You are awesome

Happy Wednesday night, everyone!

I thought the title of tonight's post was appropriate considering all the cards we gathered for charity…. I'd also like to dedicate this card to my darling hubby… who is truly awesome.

I've been invited as a guest designer for one week during April on the splitcoaststampers Clean and Simple challenge.  I'm really thrilled by this.  As a precursor to this, the guest designers were asked to create a card based on one of three designs.  I chose this card and decided to use my FYI set.  (You can see my other FYI cards here

I've been wanting to play around with making 2D flowers and saw ones made with the 5 petal punch on scrapnextras.  I thought now was the perfect time to make the flower and use it on the sketch.  You know that I can't resist a clean and simple challenge!

Yaa2

Card recipe:

Card stock:    Melon Mambo

DSP:    Melon Mambo

Ribbon:  Mistletoe from the Christmas Holiday Mini

To make the flower, I chose two different scraps from the Melon Mambo DSP pack and punched out flowers in alternating layers of the two different papers…I used 5 layers – 2 of the dot and 3 of the square.

I adhered them to each other, moving them slightly off center each time.  I started with two "squares" layers and ended up with the "dot" layer.  I folded over each of the petals as I adhered them, to give them depth.  I finished off the flower with a large half pearl from the Pretties Kit.

I cut a piece of the striped Melon Mambo DSP and put that at the bottom of my Melon Mambo card base – adhered using snail.

To make the stem and the leaf, I took a piece of scrap Old Olive and freehand cut a stem, making it a little wider at the bottom and narrower at the top.  I used my 3/4" punch to punch out a circle and then put the punched circle back into the punch half way…. I hope that makes sense…. I should have taken a photograph of that…. Putting it back into my punch, I was able to punch a leaf out of the circle.

I adhered the stem at the bottom with a little snail and did the same with the leaf.  The flower is adhered using 3 mini glue dots.

I stamped the "you are awesome" from the  FYI stamp set in StazOn.  All that was left was to tie my ribbon around the card!

It took less than 10 minutes to make and was really easy.  I hope you like it.  I certainly had fun making it.

Have a fabulous Thursday everyone.  I really hope you get to spend lots of time doing the things you love, with those you love the most… and if, like me, you have to spend the day on conference calls… I hope they are fun and not too boring 🙂

Hugs

Jaydee
