I got to play in my craft room this weekend and played along with the Case this Sketch challenge:
It's a cool sketch and I decided to have some fun with a new stamp set I purchased called Tulips – from Altenew. Now…. many of you have probably already realized this, but I tend to be a very literal person and flowers only grow upwards – and that's how I place them on cards. Well, heck….. what's the fun in always being literal! So, I took a very different approach for this card – and felt really good that I had gotten out of my logical comfort zone – its the computer engineer in me…. way too literal! 🙂
Here's my take on the challenge:
Even though the Altenew layering stamps do a great job of adding detail, I did use my Copic markers to add more texture and depth to the shadowing on the tulips.
On a personal note:
Well….. it's official. Winter is on his way. How do I know this – aside from the obvious – like it's the middle of October? Well….. the Junco's arrived this weekend and we know that they are the official harbingers of winter for us. No escaping it now – unless we decide to move to warmer climes in the next couple of weeks!
@Gwendolyn asked me to share some photos of the winter/summer cushions and curtains in response to this post. I realized that I hadn't taken any photographs of our winter cushions last year…. don't know why I didn't! But I did find an old post on my blog that shows the curtains – and the first round of cushions that we had for winter back in 2013 – before we changed the wall colors! I change out the curtains to a wonderful deep red – and the cushions have red as the prominent color for fall/winter. For Christmas I add some Christmas specific cushions into the mix. This fall/winter – I found these gorgeous cushion covers at Pottery Barn here and here. But they are on back order until November! I'm going to see if I can get them in-store somewhere because I really do love them and think they will look good against the backdrop of the curtains – and the neutral of the couch.
Contrast that to spring/summer version – you can see the curtains change to a sage green – that matches the two chairs – and the cushions carry the same colors. I love the red framing the window in fall (as the leaves change color) and in winter as the trees lose their leaves and the snow falls on the ground.
In Spring/Summer – I love how the green frames the window and ties in with the green leaves on the trees and I love the feeling of lightness the curtains give to the room. the red curtains and cushions in winter help to bring the room in visually and make it feel warmer. Whereas in spring and summer I don't want to draw attention to the couch and curtains – I want the eye to naturally move outside to the view we treasure so much. So, Gwendolyn – I promise I will take more photos when the cushions arrive at our home and share them with you. But hope these two photos gave you a little taste of how it changes things anyway :-) Thanks for asking the question – I am ALWAYS happy to talk about interior design 🙂
All the trees we have planted on the northwest side of the woodland are coming into their fall colors. The Riverbirch are beautifully yellow and almost translucent. The majestic oaks are a gorgeous rusty/gold and the maples are just starting to turn red. I really can't believe how different that little spot of the woodland is now!
Love it! I'll be back tomorrow with another card and some more photographs. In the meantime, warm hugs and prayers for those of you who need a little lift tonight – and so glad to know that prayers were working for little Eva!

Tulip card is so pretty. I first seen that and thought; boy, ‘that’s different for Jaydee to do.’ Went a whole different direction which I like a whole lot.
Your card reminds me that I need to go out and buy some tulip bulbs and get them planted yet this Fall.

Hi Jaydee! Love your tulips! That’s a flower I tend to not stamp in Autumn or
Winter but I need to move past that and ink up my stamps! ; )
Your trees are just gorgeous, such a nice mix and variety. I can’t believe the Junco’s have arrived already, gosh, it seems too early!
Your two rooms look completely different. What a major impact curtain colors make! I realize your paint has changed but they really make all the difference. I love both looks, calm and peaceful in Spring and warm and cozy in Autumn. I hope you find your pillows!!
