Home for Christmas – and my bow making video unveiled!

Hi Everyone.  Happy Sunday.

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend.  I was in the Christmas mood this weekend and managed to make a couple of Christmas cards for challenges. Tonight's card uses the sketch from the talented team across the pond at Waltzingmouse.  In fact, I used one of the waltzingmouse stamps that work beautifully with my nestabilities die!  I did make a small change to the sketch, I turned it on the horizontal instead of the vertical.  Don't forget to pop along to see what the talented DT has created for you.

I also…. yes…. I did…. I really did… this one is for you, Beth… I made a bow making video!  Now…. this is only my second video… so you are going to have to bear with me, as it is not without bloopers (err more than 1!); my voice is really croaky; and … I forgot to turn on the lamp on the right hand side of my desk – so it kind of looks like the Dark Side of the Moon.  (one of my favorite Music CD's btw!)  However, I remember being told by my mother – and my teacher's – practice makes perfect.  I doubt that my videos will ever be perfect, but hopefully they will get better.

Before getting to the card and the video…. I'd like to do a shout-out for Sue.  Sue celebrated her 67th birthday on September 8.  Happy Birthday, Sue.  I hope you had a wonderful day with John and your friends.  Sue is an amazing lady and a very talented crafter and you can find her blog here BerkerBlog.  Sue is one of our regular commenters, so, please leave her a little love and say Happy Birthday, Sue!

Here's my take on the waltzingmouse sketch challenge.

  Waltzingmouse (1)

Card recipe – all products Stampin' Up! unless otherwise specified:

  • Card stock:  Very Vanilla, Cherry Cobbler
  • Stamp Sets:  Home for Christmas (sentiment), Peaceful Season (holly), Vintage Labels 10 (Waltzingmouse)
  • Ink:  Cherry Cobbler, Always Artichoke (holly)
  • Accessories:  Very Vanilla Satin Ribbon; Dazzling Diamonds embossing powder (holly), Gold Elastic cord, Regals Buttons
  • DSP:  Jolly Holiday
  • Tools: Nestabilities labels 10, Big Shot

I love the look of the Vintage Label stamp with the Nestabilities Label 10.  It really helps to …well…. frame… the sentiment and give it more presence!  The embossed holly leaf is really pretty in real life.  I wanted to shine the light on it more than normal, so that you could see it shimmer.  The little pop of green bling helps to lift the colors.

THEN….. FOR BETH……Tonight I show you how to do the ribbon treatment – and the bow – from last week's Paper Players challenge card.  So…. with lots of fanfare, trumpeting, drum rolls and everything else you can imagine…. here is my first

Bowtying

On a personal note:

Today, the weather is just about perfect.  It did reach 80 degrees, but the humidity did not get over 50.  There was a slight breeze and it was glorious.  The leaves are starting to turn, so it should only be another couple of weeks before we see a great display of color.

Poor little Charlie…. the dumped kitten that Lou rescued a few weeks ago….. ah.. yes.. talking about Charlie…. remember he was living in the bramble bushes when we picked him up.  Well, I'd like you to take a look at the photograph I took of him yesterday whilst I was stamping.  He is usually somewhere close by where ever I go.  The red couch in our basement is his favorite haunt when I am stamping.

Charlie (3)

Errr….. think he's comfortable?  Seriously, how did he get into that position.  However, he got there… he was comfortable and FAST asleep!

Prayers tonight for Bob and Nichole (Trish's DH and DD), Germaine, T, Pri, Arthur, John and Sue, Lesley and Cyrus.

As always… thank you for spending time in my little area of the stamping blogosphere.  Your visits, your support and your comments are greatly appreciated.  Don't forget to say Happy Birthday to Sue!

I hope you all have a fabulous Monday.  One filled with love, laughter and time to spend doing the things you love.  As Trish reminded us on her last post…. we should all be glad and joyful for what we have.

Hugs

Jaydee

  1. So pretty Jaydee! love the colors and your layered nesties framing your sentiment! The lovely leaf adds just that right touch of color and shimmer! Thanks for playing with WMS this week!

  2. Happy Birthday Sue!!! Thank you Jaydee for showing us via the video on how to tie a bow. Now I can practice and make some nice bow. Love the card, the shimmery leave, and the vintage label. And of course, the bow. Perfecto. As you said in many previous blogs, hug someone because you can. Hugs to you Jaydee, Bob, Nicole, Sue, and all.

  3. First of all – thank you SO MUCH for the “shout out”! That was kind of you. Next – love this gorgeous card. Am tucking away the design ideas for when I ever get back to making cards. Third – so glad to see a photo of Charlie, happy in a loving home. And lastly – LOVED your video. Great video. You tie your bows like Dawn Griffith does – I’ve tried that way but you do it better, for sure. Loved your editorial remarks on the video – you actually did an awesome job on it.

  4. First off, Happy Birthday, Sue! :o) I hope you are able to get some stamping time soon. You and your hubby have been in my prayers.
Next, Jaydee, love the card. The colors, the Nesties working so beautifully with the stamp, everything. :o)
Third, the video–WONDERFUL! :o) Thank you for taking the time it took to film, edit etc. I know it’s no easy feat and that it eats a ton of time.
Finally, have you reverted to calling Prince P “Charlie” once more? He is one funny kitty. BTW, do you ever play over at icanhascheezburger.com? I think you would enjoy it. :o)

  5. Happy Birthday Sue!
Great video. I now know that all I have been missing is PATIENCE. That’s encouraging. Thanks for spending the time to do this for us. How about one showing how you made the lovely flower on the “Baja Wedding”?
Today’s card was gorgeous. I swear you are making me a Nestabilities junkie. My collection is growing and the more I use them the easier it gets.
    BTW I love your manicure!

  6. Wow! You are getting pretty good with your videos! Thanks so much for sharing this with us. I need to watch it again with the satin ribbon in my hand and go along with you. Beautiful bow! I guess I learned also that patience is a virtue when making bows!
I love today’s card too–you make me think that I need to start buying Nestabilities! Can you tell me a bit about them? I have a Cricut, so I could cut shapes, etc, what is the advantage of the Nestabilities?

  7. Great video. Now if I can just follow the directions. You are a natural doing the videos. Love that accent. Keep them coming.

  8. Jaydee, I LOVE your video! It’s only your second one and now you’re a PRO!!! Thanks for the tip on making it look like that ribbon goes all the way across the card, under the focal panel, etc! When I first became a demo, I would have to have a friend who is really good with ribbon at all my stamping events! Poor girl! Well, she tied my daughters’ Polly Flinders dresses in the back, so it makes sense she should help my customers tie their bows as well!! 🙂 Well, what I learned from her is that all is not lost if you don’t like the first try – you have to PLAY with your ribbon and that’s the answer. Love your bunny ears technique – I’ll have to try that.
Can you email me Trish’s family’s address??
As far as your future videos go, I just love watching people stamp, so it doesn’t have to be anything elaborate for me!! I would love to see how you made the Winter Post card, though!
    Thanks,
    Soozie
