Hi Everyone and welcome blog hoppers, I'm so pleased you stopped by today.
At any time on the blog hop you can always go back to the OWH page
to visit any one of the great blogs on the hop, all you need to do is
click on this link to go to OWH home page You probably came here from Karrie's page. If not, you can click on her name and go back and check on the projects that she has for you!
Brenda is the next stop on the tour and she has a fabulous card lined up to show you and a great layering tutorial for you. To see what she has for you, all you need to do is click on Brenda's link.
This weekend is a special weekend as my blog is part of the Operation Write Home Memorial Day Weekend Bloghop. OWH's motto is ""Supporting our nation's armed forces by sending blank handmade
greeting cards to write home on, as well as cards of gratitude to
encourage them." My readers and I have already donated 1000 cards for our service men and women and we are in the midst of another card drive for this wonderful cause.
Visitors to my blog during the blog hop, who leave a comment with their details, will be entered into a drawing to win stamps and accessories from Stampin' Up – the value of the package is over $50! All you have to do is leave a comment and you will be entered into the draw. It's my way of saying thank you. I've placed a picture of the blog candy, with a description at the bottom of the post.
The challenge put to us from OWH was to create a red white and blue card that featured the words "missing you".
Clean and simple is my style and this stamp was the perfect stamp to use. It allowed me to keep the focus on the sentiment with very little distraction. However, i couldn't just create one card – I had to create two!
The same "Hero" stamp has been used for both cards. The only difference is that I used my marker pens on the first one and only inked up the word Hero.
I used three stamps for this card:
Hero – from Paper Inspirations
Flag Star – from Stampabilities
and the "I miss you" is from the Stampin' Up! set called FYI.
I used three colors of paper for both of these cards and they are all from Stampin' Up: Night of Navy, Real Red and Whisper White.
tip #1: scoring card stock is a great way to add detail and dimension in a subtle way. All you need is a cutter and a bone folder or stylus. You can see that I added two scored and indented lines below the Hero.
tip #2: using marker pens to ink up stamps instead of ink pads works wonderfully to create a stamped image that has 2 – or even more – colors from the same stamp
For the next card, I took the same Hero and Flag Star stamps, which were inked up using markers.
I used an embossing folder from Stampin! Up! called "Square Lattice" to create the background.
tip: An embossing folder is great for creating texture on both background or foreground images and can be used for the entire card base, or just portions of it. You can see here that the texture really helps to make the focal point – the sentiment – pop from the background page.
I'd like to say thank you to all the past and present servicemen and women and their families – for everything they do.
You too can help out this great cause. All you need to do is donate your hand crafted cards. OWH and the servicemen and women they support will be very grateful for your donation. You can see stories and pics from servicemen and women who have been able to share a little love with their family and friends through a handmade card – and get details on how you can help – at this link.
If you have any questions on the projects I made or card making in general – just leave me a comment, or send me an email at [email protected]
Have a wonderful, safe, weekend and spare a thought for those brave men and women and their families. Thank you so much for visiting.
Don't forget to go visit Brenda next!
Hugs
Jaydee

Hi Sweetie…
I love the cards you have created. I especially love the little red heart in the center of the button on the star in the first card. In your second card, I love the textured background, how creative that is. LOVE it. Your lettering is gorgeous and sure does pop on both cards. Thank you for the inspiration to give this card making a try.
I too want to make some card for OWH, so you have inspired me along with the other fine ladies on this wonderful blog hop trail. Thank you, thank you.
I am also thrilled at the opportunity to win a little eye candy. I am a beginner, I have nothing so this would be wonderful. I am going to go searching in the house today to see what I can find to start creating. I am a shut in (for a month now and have an additional 2 weeks as of Friday.) I am having issues with my lungs and acute asthma. It has been very hard on me. I spend a lot of time in a recliner, so this is something I could do from my chair. Yeah….
Please stop by and say hi. I would be so honored if you signed up to follow my blog. I love meeting new friends.
Country hugs sweetie…Sherry

Hey Jaydee,
I love the cards you created. It may not be SU but that Hero Stamp is really wonderful – I thought at first you had taken apart one of the wheels and started flipping through looking for it – lol! Then of course I read on…sad when a brain can be so easily distracted when the info is right in front of it.
The simplcity and elegance of the cards really add to the overall impact. And the texturing really adds a lot of pizzazz and pop!
As always thanks for sharing your remarkable talents my friend.
