It's the fabulous LeAnne's turn to host our Paper Players challenge this week and she has a clean and simple with a twist.
Well, as you all know, I am never one to shy away from a clean and simple challenge:-) But, I wasn't quite sure where to begin making a CAS card for a child. Then… I remembered I had the Hero Arts OWH set and knew it was time to bring out my owl for a little inky love. When I opened up my stamp packet, I realized I had never used the cardinal-type bird and decided he would make a fabulous friend for the owl.
As this was designed specifically for a child, I wanted to make sure that I used some nice bright colors. Nance's challenge badge inspired me to make a balloon for the card. Here's my card:
Aren't they a cute pair? I think so. 🙂 I used Copic markers to color both of them and then used my clear marker to create patterns that I hope resemble feathers 🙂
I adhered them both to the card base with double-sided clear foam and used a Wink of Stella pen on the eyes of the birds, and on the balloon. You might also notice that the balloon has stars on it! I ran the balloon through my big shot with the new Stars embossing folder from the new SU holiday mini!
This card will be going into the 2014 card drive – details here and I hope it brings a smile to the face of a little one 🙂

On a personal note:
Lou and I were VERY excited to find that our local nursery actually does a "pick your own vegetables!" I can't believe that we have been visiting them for fresh veggies for the last few months and were totally unaware of this fact! They have nearly 200 acres of veggie patch and Lou and I drove around looking at all the wonderful veggies waiting for us. As we had already purchased our veggies before we found out this amazing fact, we drove around and decided we would go pick our own next week! There were fields of water melon, summer squash (with their flowers still in tact…. stuffed zucchini flowers, anyone?) Peppers, tomatoes, beets, fennel and corn. Oh.. and we watched one of the farm hands digging up potatoes. I swear, I was salivating at the thought of boiling those up and serving them with just a touch of butter.
There is something special about being able to pick your own vegetables. You feel more connected to the farmers – and to the land. It was great to see so many families with children picking out their veggies and putting them in a basket. We can't wait to go picking next weekend!
Well, I am off to go play with my new goodies from the new mini catalog. There are a couple of sets that I am desperate to ink up!

Very cute and cheerful card, Jaydee! I really like the texture of the tree branch and the colorfulness of the birds. :o) I can totally see the “feathers”! Excellent use of the clear marker!
Pick your own veggies? I think I’m a bit jealous! How delightful to be able to select that which will soon grace your table and fill your bellies!
