High Tide for Paper Players #647

Happy Sunday.

An oldie, but a goodie for today’s LeAnne’s theme challenge for the Paper Player’s this week. I don’t get to use this set often and, when I do, always wonder why I don’t use it more often!  I paired the retired High Tide set with the Twisted Rope embossing folder.

Here’s a sneak peek:

Of course, because it is coming up to 4th of July, I absolutely had to use red, white and blue as my main colors!  I stamped the image of the lighthous and the outcrop and then masked the lighthouse so that I could add the seagulls.  I actually ended up making this twic.  Why?  Because I realized that having loud music on and signing along to Rolling in the Deep with Adele tended to make me lose focus!  I did the whole front panel and the last thing I needed to do was add the seagulls.  Which, I did, very successfully masked I might add.  Except?  I stamped them flying upside down and I thought it might be something that someone noticed!  So, reluctantly, I turned off Adele and redid the card in peace and quiet – totally focused on what I was doing!

I did stamp the right hand side of the outcrop in a slightly darker brown to look as though the lighthouse was casting  shadow, but I think I should have gone just a little darker.  Once the elements were stamped, I blended some blue sky using a blending brush.

On a personal note:

Well, yesterday was quite an adventure.  Our ship did come into port very late – 8 hours late.  We arrived at our designated embarkation time and it took us over 4 hours standing in queue ater queue after queue to get on the ship.  And we were in priority!  It was well past 10.15 pm when we finally boarded and there were still people boarding after midnight!  Lou and I were grateful that we had decided to come into New York the night before so that we didn’t leave home at just before 3am.  If we hadn’t done that it means that we would have left home before 3am and not arrived on board until 19 hours later and we were only going from Minnesota to New York!

One of the bummers about getting on the ship so late was the view we had from our cabin.  It was spectacular as we were looking back to Manhattan from Brooklyn Bridge and we could see so much.  I did manage to get a couple of good shots of the nightscape with my iphone though.  Sadly, not great…. but you get the general idea!

Ellis Island and Lady Liberty were really well lit up, but we were just too far away for me to get a great show with my old camera.  I’ve also been really interested in Ellis Island and what it meant to American immigration.  However, it was only when I found out that one of myu 3xgreat-grandparents and 2 of their 7 children migrated from the UK in 1862 that it took on a whole different personal connection.

She really is magnificent and I love how pink the sky was on the right hand side.  It really is an amzing city!
