Peace

Hi Everyone.  Happy Wednesday.  I have a quick post for you tonight.

I've really been flagging in the creative department lately.  Finding myself looking at my supplies and wondering what I should do, or could do, only to find that I was uninspired to do anything and walking away.

When I get like that, I try to do something completely different – try something new.  I saw that Jennifer McGuire was offering up another class – Holiday Card Workshops and decided it would be a good idea to try that.  Then, I saw a vintage card kit and decided that might force me to do something different.  Vintage isn't my personal style – it's fabulous and I really admire people who rock it, but it isn't my go to style.  So, I decided to see if doing that would help.

It did… a little.  It felt good to be creating something again.  The first couple of cards I completely CASed, but this one was my own creation.   One of the videos on the class was using the positive and negative piece of a sentiment.  Ah…. I had a brain wave!

Most of the cards I made were dark colors, but I wanted to do something different and had an image in my head and went looking for a light color.  Now, I wasn't a demo when Soft Sky was an In Color, but remember so many demos talking about what a fabulous blue it was.  When I played with it yesterday, I fell completely in love with it.  It's such a soft blue and was perfect for what I had in mind.   I used the tree stamp from the vintage card kit and a "peace" die that I had in my stash.

The tree stamp only has 4 trees, so I stamped it multiple times a little higher and a little lower and then embossed with white embossing powder.  I cut the die from Soft Sky DSP and used the negative on the outside of the card and the positive on the inside.  I rushed outside to take a photograph – it was VERY windy – and in my rush, forgot to take a photo of the inside!!!!  So, I will do that tomorrow and update this post with the inside photo.

In the meantime, here's the outside of the card:

Peace-2

The tinsel came in the card kit, so I decided to give a little bling to the card by gluing a little piece of tinsel on the left side.   I was really pleased with it, and want to give it a try with a darker color scheme.  But, I really do love the softness of the Soft Sky.

If you haven't tried any of Jennifer's online classes, I can really recommend them.  The videos are very informational and full of great tips and ideas.  Plenty of guests keep the styles diverse.  Really good value.  BTW – I have not been paid by Ms. McGuire for this infomercial 🙂

On a personal note:

Colleen… hope you are warmer!  The thing about your neck of the woods – it's either very hot or cold!

Rach and Kelly – it makes my heart happy that you are teaching your children about the vets of past wars and honoring their memory.  It would make my dad happy, too.  Thank you! 🙂

The weather was cold, but the skies were blue and the sun was shining.  A perfect fall day.  I think I have now accepted that summer has gone and that winter is on it's way.   One of the things I totally love about living in this neck of the woods is the 4 seasons.  Most people ask me why I don't migrate south for winter.  Well, that's easy.  I'd rather migrate north for summer!  I LOVE the winters here.  I don't think I have ever appreciated spring as much as I have since we moved here.   Summers.. well, apart from the fact that I love the visiting birds, I hate the heat and humidity.   Hate it!  When most people think of Mn they only think of the cold winters, they don't realize how hot and humid it gets.

In celebration of winter and the upcoming festive season, I did a little shopping for holiday decor.  I can't wait for it to arrive – and I can't wait until after Thanksgiving so that we can decorate!

As always, thank you for your visit and for your comments.  They really do mean a great deal.  Warm hugs and prayers for those of you who need a little lift tonight.  I'll be back with another card tomorrow.

Hugs

Jaydee

  1. Hi Jaydee!! Such a peaceful card . . . . absolutely beautiful.
I am like you . . . . I go for Winter season . . . I never feel neat during warm/hot days. Time is refreshing . . . I might go to Paris to see some Xmas décorations and see if I can find an additional Santa Claus for the Santa Claus corner I am planning for this year. Last year I received an amazing Santa . . . all white . . . 16″ tall.
I celebrate Thanksgiving all year around . . . there are so many things for which we have to be thankful.
May God bless you, Lou and your followers.
    Marina . . . . from far Africa.

  2. For a dry, more moderate summer come to Alberta. Edmonton has lots of festivals and a very extensive trail system in our lovely river valley. And Canadians are pretty nice. We have mountains too in Banff and Jasper.

  3. So pretty Jaydee! I agree that Soft Sky is a lovely shade of blue and is one of my favorites. The soft color goes with this sentiment perfectly and your trees are delightful all snowy and white.

  4. I was first introduced to SU! when Soft Sky was an In Color and fell in love with it. It was SO much better than Bashful Blue–for many reasons! :op
I too have been stuck. My mojo has fled and I’m struggling to find it. UGH! I created a VERY ugly card yesterday. No, I mean it. It was beyond hideous. And, it took me an hour to do it! How annoying! But, it was something, right?
You, however, have not created something ugly. This card is soft and beautiful and I really love it.
I too adore winters and sincerely wish we got more snow here. Fall is, of course, my favorite, and spring is quite lovely as well. Summers you can keep. Yuck!
    Hugs!
    P.S. Hi Lou! :o)

  5. This card is a keeper. I love the soft blue and the sparkling trees. Beautiful card. Can’t wait for some of that snow here in VA. I love winter. Maybe I should move to your area!

  6. Beautiful card. I, too, love the 4 seasons, summer being the least favorite. Glad you hold off on Christmas decorating ’til after THANKSgiving. We have so much to be thankful for.

  7. What a gorgeous card. The trees are lovely on that Soft Sky CS; very soft and relaxing feel about it.
Tuesday evening and last night we had freezing temperatures, but come this Sat. we are to be in the 70’s and for Sunday; up in the 80’s. That’s Texas for ya; wearing sweat pants one day and shorts back on the next.
    Enjoy your day

  8. You never disappoint! Gorgeous! Very peaceful…
Unlike a lot of stampers, I miss Bashful Blue; it was so blue. Soft Sky has green in it to my eye. Doesn’t matter — it’s what I have now, but I still have plenty of everything in Bashful Blue for when the mood strikes.
If you want cold, snowy, icy winters and hot, very humid summers, come to Cincinnati! Yuck! I think southern CA must have it better, but I would miss the autumn and spring beauty we have here, my two favorite seasons.
Marina, you have the right idea of Paris at Christmas! This year, I am decorating the display case at our public library branch with my Santa collection. I may just be throwing in a few stamped sparkles with them too.
Thanks for sharing a creative block with us, Jaydee!

  9. These are beautiful and peaceful trees in very soft color. I like both the bashful blue and soft sky blue. The problem is, when I take a look at the dsp, it’s hard to tell which one is which without having to try to match it with the color coach. I found a solution though. I would write all of the colors on the back of the dsp package. With this year’s dsp, I see that the colors are now listed on the back of the dsp package.
I am not a winter person. It’s too cold and you have to bundle up everywhere you go. I’ll take summer anytime.

  10. Saw your card over at the Holiday Card Workshop Gallery and just HAD to stop by and say how much I love your card – absolutely gorgeous and so elegant. Love the soft colours and the white embossing – WOW!
