Paper Players 102 – Ann’s Theme Challenge

Hi Everyone.  Happy Saturday.

Ann has a fabulous challenge for us this week at The Paper Players.  As the temps are in the 90s – why not go for a winter theme!   Yes, it is Christmas in July.  As I am NOT as warm weather girl, playing around with winter colors and thinking of snow and cold weather, made me feel a whole lot cooler!

I really loved the idea of a Christmas theme card and remembered, that I had seen a great inspiration photo across at for yourinspiration.  I thought that combining the two challenges would be a match made in heaven!

Isn't that a gorgeous photo?  Looking at that frosty scene, I knew that I wanted to use snowflakes and lots of bling on my card.   I wasn't quite sure how to get the crispy feel that the photo evokes.  Fog frozen on trees has such a distinct feel and I knew that I couldn't get that with cardstock and glitter.   I realized that I needed to pull out my vellum and run it through an embossing folder with my big shot.   Oh, yes!  That worked!  I was worried that the embossing folder would actually cut through the vellum, but it worked just fine.

Here's a closeup

Then, I pulled out the fabulous glitter paper and ran it through my big shot with the snowflake die.  All that was left was to create the sentiment and add some basic rhinestones.

Here's what I came up with

So, can you see the inspiration photo in the card?  I hope so 🙂

We hope that you will play along with us this week at the Paper Players and I know that the talented team across at foryourinspiration would love you to play along, too!

Warm hugs and prayers for those who need a little lift tonight.  Have a wonderful Sunday full of love, laughter, cool breezes and warm hugs!

Jaydee

  1. What a beautiful card – the colours are so elegant, and the glitter paper – oh my! I like seeing your cards again, although I hope that once you get settled, you give us a tour of your home, what you’ve given a look at so far is so comfortable and stylish! Can’t wait for the tour!
Especially enjoyed the reminiscences of your grandmother – sadly, my daughter doesn’t get to have the joy of a grandma, but it’s so lovely to read how vivid your memories are. I just so enjoy your blog – thanks for sharing your creativity and your life.

  2. Gorgeous card! I never thought about embossing on vellum. I will have to try that soon!

  3. Holy moly! Embossing the vellum was BRILLIANT! That is one gorgeous card, Jaydee. Stunning. Truly stunning. I never would have thought to emboss vellum, but will now have to find some way to do so. :o)
Sometimes the simplest cards are the most elegant. I love this. Love it!
I hope all is well with you, Lou and the kitties. The girls and I have returned home and are now racing through all and sundry that must be done when a vacation is over. Bah.
    Hugs!
    P.S. Hello Lou!

  4. Hi Jaydee and All~ sorry I’ve been AWOL for so long. I’ve been avoiding the back log of e-mails since coming back from vacation. (Only because that means that I have to admit that it’s over for another year) Boy, I missed some great cards and photos! This one is my favorite in the past couple weeks, LOVE LOVE LOVE the embossed velum. Can’t wait to try that for myself. You’ve also made me anxious to play more with the new colors and dsp. I also think the summer starfruit is going to be a big favorite for me, the Gumball green makes my mouth water as well!
All is good here; I’ve finished PT, my kiddos are home for the summer <3 and my garden is growing beautifully. I've harvested my first peas and have baby green beans, tomatoes, carrots, beets, and brussel sprouts growing bigger each day.
I've enjoyed getting caught up with you, Lou and the fur babies. Thanks again for sharing so much of yourself with us!
Hugs and wishes for a happy week to one and all.

  5. Beautiful, beautiful, just beautiful!!! Your inspiration photo reminds me of the movie Narnia and the frosty scenes with the “white witch”. I think you met both challenges very well. Love the embossed vellum look especially with the added sparkle of rhinestones.

  6. Just gorgeous, Jaydee! This is so soft and prety and makes me miss snow! I love the spots of bling and the embossed vellum. The sentiment says it all! I hope you enjoyed your weekend, my friend! Big hugs sent your way! 🙂

  10. I too love your beautiful card! And miss winter. Have had quite enough of this 90’s weather! Oh well. Guess I shall dig out my holiday stamps. Wonder if I have any vellum anywhere. Thanks for sharing all your talent and photos. P.S. Love your kitties, but I got a dog a couple of weeks ago! 🙂
