Happy Thursday.
It’s another challenge across at Just Us Girls this week and it’s my second week as guest designer.
This week it’s Word Week and the team has chosen a fun word for us. It inspired me to think outside of the box – literally 🙂 I created a card with a new set from Pinkfresh Studios that I got as part of the recent Create and Connect event. It’s called Sky High.
Here’s a sneak peek:

And here’s our word challenge:

My card was made using a technique that we learned from the great Jennifer McGuire. It’s a piece of acetate that wraps around the back of a piece of strong card stock. Once adhered, the acetate pulls the cardstock in slightly at each edge and creates place that allows the card to stand on it’s own without a card base.
It also allows the front focal point to look as though it is floating! Perfect for my choice of container – a hot air balloon.
Here’s my card:

The colors for the card are much brighter than I would normally use but, once again, I pulled out one of my Color Box cards from Sarah Renae Clark to give me some inspiration.
Here’s a photo of the inspiration colors along with my card:

It’s pretty hard to describe how the card stands, so I wanted to show you a side shot so that you can see how the acetate pulls the sides of the card and allows it to stand:

To clean up the back of the card and hide the wrapped acetate and adhesive, I die-cut a panel from a background die and added that to the back.
So, we hope that you will join us. We would love to see YOUR take on CONTAINER.
I hope you will check out the fabulous inspiration from the design team, too! I’ll be back tomorrow with another card. In the meantime, warm hugs and prayers for those of you who need a little lift tonight.

A pretty hot air balloon – and a clever choice for the ‘container’ challenge over at Just Us Girls. You’re sure to inspire others to ‘think outside the box’ when it comes to making their container choise.

Your hot air balloon is colored awesomely – Fun way of using “container“!
Jaydee… love your container. I saw Jennifer demo the acetate trick the other day with the new C&9 release. Very cool… even cooler that the card lies flat for mailing. Love the balloon… so out of the box! Loving that you are here!
Jaydee, this is a great and original idea of container (although I am too afraid of heights to stand in one of those.) Your hot air balloon is so pretty and your coloring is spectacular!!!
I’m sure that fancy hot air balloon contains a newly married couple! This is such a great out of the box take on this week’s challenge, Jaydee!
Fabulous card! Amazing coloring and fun “wrap”, this is a card that anyone/everyone would cherish to have.
Fun and fabulous Jaydee. Like your thinking with our Word Challenge.
I saw Jennifer’s video and can’t wait to try that technique, Jaydee. It was perfect for your beautifully colored hot air balloon, making it float on the front of your card.
I love your beautiful, colorful hot air balloon! That technique is awesome and was so perfect for your balloon to be floating in the air. Fabulous card!
