Moxiefabworld – Gray is the New Black – Happy 90th

Hi Everyone.  Happy Sunday night.    If you are looking for Saturday's "missing" post – click here.  That's the post that disappeared into cyberspace and is the PaperPlayers Challenge 29 post.  Consequently, two posts for today!

My dear cyber friend, the wonderful Sue Berker, asked her blog readers to help her reach a goal of 90 cards to celebrate her husband John's upcoming 90th birthday.  It was an appeal I absolutely could not resist.

Before we got on the plane a week or so ago, I stopped into my local bookseller and purchased the latest copy of Papercrafts magazine.  There was a great article in there about gray being the new black.  I loved the idea, so decided that John's card would be grey.  I also noticed that Moxiefabworld were doing a challenge on this theme this week….. (A quick – non-paid plug for Papercrafts… they also have a special out called Color Inspiration for card makers.  If you haven't seen it yet, you really need to.  So many great color combinations to try.   Now, back to our scheduled programming…..

Sue is the queen of clean and simple, so I decided to keep to that for John's card.  I also searched to find the perfect quote for the inside.  I used a little ribbon, but I think it is OK because of the color and the horizontal stripes in the DSP.  You have seen me use this layout many times before, but I'd love to hear what you think about this card.

Card recipe – all supplies Stampin' Up! unless noted:

  • Card stock:  Basic Grey, Whisper White
  • DSP:  Neutrals Patterns Pack
  • Accessories:  Vellum, Basic Gray Satin ribbon, Silver pearls (non-SU)
  • Sentiment:  Typefont from my word processing program, printed onto vellum
  • type the sentiment in dark grey and then adding the 90 in a paler grey and printed that onto a sheet of vellum in my printer.  I then cut it out to 4 3/4" x 3 1/2
  • cut a piece of Whisper White card stock to the same size and placed a piece of the DSP, cut at 1' by 4 3/4"
  • adhere the grey DSP using snail and then placed the vellum sheet on top.  I secured the vellum sheet using special vellum "glue dots"
  • wrapped the satin ribbon around – securing it with a little snail at the back
  • adhere frontspiece to the card base using dimensionals
  • Add silver pearls

Here's a pic of the inside:

Isn't that just the coolest quote?  It took me a little while to find the right one, but I love it.  So, Sue, the card will be winging its way to you.  It was my honor to be able to add to your collection for John's birthday.

Tomorrow I will have some pics of my holiday to share with you, as well as the deets on the Stylish Blogger award I received from Ann.

Prayers tonight for:  Rose, Adelle, Vickie, Maria, Brien, Germaine and Pri.  As well as those of you who need a little lift.

Have a wonderful Monday everyone…. me… grrrrr my first day back at work!!!!

Hugs

Jaydee

  1. This is a fabulous card! I don’t think the ribbon is too “feminine” at all. I think because it is grey, and because the layout is so simple, it works beautifully.
The quote inside is fabulous and perfect! Well done. :o)
Thank you for adding Brien to your prayer list. He is still quite sore, and I guess he will be for a number of days yet.
I hope tomorrow is a smooth and easy day for you…the first day back is ALWAYS the worst.
    Hugs!

  2. One word – FAB-U-LOUS!!!! That sentiment is beautiful and brought tears to my eyes – John will LOVE your card – he appreciates beautiful things very much. Thank you SO MUCH, Jaydee – you are super special and very kind and thoughtful.

  3. WOW, Super-duper! Oh the ribbon is great on the card and love the *90* . . . clean and simple it is, but it took you to show us that.

  6. Now I was going to send John a card but how can I top this. Stunning is the word for this card. I will try to do something but it will not top this. And the quote inside is perfect. You have done it yet again!

  7. What a great idea Jaydee to send out the birthday card. I will, indeed, follow your path. However, I am not sure I can top that. Love your clean and simple card.
