Dark and Dreary, Spooky and Creepy – Sneak Peek

Hi Everyone.  Happy Monday night.

OK…. So, I couldn't resit showing you a card using the new Dark and Dreary stamp set, along with the cobweb embossing folder.  Both of these things will be available in the new Mini catalog on September 1.

I love creating halloween cards, especially when I can add little things like sparkly – yet gloomy – candleabra, shiny spiders and really thick cobwebs!

Here's a close-up for you, so that you can see where I used my glitter pen… on the candle flame and on the crystals.

I stamped the candleabra image three times and then colored the image with Basic Grey, Crumb Cake and my glitter pen.  I distressed all the edges and inked them up with tea stain.  I used my new distressing kit to distress the card stock edges.

I also got out my embossing folder – and embossed the base card.   I stamped a spider – cut him out. … yep… cut all his legs out! and then glittered him up with some gel pen!

Here's the full card… I didn't think it needed a sentiment!

Isn't that cool…. Don't you just love the spider hanging off the edge?

I love this embossing folder and the Dark and Dreary set is too cool.

Card recipe:

  • Card stock:  Basic Black, Pumpkin Pie
  • Stamps:  Dark and Dreary, Bring on the Bats Wheel
  • Inks:  Basic Black, Basic Grey, Crumb Cake, Pumpkin Pie marker (for spider)
  • Accessories:  Cobweb embossing folder
  • Tools:  Paper Snips, glitter pen, dimensionals – each layer is raised

Card instructions:

  • Cut card base to A2 – 4 1/4 x 11 – score and fold on 5 1/2 – opening on the left
  • Run embossing folder and card base through Big Shot
  • Cut black layer to 3 1/2 x 2 1/2 – distress edges
  • Cut Pumpkin Layer to 3 1/4 x 2 1/4
  • Ink up candleabra stamp using Basic Black and stamp three times across the paper – using stamp-a-ma-jig for placement
  • Color in the candles in black and the candleabra in Basic grey.  I used crumb cake for the flames and crystals.   Use glitter pen to highlight the crystals and the flames of the candles
  • Stamp spider – color and cut.  Rub glitter pen on top
  • Adhere all pieces together using dimensionals.

On a personal note:

Shout out to Marge and Janna tonight… they both know why….. and a double shout out to Janna tonight as she let me know that she has already made 80 cards for the holiday card drive for Operation Write Home.  WTG Janna.

For those of you who are keeping track of Prince PipSqueak (aka Charlie), (aka King Arthur) – he is settling in very nicely thank you.  Even my grumpy old man has allowed him to settle in and pretty much just leaves him alone.  He is slowly learning to play with the others in "the circle" during play time and doesn't try to control "da bird" the whole time.  Occasionally, the kitten in him takes over and he can't control himself, but for the most part, he waits his turn at playing.  He is also learning when it is appropriate to love and is really starting to settle down.  He is less defensive now, so less hissing and nipping.  He is also starting to play like a kitten.  We would still like him to go to a wonderful home… but for now he's staying… Marge, I know that will make you happy!

It is still humid here…. man… I am so tired of the humidity and am really looking forward to cooler temperatures.   I did get to spend a little time stamping yesterday, but it was one of those slloooooowwww days… days where it seemed to take me forever to do anything.  Oh yeah…. and I spent ages making one card and boy…. is it a blooper.  I can't wait to share this one with you!  But that will be later in the week!

Lou is living it large down in Cordoba, Argentina.  I think this is his 3rd or 4th trip down to Argentina in the last 3 months.  He hasn't settled on the dates for Moscow and Paris yet, but I have decided not to join him.  The company puts him up in some fairly "interesting" hotels.  They are generally not in the nicest areas, etc.  Also, it means I have to work during the day, and then will be expected to be on conference calls in the evening…. so..I'm thinking no… as much as I would love to.

Trish, I am not sure if you are managing to get to blogs at anytime… but please know that you continue to be in my thoughts and prayers.  Germaine, you, too.   Continued prayers for Trish, Germaine, T, Pri, Arthur, John and Sue.

As always, thank you for your support, your visit, your comments – they are much appreciated.

I hope you all have a fabulous Tuesday

hugs

jaydee

  1. I love it Jaydee! The spider web looks so real especially with the spider on edge!
Prayers to all my cyber friends!

  2. I’m not a Halloween lover since our kids are older, married, and have children themselves “but” I love this card. It says what Halloween is about, creepy. I want to look inside and see a haunted house standing out or “Boo”. Nicely done, Jaydee. It stirs the imagination. Marge

  3. Cool card and even though I don’t like spiders, the one on the card is kinda cute!!

  4. Nice and creepy, Jaydee. Perfect for Halloween!
I had wondered if Prince P was going to wind up staying for a while…I once rescued a kitty and even though we weren’t supposed to have animals in our apartment, well, she stayed. Forever. :oP Sometimes things just work out that way, you know?
Prayers for continued safe travels for Lou, and prayers for all listed.
    HUGS!
