Robin and Wren and Winter Sketches for Paper Players #575

Happy Sunday.

It's my turn to host the Paper Players challenge this week – and it's sketch week.  It was a great excuse for me to bring out my Robin and Wren and Winter Sketches stamps and dies from The Greetery.

Here's the sketch:

I needed a background to separate the two sections of the card.  I used my Snowflake stencils and then used the branch from Winter Sketches to create the horizontal element.  I stamped and die-cut the little robin and added a sentiment.  To add a little bit of shimmer and shine, I outlined the branch and the berries with gold embossing powder before popping it onto the card base.

It was a very sunny day when I took this photo and I couldn't quite get the colors right in post-editing.

Robin-and-WrenI hope you will join us and play along with us this week.   As always, the design team have some fabulous inspiration for you:

On a personal note:

Still cold here!!!!  The doves have been roosting on the edge of the heated bird bath and we noticed a flock of birds nesting in the shrub next to where the hot air comes out of the vent at the side of the house and others sit on the step at the front door snuggled up against the bottom of the door where, no doubt, they are finding some residual heat coming from the door!  So, who is a bird brain then? Smart little things!

It might be cold, but it has been incredibly sunny with gorgeous pale blue skies.  The deer and the pheasant have been hanging around enjoying the seed block that Lou put out for them.

Deer-and-Pheasant

We created a wood pile from the old stump that fell down a couple of years ago and it is proving to be a wonderful hiding place for all the little critters in winter.  It's also a perfect perch for the dominant male pheasant as he preens himself in the sun and watches over his territory!  The fire pit also turns out to be a nesting space for mice.  They have created a warm and cozy, feather filled, little nest right in the middle of the fire pit.  The steel lid and snow keeps them safe from predators and cozy and warm during these freezing cold days.

I'll be back tomorrow with another card.  In the meantime, warm hugs and prayers for those of you who need a little lift tonight.

Hugs

Jaydee

  1. Absolutely beautiful, Jaydee! I love the stenciled background. The bird and the branch take my breath away. This is one of the prettiest cards ever. Have a wonderful week!

  2. Jaydee your winter card is so pretty! I love that stencilled snowflake portion – it totally caused me to rethink my card this week! And the bird on the branch separates both panels perfectly. Great card! Love the wildlife in the garden too – such a haven!

  3. Jaydee, your card and challenge are fabulous! This sketch is a keeper for sure. I love how you left all that white space and focused only on the top section. Your snowy scene and shimmery branch is gorgeous. Your little robin looks like he is enjoying this snow day. As always, I love your backyard and all your visitors. I would just sit and look out the window all day at this beautiful winter wonderland!

  4. Your “back yard” is wonderful. I would just sit all day and watch what was going on out there. So fun and beautiful. And your card is so nice also.

  5. This is my favorite sketch, and I love what you did with it! You had me at the bird, but the stenciling in the background is beautiful! I was stunned to see that pheasant in your yard along with all the deer! How cool! We used to see them often around here but they’re all gone now!

  6. Jaydee, I love seeing your wildlife photos, they are so good! Your card is such a beauty too! I love the way you used the inking for the top of your card, the hint of snowflakes is so pretty. I love the bird and the branch images, great design!

  7. I loved this sketch, Jaydee, and I’m sure I’ll use it over and over. I love how you kept the background of your card super CAS to let your beautiful bird shine!
