Hi Everyone. Happy Tuesday night.
Tonight's card uses Studio Sketches and has a vintage meets CAS feel.
I used the sketch from the talented team across at stamping411 this week.
It's been a while since I have done a 411 sketch and really wanted to try to participate this week. The sketch is very adaptable and I had fun playing with it.
I love some of the new vintage looks, especially the warm colors, and am still trying to find ways to use vintage elements but with the CAS lines. I think this sketch really helped to keep the lines CAS, but allowed me to introduce some of those vintage elements… the warm, dark colors. The Log Cabin Smooch Spritz and Finial Press embossing folder. So here's the sketch.. and here's what I came up with
Card recipe:
- Card stock: Crumb Cake (previously known as Kraft), Early Espresso, Cajun Craze, Whisper White
- Stamps: Studio Sketches
- Inks: Cajun Craze, Pear Pizzazz, Old Olive, Sahara Sand
- Accessories: Chocolate Chip ribbon, dimensionals, Log Cabin smooch spritz
- Tools: Big Shot, Finial Press embossing folder, blender pens
Card instructions:
- Cut Early Espresso to A2 horizontal.
- Crumb Cake is cut to 4 x 5 1/4" and embossed using the Finial Press EF
- I used the Log Cabin Smooch Spritz to add the darker splotching to the Crumb Cake Layer.
- The studio sketches still life was stamped onto Whisper White card stock using Stazon
- I colored the image using Cajun Craze markers and classic ink
- the pears were stamped twice. I colored them using Pear Pizzazz and Old Olive markers and then snipped around them. I then put them over the top of the original stamped focal point and adhered them using dimensionals to give depth. I love the look of the popped pears.
- I wrapped the ribbon around the Crumb Cake layer and then adhered it to the Early Espresso using dimensionals.
- I adhered the focal point to the Cajun Craze (cut with my nesties deckled die) and placed it onto a piece of Early Espresso – also cut using the nesties deckled die). I adhered these layers over the ribbon using dimensionals.
Tips:
- I LOVE the dimensionals rather than the pop up glue dots, because they are just the right height. Glue dots give me a little too much depth when I'm working with layered cards like this
- If you want to take the vintage look even further… you can distress the edges of the Crumb Cake and color them with Early Espresso or Chocolate Chip Ink.
- You can also use a darker neutral to stamp the focal image on to
- You could fray the edges of the ribbon.
Well, I hope you like the card. I really do love this set.
On a personal note: It's freezing… yep… it's really cold… man… I have enough problems trying to regulate my temperature with my thyroid problem, without mother nature helping out. We went from REALLY hot and really humid to really cool. In fact, we have heard its going down into the 30s in norther Minnesota tonight! Brrrrrr
Oh yes…. and Jaydee is doing the happy dance…. ANOTHER parcel arrived today. So, big shout out to Janna for sending me cards for the OWH drive. Our card pile is getting really big and I am so excited. So, thank you Janna. You ROCK! My table in my stamping area is starting to overflow with cards. This really is so cool and I cannot thank you all enough.
Now… Missy….. to address your comment about feeling intimidated about sending in your cards… Beth is right…. we all have talent. Every single one of us has our own style of stamping and putting cards together and you know that someone posted overseas is going to fall in love with whatever you send. ( BTW Beth… I LOVE your cards!) Sometimes I visit sites and go… wow… I wish I could make cards like that….. so we all have those feelings of not being quite good enough. Everyone who has sent cards really does have a very different style and they are all great in their own way. So, please never feel that you can't participate. 🙂
Well, the new catty is almost upon us. I'm guessing that many of you will have had your own sneak peek by now. I am just finishing my customer care packets and looking forward to sending those out tomorrow.
Prayers for Trish, it's chemo day tomorrow, so she will need your prayers. For Germaine, Pri, T, Arthur, Missy and Rach. Tonight I'd also like to add Robin to the list. Robin, not sure if you are getting emails, but if you are…. prayers for you and good luck with Thursday.
As always, thank you so much for spending time in my little area of the stamping blogosphere. Thank you again to all of you who have sent cards – or who have cards on the way for OWH. Your support is greatly appreciated.
Have a fabulous Wednesday and I hope you get to spend time doing the things you love – with those you love the most.
Hugs
Jaydee

I am absolutely in LOVE with tonight’s Card! The colors just blow me away, such great choices. I also noticed that you used your Embossing Folder in two different ways, on the top you have the embossed side, and on the bottom half of the card you have the de-bossed side, a very interesting way of using the same folder on one card. I think that with the Smooch Spritz added to the background it really makes it look like real tile, especially the bottom half. I like this effect very much, and am going to have to keep it in mind for use on my own cards. I love your coloring of your focal image. That DVD, (which many of us are still waiting on the name of, by the way) must have done you quite some good, because it looks very professional indeed. That is what immediately caught my eye, was the way that the image was so well colored. Great job. I have to say that so far for me, this goes into the file as one of your better cards. For my liking anyway. I hope this is not one of your Troop Cards, this one absolutely MUST stay home and go to somebody very special. You have outdone yourself on this one, Jaydee.
On another note, Missy, please do not ever feel intimidated by anyone else’s work. It took me a very long time to be able to accept my own work and admire if for what it was. Yes, there are tons of people out there, Jaydee included who are much, much better, and more proficient at coloring, color coordinating, and Card Making than I am, but I just say…I will be that way some day if I keep on practicing. Each card is a practice card for me, and I get better and better with each one, never be afraid to try new technique’s, they will really surprise you. Give it a go, I have tons of faith in you girlfriend.
