Watercolor Dragonflies for Paper Players # 304 and Case this Sketch

Hi Everyone.  Happy Sunday.

It's my pleasure to host the Paper Players challenge this week and its a Clean and Simple technique challenge.

I recently purchased a dragonfly stamp that had both a large dragonfly and a small one and knew that I wanted to debut this stamp set for this challenge.  Looking at my card you might not think that this is watercolor – but it certainly is.

So, I had the CAS challenge, but was looking for a sketch and I found a perfect one across at Case This Sketch

I began by masking by masking off the horizontal layer and then set about randomly stamping the small dragonfly with Versamark ink.  I set that with white opaque embossing powder and then stamped the larger dragonfly with Stazon.  Then, I got out my new Kuretake watercolors called Starry Colors.  Oh, boy!  I am in trouble.  I am absolutely in love with this set of colors.  They are just gorgeous.  Take a look at how incredibly iridescent they are:

Isn't it gorgeous?  Seriously stunning!  Well, at least I think so 🙂

I then used by zig watercolor markers to color the large dragonfly.  All that was needed was to draw a black line under the horizontal layer, stamp the sentiment and adhere my dragonfly to the card base.

Here's my card:

The watercolor horizontal layer takes on slightly different colors depending on the light – and that's one of the things I love about them.  Now I need to see if they make these iridescent watercolors in other color families!

I hope you join us this week.  If you are looking for some inspiration, you have to look no further than the fabulous cards from our design team.

Our very own Sandy is the guest designer across at Case This Sketch, too and created an awesome card.

On a personal note:

It's been a very long week work wise – days with long hours.  However, I did get the weekend off and managed to get into my craft room yesterday and make a couple of cards and am heading back there today.  The postman is supposed to be delivering me some new goodies today (on SUNDAY!) and I am hoping to get some time to do some technique testing.

I did a little walkabout in the garden yesterday to try to capture some photos of the flowers that are making an appearance.  This little snapshot captures two different types of milkweed, blackeyed susan and coreopsis.  The butterflies have been enjoying the milkweed.

At the front the Echinacea are finally flowering.  The seeds they leave behind at the end of the season are much loved by the Goldfinches and the bees love them at this time of year.

I'll be back with another card tomorrow.  Hopefully Mr Postman will be arriving soon with my new goodies :-)  In the meantime, warm hugs and prayers for those of you who need a little lift tonight.   Especially my dearest Pammie.

Hugs

Jaydee

  1. WOW, Jaydee…..just WOW. I love how clean lined your design is even though it features watercoloring–which I usually see as a more mess,y fluid design element. Love the masked watercolor panel and your dragonfly looks like he just landed there from the purple coneflower! I’m off to google those gorgeous Kuretake watercolors now….

  2. OMG. Jaydee, that is Absolutely Stunning. What beautiful colors.
Thanks for sharing your lovely flower photos. Great shot of the bee on the cornflower. How pretty that would be framed or made and put on tile coasters
    Have an enjoyable week.
    Here in Texas we will be in the triple digits so going to be very, very Hot :{

  3. Such a beautiful card Jaydee! The watercolored panel is gorgeous and the neutral color just makes the blue dragonfly just pop off the page. Simply wonderful!
Love the pics and especially the happy coneflower and bee. Perfect garden picture to be framed for sure! Hope your work week is much less demanding and craft time is plentiful.

  4. Pretty dragonflies! I love seeing them buzzing around in real life too. Your card looks very elegant. I think it’s the simplicity of the design and the colors as well as the subject matter. Lovely!

  5. What a gorgeous card Jaydee – the shimmer on those iridescent watercolours is awesome! A fabulous CAS watercoloured card. Hope you had fun crafting with your new goodies!

  6. Gorgeous card, Jaydee! Your shimmery background is a perfect foil for your lovely dragonfly! Love all your nature shots too!
