Hi Everyone. Happy Saturday. I hope you are all having a great weekend.
It's the fabulously talented Sandy's turn to host our Paper Players challenge this week and she has this really cool sketch for us.
Now, as Lou and I were driving around and looking at houses we could never afford to buy unless we won the lottery :-), I had time to think about this sketch. Once I realized that I owed Lou a card to thank him for making my birthday into an entire long-weekend celebration, the sketch fell into place and I knew exactly what I wanted to do.
On the online card class we have been covering one layer cards and die-cuts. I know this card isn't a one-layer card, but I was inspired by die-cuts and using them to create shapes on the card. All I needed was a sponge, some ink a couple of die cut hearts, a sentiment and a couple of candy dots.
Here's my card: 3/23 – ETA to change the photo. I noticed that I took the photo with the wrong light setting and it looks more early espresso and very vanilla, so changed out the photo… it's really much more black, red and white 🙂
I really like the way it came out. I picked up the hearts on sale at my local craft store and have had them in my stash for quite a while. I used one of them as the die-cut and then colored another one with the same color ink and mounted it between the sponged hearts. The sentiment is from a Hero Arts Operation Write Home set that I got to make OWH cards! However, it was perfect for this card. Simple. To the point. With a clean type-face. All I needed to do was use a few old candy dots to continue the red and black theme.

Lou has spoiled me rotten these last couple of days. Not only did we go out for an amazing 8 course tasting menu dinner on Thursday, on Friday he took me for breakfast at Starbucks, took me shopping at Pottery Barn, walked around Parade of Home houses with me, then surprised me with some spa treatments (oh…. so good….) and then whisked me off for an early dinner yesterday.
He also patiently went around some more houses today even though it was 1 degree above zero and I know he would much rather have been painting 🙂
Actually, we both love looking at the houses on the parade. It's always interesting to see what the builders are putting into houses and how little one gets for one's money these days! We both agreed that even though we looked at houses nearly 6x times what we paid for our house… we wouldnt give up the house – or the view – even if we could afford the ridiculously high prices!!!! So, as nice as some of the finishes are on these houses, we cannot beat our view and how wonderfully quiet it is. We both came home feeling especially blessed.
Luckily, the in colors seem to be 50 shades of grey – luckily, Lou had already painted the majority of the house that color way back at the beginning of last year… so, he sighed a sigh of relief knowing that there wasn't a chance I was going to change my mind again 🙂
Well, we are off for one last little piece of celebration, and then it's back to normal duties like house-work, laundry and dusting tomorrow! Oh… and I do hope to get into my craft room to play along with some challenges, too.
Oh… one last thing….. Terri you asked me what I meant by Eclipse Masking tape, which I used on this card. Here's the link to this amazing "stuff". Although they are currently out of stock at SSS, at least you can see what it looks like. There are also a couple of videos showing how you can use it – just google judikins eclipse masking sheets.

What a beautiful love note for your sweetie! I really like the combination of the negative space hearts with the die cuts. The candy dots are the perfect finishing touch. :o)

Hi Jaydee, it sounds like you had a lovely birthday celebration and you were able to do some wonderful things. If we only had pottery barn … sigh … I had to shake my head at your comment re: how much (or little) you get for your dollar for new houses. Where I live, we have been in the midst of an economic boom for about 7 years now and what used to cost about $100K now starts at about $350K and up. Same house, incomes are just a little higher, have to shake your head. Anyways, from the photos you’ve posted of your house, it is truly lovely and a keeper. Just like Lou! Oh, and p.s., yet another lovely card. And finally, thanks very much for the information on the eclipse masking – i am off to check it out!
Jaydee, Happy Birthday! Sorry to not say it sooner, I’ve been off the computer lately engrossed in demo work for our new kitchen. So happy for your celebrations all weekend long. What a great guy you have!
I love your sponged hearts. That is very cool. You always amaze me with your one layer (or two in this case) cards. Lou is lucky to have someone who appreciates him and tells him so. Have a super week!