I have been so down and out of sorts that I haven’t even really made it all the way through the New Catty. I definitely don’t have an order ready to go on the First of July. I feel really guilty about this, everyone so excited and me just so-so, not being able to really enjoy this time of Celebration. I hope things turn around soon. I feel this is just a passing faze, as are a lot of other very strange things going on with me, especially what I have come to call “Chemo Brain”. Lol
Jaydee, I forgot to mention that I didn’t really care very much for this stamp set when I first saw it and I didn’t order it. Now that I have seen your cards, it is on my MUST HAVE list! I hope to be able to show you what I have done with it someday.
My personal Prayers and Well Wishes to everyone needing them for whatever reason you may have. I hope that you can draw on them and find some strength and peace.
Cyber hugs to Jaydee and All, Trish in Wisconsin
Beautiful card, Jaydee! You have done some wonderful things with this set. I love the vintage look. Being a relative newbie to your blog, I don’t know the answer to this…will there be another time to participate in OWH? And Missy, I have such an inferiority complex about my cards. I think that we are all our own worst critics. We fail to see the strengths and talents within ourselves:) (Oh, geez…I am sounding like a teacher again!) And Jaydee’s Trish…I will be thinking of you these next few days!
Beautiful coloring job on this one. I didn’t much care for this set when I saw it, but you’ve done a wonderful job on it.
My first comment when I saw your card was “Wow!” Love the image and how beautifully you colored it. I also love the embossing and “smooching” – it all ties together in such a pleasing way. It’s cooler here this morning but it feels good. Hope it doesn’t get down as cool as where you are – my tomatoes would not make it.
Hi Jaydee! This card is BEAUTIFUL! For some reason when I look at it I think of my Grandmother! I really can’t explain why but it does!
Thanks ladies for all the comments on my fears of sending cards! I can’t imagine any of you feeling that way! Like Jaydee, you ALL are so talented! That’s why I visit your blogs! You ALL are so sweet! It does make me feel better! I know it is too late to send them now but maybe next year I will get brave! LOL!
Trish- glad to see you commenting! And thank you as well for your so sweet comment! You know how I feel about you even though we have never met! I still think of you as MY HERO! You are one tough lady! I send you big hugs and prayers your way!
Prayers to ALL who are in need of them! Have a great rest of the week!
Gorgeous coloring, and everything else about this card too…love the layers, the colors, the touch of smooch spritz…LOVE it!!
Oh Jaydee, what a beautiful card! The embossing folder is just perfect for that set! I love the perfect bow of course too! Your color combos are always top notch! It must be an inborn talent to be able to match colors! You sure have talent!
I am glad you addressed Missy’s concern. We really all do have talent, just different styles! It would be boring if all the cards were the same style!
It’s cold in Ohio too! But sunny, so I am thankful for that!
WOW! Fabulous card. Your coloring, selection of the ribbon and embossing folder are all right on. Thanks for sharing.
You know, this stamp set really didn’t do too much for me when I saw it in the sneak peek. However, having seen EVERYTHING you’ve done with it, I’m in LOVE and wondering why I never saw the potential. The card is wonderful wonderful wonderful. I just LOVE Cajun Craze. :o)
Missy, yes, exactly what everyone else said! I too am intimated by others’ cards and feel mine are inferior. Ann hit the nail on the head. Everyone is their own worst critic.
Trish, prayers, many many prayers. And, prayers for everyone else on the list as well.
Happy Wednesday!
I don’t think I can find the right word to convey the noise I made when I saw this card. I think I maybe looked & sounded like one of those cartoon wolves who’s eyes bug out and make and ooo-gga horn noise! Jaydee this card is stunning! The colors, the embossing, the bow and your coloring are all perfect!!! You are such a bad influance, like Trish, I think I HAVE to have this set.
Trish, so happy to see your comment today. (it’s like bumping into an old friend at the grocery) Continued thoughts and prayers are coming your way.
Germaine, Arthur, Pri, T, Missy, Rach & Robin prayers for you as well. To One & All have an awesome Hump Day!
Jaydee,
I am so glad that you received my cards. I need to start on more for next year! I’m so glad that families for OWH and the kids continue with these projects, they are very special and touch our lives as well as theirs. You card today is very beautiful: vintage without being too vintage- in my opinion.
It’s even been cold down here in Texas (sadly, 80’s are considered cold in June). I hope y’all stay warm!
As always, thank you for your daily posts, they always give me something to look forward to!
Hugs,
Janna B.
RATS! now i NEED this set. When I first saw it, i was so utterly unimpressed with it. You are NOT helping my budget!!!! What a beautiful card.
STUNNING! This is one stamp I probably would have NEVER bought! However, after seeing what you do with it, I WANT IT! So very pretty. Love the whole “look” of this.
Lynn
Such a classy card! What did you use to cut the rectangles?
Adelle, I used the deckled rectangle nestabilities. These were cut from the large.

Explain to me how you colored this card. I’ve tried WW and watercolor paper. The pears seem to come out okay but the pitcher…. How did you get the shading? The Cajun Craze is so bight when applied with the marker. Did you use water to pull the colors out? When I used the watercolor paper the Cajun Craze pulls out pink. Love my new nestabilities. Thanks for the heads up on them
