It's my turn to host the Paper Players Challenge this week and I have a color scheme for you.
I had something entirely different in mind when I came up with these colors many months ago, but I needed an invite for P&J and R&R who are coming to celebrate with us.
When I saw the new stripes and dots mask in the new SU catalog, I thought it would be a great thing to add to my order, especially at a cost of only $2.95. It was the first thing that came to mind this morning when I was contemplating my invite. There is also a hearts and stars mask, which I thought might work, but the stars were just a little too big for my purpose, so I had to make do with another stencil that I had.
I had such fun sponging Real Red onto Whisper White card stock to create the stripes, but really struggled with the white stars on Night of Navy. I tried 7 different times to get this part right. In the end, I think it works. :-) When I showed the card to Lou, the first words out of his mouth were, "…that's not the right number of stars!" My response: "Really, Sherlock. I hadn't noticed!" Actually, I'm only 6 short, so could probably have added them if I had wanted to. But.. having spent nearly 2 hours trying to get it right, I decided it was intended to be representational, not an exact replica and that I am sure my dear friends would understand 🙂
Anyway, here's my card:
I needed a way to draw more attention to the sentiment and remembered that I had these cool paperclips from my new Basic Hodgepodge Clips. I thought the brass star clip was perfect:-)
Of course, I had to finish the rest of the invite – so I opened up my trusty MDS and created this:
I added a little glimmer with my wink of stella pen on the fireworks, which were created from the digital Green Tea flower stamp set. I know it's supposed to be a flower, but I think it works really well as a firework. 🙂

On a personal note:
Well, having been in the high 70s and 80s and sunny, it was a bit of a shock when the temperature was less than 60 as a high and it rained for most of the morning! I'm totally loving all of this water in the wetland, but it is making it impossible to get our spade-in trees into the garden. The spader is so heavy, especially with such large trees, that it's going to sink too deep with the garden as wet as it is. We really aren't sure when it is going to get dry enough for the trees to come in! We are really hoping that he might be able to get them in next week. Once those are in we can more of the landscaping.
I wanted to share a couple more photographs with you tonight.
One of my favorite bird sounds in summer is this "mew call" of the catbird. It reall does sound like a kitten calling. I was outside yesterday talking with the landscaper when I heard the call and he flew into have lunch at the feeder.

A couple of days ago I walked out on to the deck to get a little Vitamin D during conference calls, looked over the railing of the deck and saw something black moving along the grass at a cractking pace towards the underdeck. I knew that it was grass cutting day around us, so rushed in to ask Lou to come and do a turtle rescue. Many of my old blog readers may remember the story of Lou and the snapping turtle rescue. If you haven't read it, you can read about it here
As Lou is our resident turtle rescuer, he rushed down the stairs and managed to divert the turtle back into the wetlands. I was delighted to see him the next day, happy as… well… a turtle… sunning himself on the log.
Doesn't he look happy? He was there yesterday, too. I haven't seen him today. That might be because we haven't seen any sun!

Great looking invitation card and very much fitting for the 4th of July which will be here before we know it. I think the older we get, the faster the time flies bye.
Lou to the rescue. Way to go Lou for saving ‘Bone-Cracker’ the snapping turtle.

I had the same thought . . . as Lou. I said: “Some stars are missing” . . . the question is: “which are missing???”.

First, I have to chuckle as I remember Lou rescuing that snapping turtle…what a story! :oP Your little turtle friend is delightful. :o) And, that catbird…lovely. My grandfather used to call us catbirds–I have no idea why. Hm…;o)
Your card is delightful, Jaydee, missing stars or not. Which reminds me, I need to add that star mask to my order as well. :oP
