Designer Typeset for simply less is more and cas sundays

Hi Everyone.  Happy Monday!

Well, the weather was great over the weekend… got up to the mid-50s.  However, we are going down into the 30s again this week and, for something completely different, snow is on the way!

I saw two great challenges that I wanted to combine.  One a color challenge and the other a theme.

So… a thank you challenge from clean and simple sunday and a color challenge from less is more.   The color challenge was a great excuse to highlight one of my favorite retiring colors – Lucky Limeade.  I really LOVE this color and am sorry to see it go!

One of the trends I've noticed recently are arrows.  They seem to be everywhere, so I was thrilled when I noticed Stampin' Up! had released a new photopolymer (yeah… so glad they are going there!) stamp set called Designer Typeset and it had some arrows on it.  For this card, I decided to go with the larger, more graphic arrow.

I was really tempted to add white to this color scheme, but realized that lime and black together are a very strong combo and I wanted to really relish how fabulously they go together.

To add more interest, I used decided to use wet embossing, a die cut that was matt, some coloring and different typefonts for the "thank" and "you.

Isn't that a great color scheme?   Also, who doesn't need thank you cards on hand?  The great thing about this color scheme is that it will work for either gender and any age from teenage upwards. 

I stamped the arrow three times to highlight the "you" part of the sentiment.  I wet embossed the "thank" using black ink and clear embossing powder.   For some reason, I cannot make black embossing powder work for me.  I end up with black dots everywhere, so using a black inkpad and clear embossing powder gives me the best results.  Of course, I always rub my embossing buddy over the area I am about to emboss. 🙂

I knew that I would never have the patience to try to use my glue stick for "you" cut out, so I ran it through my sticker maker instead.  mmmm… great idea, but the sticker maker doesn't handle such intricate images too well.  I ended up running through a couple of different "yous" before I got it right.  But, I think it was worth it.

To add a little more weight to the arrows, I took a Copic marker (YG11) and colored in the arrows.  It keeps the lime color, but doesn't detract from the color scheme.  I really wanted to add pearls or something to it, but it just didn't look right.  Sometimes, it's best just to leave well alone and celebrate the clean and simple sentiment!

On a personal note:

I had a great weekend.  A much needed rest.   I felt a whole lot better going into work today :-)  It's rare that I get rattled and out of sorts, but last week just did it for me.  It's amazing how a couple of days away from it, spending time doing things I enjoy, can make the world seem a better place.  Soon we should be able to get out on the deck  and enjoy our view and I can't wait.

The landscapers will be in soon, too.  They will be doing a controlled burn of our woodland areas and the native plantings we added in the back yard last year.  Then, they will be planting new grasses, flowers and 300+ native shrubs to replace the buckthorn that we took out.  Getting the planting back to native species with food and shelter for the birds and smaller animals is key for us.  It's good for them, and we get the enjoyment of seeing them use the area to bring up their young.
