Medallion Snowflake for the Paperplayers

Hi Everyone.  Happy Saturday night.

I hope you are all having a fabulous weekend.  For us… blizzards, lots of snow, freezing rain, sleet, rain and more snow.  It is so bad that the snow plows have been pulled off the roads.  Luckily for us, the storm front moved a little further north and we are only expecting about 12 inches.  Further north, they are expecting up to 20".  We were due to drive to Minneapolis tonight for the concert at Orchestra Hall – Handel's Messiah.  We had bought tickets months ago and were really looking forward to it.  However, its 80 miles there and 80 miles back.  We had already decided it was a no-go when I checked and found that the concert had been cancelled.  So, we get to stay home in front of the fire instead!

Lesley's challenge for us this week at the Paper Players was to choose our favorite color combo for cards.  For me, I love using Night of Navy, Whisper White and Metallic Silver for Christmas cards.  I love the usual reds and greens, but somehowmanage to throw in some blue and white cards.  There is something crisp and clean about the color scheme that really appeals to me.  I find it a welcome change from the warms of the reds and greens.  You really need to pop along to see the wonderful inspiration cards the design team have come up with.  The team really has outdone themselves this week.

This card was perfect for the CARDS challenge, too.  The challenge was to create a Christmas card that did not have red or green!  Perfect for me this week!

You can see that I put my medallion stamp to good use again.  I really cannot understand how I did without it all this time!  This time I used it as a snowflake.  I also used the Christmas Collage background stamp – the 25 – and, of course, I couldn't say no to some Basic Rhinestone bling!

Card recipe:

  • Card stock:  Night of Navy, Whisper White, Metallic Silver
  • Stamps:  Medallion background stamp (115223), Christmas Collage (121279), sentiment is from the Contepo Christmas set (118734 – wood or 120594 clear)
  • Inks:  Encore Silver with Silver embossing powder.  Versamark with White embossing powder
  • Accessories:  Basic Rhinestones, White Organza Ribbon
  • Tools: 1 3/4" punch for the "25", stampin dimensionals

On a personal note:

I did get to spend some quality time in my stamping space today.  The weather wasn't conducive to doing much else.  Except, we made a very quick trip to a new supermarket in town.  So new, in fact, that we hadn't visited it before!  Actually, I had never heard of it, but others told me I would like it.  So, off we went.  I have to tell you….. it was pretty good.  Trader Joe's is its name.  Some of you may have heard of it.  It was wonderful to be confronted with organic food, lots of great vegetarian choices and good prices.  I bought some vegetarian French Onion soup…. oh boy… was that the ticket for a blizzardy day!  It was fabulous.  Tonight we are doing something we do exceptionally rarely…. a cheese fondue with baguette and fresh vegetables.  Yep, just the thing to have for dinner in front of the fire!

Oh…. and I think I may have fixed the video issue!  I shall be doing a quick post tomorrow night with some pics of the snow in our garden and a link to the video.  I'd like you to try it out – especially those of you who were having trouble with the video.  I tried it with Mozilla and Safari and it worked.  I just have to try it with Internet Explorer.

Additionally, I will be announcing a blog candy challenge.  Yep… you can win some blog candy.  For a Stampin' Up! set that isn't available for another 3 weeks.  So, don't forget to pop back tomorrow to see what that is all about.

Shout out to Linda tonight – welcome to my blog and thank you so much for your comment today

Prayers tonight for

  • For Soozie…. my heart aches for you, my friend.  She knew that you were there at the end.
  • Adelle – you have been in my thoughts all day, my friend
  • Lesley, who lost her very precious pet Cyrus.  For many of us our pets are a major part of our family and my heart goes out to Lesley and her husband.
  • Rach, who lost her precious Waylan tonight.  I will always remember him catching rays from the sunshine in front of the door.
  • Rose, who is trying to maintain her composure, her strength and her sense of humor amidst the radiation and other side effects she is having.  When asked by her doctor how she was coping.. her response.. "Well, I am trying to keep abreast of things!"  For a woman of nearly 90 with breast cancer… I thought that was pretty cute.
  • For Pammie.  I know this is so tough for you… but I am there with you in spirit.
  • For Germaine, Pri and Arthur.
  • For those of you who need a little lift.

Have a wonderful evening everyone.

Hugs

Jaydee

  1. Oh! Your blog is so festive! :o)
I too love Night of Navy, Whisper White and silver for Christmas cards. This one is just lovely.
And, may I just say how excited I am for you that you now have a TJ’s? Is it not wonderful?!? :o)
My heart caught when I saw Lesley had lost Cyrus, because we lost sweet Waylen this evening. I took him in and our vet helped him find peace once more.
My prayers for all you listed. Losing a loved one is so very hard.
That Rose is a hoot, and certainly trying to hold on to her sense of humor. That will hold her in good stead as she continues on her journey.
Hugs to everyone–I hope you are having a wonderful weekend. :o)

  2. Beautiful card! I love Night of Navy too! I just made a Christmas card last night using that paper & serene snowflakes stamp set and the new rhinestone jewels! Unfortunately, I don’ have the Medallion stamp set. I always have a problem of getting the whole stamped image on my paper! But you did an awesome job Jaydee!
Huge hugs & prayers to all who have losted a loved one and to those who are in need!

  3. You have made me a “medallion” lover. I bought this stamp long ago and have used it once. I think it is time to pull it out again! Love the colors.
I love to shop at Trader Joe’s. Can’t imagine you have never shopped there. Try their bread, frozen foods, candy, cookies… Actually I have never had a bad product!
So sorry to hear of pet loses. They do become such a part of our lives. Who would I talk to without the understanding and non-judgmental dog? I love the fact that they will listen but never respond-helps me sort out what I am really thinking!
Enjoy our snow. Hope you don’t have to shovel out!

  4. Lovely card Jaydee…you are making me want the Medaltion Stamp. Prayers for all that are in need . . . thanks so much for sharing with us.
Raining in Ohio and storm coming this way. Not looking forward to it.

  5. Beautiful card Jaydee, as always! I haven’t been blogging for a while and am missing it desperately to particpate some of the challenges. Looking forward to see more cards from the upcoming mini.

  6. Wow! This is a gorgeous card! You are making me want the medallion stamp!
I love Trader Joe’s, but do not have one nearby. Enjoy the fire and the yummy sounding food.

  7. Just stunning, Jaysee! This is a gorgeous mix for holiday cards that I have never tried. I especially love the “ring of bling” you added to the center, that stopped me in my tracks!
I love Trader Joe’s! I wish we had one here, until then Whole Foods woks for us. Sounds like a wonderful dinner you had on a snowy night.
I will keep everyone you listed in my thoughts and prayers, I don’t ever think anyone can ever have too many prayers, that’s for sure.
    Have a wonderful day! 🙂

  8. Great colour choice Jaydee. I love this one too! You did a wonderful job. Love the stamps you used and how you combined them and the rhinestones were the perfect touch!
