Happy Sunday.
It’s the fabulous Christy’s turn to host our Paper Players challenge this week and it’s Clean and Simple Week. Christy chose a fun theme for our challenge but it was one that had me rummaging through my stash. I couldn’t quite find a stamp/die that really fit (seriously, with all the stuff I have you wouldn’t think that would be a problem!!!). However, I spied a very old Stampin’ Up! set called Hey Chick in my stash and realized there was a stamp in there that would work. This is the original Hey Chick – not the one that was re-issued back in 2021. It’s so old that I cannot even remember when it first came out!
Here’s a sneak peek:

And Heavens to Mergatroyd, I actually remembered it was CAS week this week! Here’s Christy’s challenge:

This card came together really easily. I cut a panel to 3.5 x 4.75 and used a very old Tim Holtz stencil to create a soft background that was reminiscent of netting for a chicken coop. I then die-cut and ink blended some grass and flowers from a die I found on Amazon and added that to the front of the “netting”. I stamped and fussy cut the egg and popped that up in between the grasses and flowers and added my sentiment.
Here’s my full card:

Well, eggs are what make a baby animal, right?!! :-). It was also a great excuse to ink up this fabulous set that has survived twice yearly clearouts of my stash. I was thrilled when SU brought it back in 2021, but opted not to get the new dies that were released as I really don’t use this set anywhere near as much as I should.
As always, the design team have some fabulous inspiration for you:
On a personal note:
Well, this has been a fun week weatherwise. This week was the start of our official Severe Weather Awareness week. Mother Nature decided it would be fun to put that into practice. It began with a major storm that came ripping through on Monday with winds up to 80mph and multiple tornado warnings. So it was cat wrangling time to try to get them – and us – into our master bathroom shower for the duration of the warnings. Luckily we were fine and missed the worst of it. The came Friday – another severe thunderstorm warning and this one spawned baseball sized hail and multiple tornadoes. I was listening to the live broadcast from our local TV station when I heard them mention our street and the closest major street and told us to get to safety. Once again we had to try wrangling the cats while the sirens were screaming, wind was blowing and rain was absolutely bucketing it down. 3 cats disappeared into their favorite spots and Lou and I were left with Luna and the two of us in the master bathroom. We had to stay there for almost an hour until the sirens stopped. They started up again about 30 minutes later about 3 miles from us. Luckily the tornado that touched down near us was far enough away that it didn’t impact us and, luckily, was in an open area. Oh, and during the storm on Friday, the temps dropped from 77 to 43 degrees! Oh yeah, and it snowed this morning! So Mother Nature really had a laugh at our expense this week!
I’ll be back later in the week with another card. In the meantime, warm hugs and prayers for those of you who need a little lift tonight.

Wow, I thought it was crazy here in Colorado that temps dropped 20 degrees in 24 hours and we got snow on Friday, and that’s nothing compared to what y’all had. Glad you’re all safe and hope the cats have forgiven you for trying to wrangle them for their own safety. Anyway, your card is adorable and reminds me of a boss I had years ago who used to call people good eggs all the time so your card makes me think of her. Your little scene is so cute and I like the chickenwire background. Thanks for making my challenge shine this week and I hope that Mother Nature calms down the weather a bit for you!
Clean and simple perfection, Jaydee! This is such an adorable image with an adorable sentiment. It doesn’t get any cuter. I am so glad you escaped the ravages of the storms. I’ll never forget spending time in a motel bathroom with Nueve while on the show circuit. He was much calmer about it than I was. lol Have a wonderful week and stay safe!
Love your card! My set of this is labeled 2017 in my archives and it’s red rubber. If yours is wood, I bet that is even older. 🙂 Hugs and I am glad you are safe.
This is a set that won’t leave my stash, Jaydee, because it’s just so cute! I love how your brain went to “egg” ! And what a sweet little egg it is too, tucked inside the grass and flowers! Clever and creative
Jaydee, I admire your resourcefulness in coming up with this cute card for Christy’s theme! It “cracked” me up! And, I’m so glad you all survived the horrendous weather without damage. Tornados are terrifyingly devastating and that goodness you have a safe spot in your house.
Jaydee, I smiled when I saw this little egg–sure to bring a baby! Fabulous idea. The stenciling is the perfect background! CAS perfection and so creative! So thankful you are safe from the storm! Have a lovely weekend, My Friend!
I just love this card Jaydee! I still have that set (it was a keeper for me) although I haven’t used it in ages. I might get it out to recreate your card just for fun – I love that stencilled chicken wire background, genius!! CAS perfection! You really have had weather in the extremes – I saw the baseball-sized hailstones on the news – incredible!!
