One card – 2 ways

Hi Everyone.  Happy Wednesday night.  I hope you all having a fabulous week so far.

I have a little something different for you tonight.  I created a card for the stamping411 challenge this week.  The talented design team have provided us with a fabulously simple and versatile layout and I couldn't wait to play with it.  In fact, this week, I might actually get to submit a card for the challenge before the closing time!

I made two cards.  One a more simple version and the other one taken up a notch with a little bling.  Both use the same colors, but take on entirely different hues.

I really enjoyed playing around with the sketch, so why don't you pop along to the site and check out the inspiration and submission cards.

Here's the first version of the card.

411version 1

I love it…. What was my inspiration?  The swallowtail butterflies that have been attracted to our bird and butterfly garden this year.  They are so big and so beautiful, that when I stamped this image Lou suggested I really color it in yellow.  The image is not Stampin' Up! but the rest of the supplies are.

As much as I love this card and think it works for the layout of the challenge, I wanted to take it up just a little bit.  I wanted to make the central image richer and the background more subtle.  So I stamped the same image – only this time in black and colored it using almost the same colors.  I just changed up the red/orange a little.  The background card stock changed and voila – an entirely different feel.

Here's version 2 – with a little bit of bling.
411version 1 (1)

You can see that the layout is the same, the image is the same.  I changed out the background DSP and made the color on the hindwing of the butterfly a richer color than on the original.  This time I used Cherry Cobbler.  The background card stock and the ribbon are also Cherry Cobbler.  The shiny brad is from the new Mini catalog and I just love them!

I stamped and colored the image and then stamped Versamark all over the focal image and embossed it with Iridescence Ice embossing powder and heat set it.  It made the colors much richer and the bling makes the card feel even more special.

I've put the recipe for both cards at the bottom of the post for you.

On a personal note… still hot and very, very humid.  With the heat indices it was 105 yesterday.  We have been promised cooler weather this coming weekend.  YAY!  I hope you are having decent weather where you are!  Charlie (the kitten we picked up last week) is staying with us for a little longer.  The local shelters are all overflowing with animals and they are placing on average 1-2 juvenile kittens a week.  Which may sound a lot, but considering there are over 50 in the network – and getting more every week – it's going to be tough to find a home for little Charlie.  He really is the cutest little thing.  I just wish we knew where he had come from.  Certainly no-one has reported him lost.  So, for now, we continue to house him in the garage and the laundry room.  He goes in to be neutered next week and then hopefully we can begin looking for a home for him.

Prayers tonight for Trish, Germaine, Arthur, T, Pri, Angela, Missy's family and Hugo.

I hope you all have a fabulous Thursday and… as always… thank you for spending time in my little area of the stamping blogosphere.  Your visits are always much appreciated.

Hugs

Jaydee

  1. Oh, both cards are lovely, I love butterfiles, so I am really loving these cards! TFS, and prayers and hugs to all that need it! Hugs to you too Jaydee!

  2. I don’t know why, but that top card with the Poppy Parade really calls to me. I guess it’s the bright, cheerfulness. Although…that bottom one is beautiful as well. :o)
My fingers are crossed we both get our cooler temps. The humidity is about to do me in. UGH!
Oh how I wish I could just come and get Charlie. Lily loves kitties more than anything in the world. It’s such a shame people don’t spay and neuter and the shelters wind up overflowing. :o(
Prayers, as always, for one and all.
    HUGS!

  3. Fantastic! I appreciate you showing us how just a couple of little tweeks can make such an impact. You know, Bling is just like nuts, some days you feel like a bling and sometimes you don’t!
I have been telling everyone who will listen about Charlie, he is just too handsome to ignore. I just know he’ll find the perfect home soon.
Prayers and well wishes to those cyberfriends in need. Keep cool and have a fantastic day One & All!

  4. Both cards are beautiful! But I think I like the 2nd one the best! Huge hugs & prayers to ALL my cyber friends!

  5. Can I just say WOW! Your butterfly cards are gorgeous. And your coloring is superb. Such a good job.

  6. These are awesome Jaydee…LOVE the colours and the image. I love both cards…the glitter is so pretty…really stands out! I was playing with this DSP last night too! SO funny!
    Hugs to you my friend!!
    Lesley 😉

  7. Oh, how I like them both. Each has its uniqueness. The butterfly is gorgeous and you have shown to us no matter which way you color them, glitter or not, they are both equally very appealing. Ever since I participated with different card drives, whose request to not use glitter, I would have to choose the first card. That’s the only reason I would pick the first over the second 🙂

  8. I don’t know if my first comment went through or not – but these are terrific! I like it with or without the bling. So pretty.
