Happy Birthday to me. Happy Birthday to me!

Hi Everyone.

Thank you so much to all of you who have left me good wishes, sent me emails or birthday cards.  I'm so thrilled and honored that you remembered.  THANK YOU!!!!

I'm so sorry that I didn't post last night.  I wasn't supposed to be working, but did.. so we got going late and then I had a facial scheduled (wonderful, I might tell you) and then there was just enough time to rush back to the hotel room and change and head off to the symphony.  What a fabulous night!  A female conductor and she did just the most amazing job.  She was all of 5 foot in her heels, but man!  she controlled that orchestra and at the end of the final moment of Tchaikovsky's fourth symphony I was in tears.  Just beautiful.  This morning…. well, we finally got our lazy butts out of the bed at 10.15 am.  I never do that.. so that in itself was an amazing way to start our morning.

We are sitting in a local bookstore having brunch whilst I update my blog.  It's amazing, but I read many people's blogs or comments on social media sites who say they don't update regularly because they are busy.  I absolutely understand the busy thing.. but for me…. I realize how much I miss it when I can't update.  I enjoy hearing back from you all and I realize that it isn't the "me sharing my life" that I miss, but what I miss is hearing about yours.  So – a revelation I came to last night – it must have been the Tchaikovsky! 🙂

Before I get down to the card today… and NO.. believe it or not… today's card is NOT Ppa34a2closeup  from the awash with flowers set.  Although, that is proving to be one of my most favorite ever SU sets.  So, let's have a quick look at a closeup.  I used the layout from Palspaperarts.  Using a sketch designed by Margaret Moody.  Margaret is a very talented crafter who creates fabulous clean layouts.  Can you guess which set this is from?

I can tell you that I had great fun creating this card – especially when I combined it with the CAS challenge on splitcoaststampers to use green and brown.  Not colors I generally use, as my regular readers will know… but I have fallen in love with it.  For this card I used the very soft colors of Mellow Moss and Soft Suede.  I am really going to miss the in colors this year.  I've really grown to appreciate them in the last couple of months.

I did a slightly different variation of the card.  One card has the brads anchoring the sides of the card, the other is with the brads removed.  Either work for the sketch and I cannot make up my mind which I prefer.  So, I have included both.

Without the brads….

Ppa34a2

With the brads….

Ppa34a

I must tell you that the card is gorgeous in person.  It is soft and the image looks fabulous colored.

Card recipe:

  • Stamp set:  measure of a life (retired SU)
  • Card stock:  Mellow Moss, Soft Suede and Whisper White
  • Inks: Black StazOn, Soft Suede, Mellow Moss
  • Ribbon: Soft Suede polka dot
  • Big Shot with polka dot texturz  plate for the card base and the perfect polka dots embossing folder for the middle piece.  Why so many dots… well, I wanted to pick up the dots from the wings of the moth.  I also took my sanding block and gently sanded the card base to get the dots to stand out a little more

I started by stamping the image in StazOn in Whisper White. I then took my Mellow Moss marker and colored in the wing closest to the camera, using very light strokes.  I then took my marker, dipped it in a little Shimmer Paint and then into Soft Suede ink.  I lightly colored over the wing closest to the camera – over the Mellow Moss.  That gave me just the right amount – and color – of coverage that I needed to bring the colors together.  The shimmer paint also gave a slight luminosity to the wings – typical of moths.

For the other wing, I used just my Soft Suede ink and marker and very lightly colored in the wing.  It gives a Green-browny color to the wing.

I love the card – it was a great layout – and I am so pleased that I took the challenge to use green and brown.

Tonight I have a couple of shout-outs.

Adelle:  welcome to baby Jack!  I'm so happy for you all, my friend!

Germaine: I hope you have a much better day tomorrow.  I'll be sending positive thoughts your way. Trish: I hope your day at the hospital was successful, even though it was long.  To

Dawn-Marie: – you can case my cards anyday.  Pop along to this link to see Dawn's fabulous creation inspired by my square Awash with Flowers card. I always love to see what others do with something they have seen on my blog.

Cherie:  I hope you and Mr J had a weekend full of connections, love and great times

Beth:  I hope you and your daughter continue to have a weekend full of laughter, love and times not spent watching the clock

Robin:  for sharing the story of your gg grandfather – I still have amazing visuals from your story and for introducing me to Bev – Bev you are amazing!

My darling Lou…. thank you for everything!

To all of you – for supporting me and making blogging so much fun.

On that note, I am off to do some shopping… or should I say… we are off to do some shopping… Me shopping and Lou pulling out his credit card.  Oh! I love those kinds of days.  After that, it's back to the hotel for pedicures then off to Orchestra Hall to see the Preservation Hall Jazz band!  What a way to spend my birthday.

To all of you… thank you so much for spending time in my little area of the stamping blogosphere.  Your visits are always appreciated.  Have a fabulous day filled with love, laughter and plenty of time to do the things that make you happy.

Remember… send a card to brighten someone's day… just because you can.

Hugs

Jaydee

  3. Both of your cards are gorgeous, Jaydee! I love the colors and the butterly is just stunning! Great job with the challenge! Hope you had a great birthday, too!

  4. Happy Birthday to You…Happy Birthday to You…Happy Birthday Dear Jaydee…Happy Birthday to You! You can just pretend that you can hear me singing it, and if you like I also have a Conductor and Orchestra! It sounds like you are off to a wonderful Birthday weekend, full of fun, love and dreams come true. Hi Lou, it’s nice to see you post, and err, can you maybe adopt me? There is pretty much in the New Mini that I like too! Tell me…should I email you or just send you off my list with the items circled? Gee, thanks so very much!!! No really, it is good to hear from you, I am glad that you were able to make Jaydee’s Birthday one to remember. You two have so much love together, you were just meant for each other.
On to the Card of the Day…Wonderful colors for the subject. But then you do have that talent, of picking colors to match your subject. I really do like the Stamp and am now going to have to go on the hunt for it. Love both Cards equally, can’t pick one over the other. You did a fantastic job with the coloring of the Moth, and the whole Card has such a calm and serene feeling to it. This is one that I would love to receive, hint hint. lol. Another exlemplary (sp) job done once again. Hope you have a wonderful rest of your Birthday Weekend, and that you enjoy every minute of it. May you and Lou always be as Blessed as you are now.

Enjoy your day, week, month and year! Happy B-day to a Special Lady!
