White on White for Paper Players

Hi Everyone.  Happy Saturday.

The fabulous Sandy has a great challenge for us this week at the Paper Players.  As it is our final challenge of the year, we hope that you will play along with us.  

It was really tough getting a photograph of a white on white card!  It has lots of sparkle and shine, but I couldn't capture it in my light box and the weather was way too dull today to get a photograph.  So, I'm probably going to have to try to take it again tomorrow.  ETA… It was a beautiful, clear, sunny day – and I managed to get a better shot of my photo and updated my blog post.  However, I will tell you that I my breath was very evident all the time I was taking the photos!  it was COLD!  But, the photo is so much better, that it was definitely worth it!

I used a Memory Box Pine tree die to cut out the row of trees.  I then used some Tombow clear glue on the trees and along the bottom of the trees, along the die cut.  I then liberally sprinkled distress glue all over that area.

I stamped the Merry Christmas sentiment in StazOn black and backed the whole piece with double sided foam tape to make sure there was no "saggage".

All that was left to do was to prep the layer underneath.  I took out a Lawn Fawn stamp set that has tiny little snow stamps and stamped them with Versamark and Heat and Stick Powder.  I then sprinkled more distress glitter over the snowflakes.  Once that was dry, I adhered the sentiment/focal layer onto the base and the card was almost complete.

I die cut a snowflake and treated it with the same Versamark, heat and Stick and Distress glitter.  It was adhered with Tombo glue and a basic rhinestone was added for a little more shine.

The white on white looks beautiful, but it was pretty tough.  This card was my third attempt.  The first two didn't work because the white element just faded on the white base.  However, the efforts were not wasted as I will use them on other cards.

I really wanted to stay true to the white on white and only using color for the sentiment.  It took a little effort, but the card is really pretty and the challenge really got my creative juices flowing!

On a personal note:

Lou and I have been out and about quite a lot this past week.  We have been to see Philomena, the movie with Judi Dench.  We had an Evening with Michael Bolton and am pleased to report that he was absolutely fabulous in concert.  We then changed things up a little and saw Noel Cowards "Private Lives" at the Royal Opera House in London.  No, we didn't go to London, but watched it as part of the recordings broadcast in local theatres.  It was the best version of this play that I have ever seen. 

Then, we finished out the week by spending an evening with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra.  Now, I'd never heard of these guys, but saw that they were coming to town and that they had rave reviews, so decided to take a chance and book tickets.  It was AWESOME.  Nearly three hours of action packed music, lights, pyrotechnics and AMAZING musicians and vocalist.  Totally worth the time to drive there – and the cost of the tickets.  They really know how to put on a show.  The Target Center was packed to the rafters.   AMAZING.

We still have a couple of things lined up before the end of the year.  It's great to get out of the norm of daily routine and switch off.  It's also wonderful to have so many date nights with my honey, who travels so much.
