The window sheet has pre-printed leaves and flowers on it, so I wanted to make the butterflies look as though they were a part of it.  The hardest thing about this… taking a picture of the card!  Because of the window sheet, it is like photographing a piece of glass.

Here's the card…. I've given you a couple of different views, because it was so difficult to photograph.

It really was so tough to photograph… as you can see, the ribbon is even reflected…. as is my hand!  It was impossible to photograph in the light tent!

Here's a closeup of the major butterfly.
Ppa39vbutterfly You can see that I put him in my cardboard box and "smooched" him a little.  I first smooched with a little Vanilla and then added a quick spritz of Silver Foil.  I wanted to add just a little interest to him.  (You should be able to blow up the pic.)  The other two butterflies already had lots of texture, so I decided not to spritz them.

I wish you could see how gorgeous this color is.  It really is such a beautiful blue.

I used a rub-on from the Chit Chat rub-on set for the sentiment.  I wanted to do a darker color and could have used Basic Black or Basic Grey.  However, I decided that the warmth of the Chocolate Chip worked best.

Card recipe:

Marina Mist, Whisper White

Accessories:  Big Shot, Beautiful Wings embosslit, Vellum, Smooch Spritz, Whisper White Satin Ribbon, Window Sheet, Chit Chat rub-ons.

The card is a standard A2.  I cut the Marina Mist a 1/4" shorter on the horizontal and vertical planes.  The window sheet was cut to cover the Marina Mist.  I added the sentiment prior to adding the window sheet.

I ran a piece of snail vertically on the left hand side of the card, as I knew that would be covered by the ribbon.  I then adhered the window sheet to the Marina Mist card stock.  I played around with the placement of the butterflies until I got them where I wanted them.  You can see that they loosely frame the sentiment.

Once I had the position of the butterflies, I placed a glue dot underneath the window sheet to adhere it to the Marina Mist.  I then ran snail on the body of the vellum butterfly and adhered it to the Marina Mist butterfly.  Then the entire butterfly was adhered to the window sheet using mini glue dots.

The final step was to wrap the ribbon around the Marina Mist and the window sheet and tie it.  The whole thing was then adhered to the card base using dimensionals.

I love the fact that the butterflies have texture, have a little depth because of the color beneath and really match the window sheet.  (Well, I think they do anyway :-)!!!)

You will all notice that I restrained myself and refrained from adding pearls… but I really, really, really want to:-)

I hope you can see the original inspiration in the card.  It really does look lovely in person.

On a personal note:  Today was freezing… again… it is going to get down to 37 degrees tonight.  I even put the fire on for a little while today.  Also… it rained and it rained and it rained.  Man… it really reminded me of England.  Which reminds me… welcome to Dee and Carolyn!  New commenters amongst us.  Carolyn astutely picked up on my British idioms.  Yes, Carolyn.  I was born and educated in England – in fact in Yorkshire, where it's cold, windy and wet for about 364.5 days!  If any of you have read the Bronte sister's works, you will know about the howling winds across the moors.

Rach.. thanks for understanding about the bird.  I was still upset about it this morning.  Especially as I can't identify it.

Trish, we will all be praying for you this week as you begin your chemo.  You know that we are all rooting for you and send you love and strength.

Carolyn also asked me about the pearls.. and I know many of you have been wondering about that.  I tried coloring the pearls from SU's Pretties kit… well, it wasn't such a pretty result!  So, I gave in and ordered them from an online auction site.  I don't like doing that, but hey… a girl has gotta do what a girl has gotta do… and you know girls and their pearls! :-)  HOWEVER, it does look as though SU will be including pearls in the new catalog… so… I am eagerly awaiting the new catty to see what gives.

Actually, I'm getting really excited about the new catty for a number of reasons…. I want…. no… NEED to get my hands on more of the new colors and I'm dying to see what new stamps and Big Shot goodies we are going to have to play with.  Lou already knows what I want for our anniversary, Christmas and any other excuse I can find:-)

One more pic for you tonight…
Storage1 a little sneak preview of the changes in my stamping space. I found these great little storage boxes at "Tarjay".  They are fabulous for storing my embossing powder, glitter, glues, etc.   You can blow it up and have a Storage2look at the wording.

However, something much more important lurks in one of the other drawers…………

Pearls in the bottom drawer and……..  yes….. you read right…. cat treats in the other!

Well, it keeps Bailey from opening the drawer in my filing cabinet and spilling them all over the place to eat them.  Also, you can blame Brenda.  Once Brenda appeared at our house with a packet of Friskies Party Mix, the cats have never been the same!

Have a fabulous weekend, everyone.  I really hope you have restful, peaceful, fun filled weekend. As always, thank you so much for spending time in my little area of the stamping blogosphere.  Your visits, your support and your comments are very much appreciated.

Hugs

Jaydee

  1. Wow this is gorgeous! There are so many wonderful deatils – you made very good use of those last sheets of paper! Marina Mist is lovely! Thanks for playing at PPA! And on a personal note my mother was born and raised in Leeds – yep half my family has a Yorkshire brogue………….

  2. Such a wonderful card. The blue is perfect. Love that vellum butterfly. I am still waiting to use my smooch, maybe this week end. I don’t have a window sheet. Can you stamp on acetate?
So hot here today (86 degrees) that I had to turn on the cooler. Love seeing your organization. Gives me ideas for a total purge this summer. Again I am moving. My husband has been patient but says he needs more than a 6 inch square to work in! Enjoy your week end.

  3. This card is beautiful! Love the vellum butterfly too. Oh, and that Marina Mist paper! WoW! I’ve never seen it but have heard so much about how pretty it is…..can’t wait to order some when the new catalog come out. Again, BEAUTIFUL CARD!

  4. Please, please, please, don’t stop using pearls! I love the look, and your cards would loose the “Jaydee-ness” we all aspire to attain! With that plea out of the way, I have to say yet again WOW oh WOW! What a beautiful card. You captured the butterflies perfectly, it looks as if they could just fly right off the card. Now wouldn’t Bilbo, Sam, Bailey et al LOVE that! Thanks too for sharing your storage drawers…it made me laugh. Your added news about Lou and your purrballs are the cherries atop your blog–or maybe I should say the pearls a top ;)!
Happy Weekend to One and ALL

  5. Beautiful card! Love the Marina Mist. I keep forgetting about the window sheets, but I know exactly what you mean about photographing them! Great job with your interpretation of the inspiration photo! I am so looking forward to rhinestones and pearls in the new SU! catty! Woo hoo! Thanks for joining us again at PPA this week! (And by the way…loved the Bronte classics. I haven’t read them since my younger years. Now that I am retiring, I think that I will revisit some of the classics!)

  6. Oh my, what a beautiful shade of blue. Reminds me of distant undisturbed island waters. The kind that you can see clear to the bottom of the ocean or lake. I have never actually seen Marina Blue in person, but can’t wait to get my hands on some. I, too am anxiously awaiting the release of the New Catty, from little bleeps that are going around, it is going to prove to be one of the best yet. I certainly do hope so. I thought this last one was rather lacking in variety of product. On to the Card of the Day…Beautiful, what else can I say. The blue and the white are striking together, and no more is needed. I love what you have done with the large Butterfly, it does show up if you enlarge the picture. I never used the window sheets, but the way you have, really makes me sad that I didn’t. The White Satin Ribbon is just perfect for this Card, and adds so much to it. Thanks for sharing, I do appreciate it. Thanks also for diving in and using your last 2 treasured pieces of paper stock.
