Hi Everyone. Happy New Year! I hope that 2012 is a year filled with love, laughter, health and happiness for all of you!
I have a quick card for you tonight. I combined the sketch challenge across at Friday Mashup with the inspiration challenge across at Moxie.
I looked at the trigger challenge with all those stripes and my mind – obviously – went to making a striped card. Then I thought… nah! let's see if I can come up with something different that incorporates the colors from the stripes – and the stripes – but in a less obvious route than I would normally take. (I tend to be very literal about things!) I saw the sketch across at Friday Mashup and that got me thinking about making a New Year card. It also gave me the opportunity to use the Top Note die for the first time. (Yes, I must be the last surviving hold out for this die as I only bought it a month ago!)
I decided to use the colors from the inspiration photo and use My Digital Studio to create a base for the card that used various font sizes for 2012. I pulled in the colors from the inspiration pick and covered enough of the card stock to be able to cut out the top note die and incorporate as many of the color combos as possible.
I then used my striped embossing folder for the background and the sketch was the perfect way to incorporate stripes again with the sentiment. (Pity, I didn't cut the green layer straight. grrrrrr)
Here's what I came up with
Of course, I had to add 3 silver balls to mimic the drop of the ball in Times Square! The ribbon is actually the Concord Crush ribbon (the same as the background card stock), but for some reason it really photographs much more blue than the card stock.
I popped the Top Note cut out using Stampin' Dimensionals. All the other layers are adhered using glue. The sentiment was created using MDS as well.
I know it is impossible to see it, but I did add a little shimmer and shine over the entire card with some pearlescent powder. The card really does look much better in real life than it does in the photo. Anyway, I hope you can see the inspiration from the photograph.
On a personal note
Lou and I will be spending a quiet New Year at home enjoying a home cooked meal, a bottle of Champagne and just celebrating the good and bad things about 2011 and looking forward, with great expectations, to what 2012 will bring for us.
We both thank you for your support during this past year. Your visits, your support and your comments really do mean a great deal to both of us. We have enjoyed getting to know you a little more in 2011. Have a truly wonderful 2012.
As always, warm hugs and prayers for those of you who need a little lift today.
