Happy Monday.
I hope you all had a great weekend! I got to play in my crafy room yesterday and saw that it was stencil week across at Just Us Girls. As it's Christmas in July, I thought a Christmas card made with the new Waffle Flower Open Book Nativity Stencils would be perfect.
It's no surprise that the Waffle Flower Open Book is one of my favorite die sets and I love that they came out with two stencils for Christmas in a recent release. Here's a sneak peek:
And here's the challenge bade from Just Us Girls.
I began by die-cutting the book and then used each of the matching stencils to color in the scene. I used much richer colors than I normally would because I used my Sarah Renae Clark Color Box for some inspiration. I just love the rich greens, teals and browns that were in the inspiration photo and I found a piece of very old SU DSP from the Wrapped in Plaid release years ago.
Once I had completed the stenciling, I added the sentiment from the Open Book Holiday sentiments set and then adhered it to the card base. The upper part of the pages of the book are popped up with foam tape to give them some dimension.
I decided to add a gold angel from the Glory Angel die set – also from Waffle Flower. Here's my card:
I left the area in the middle of each page, and around the images of Mary and Joseph, paler to make it feel as though there was light emanating from them. I colored the pages of the book with a Warm Buff ink from PinkFreshStudio as I felt it mimicked the feel of old pages. I love the way the colors turned out.
Oh, and here's the inspiration card I used for my colors:
Although the colors aren't exactly the same, I think you can see where the inspiration came from. The rich dark green, the paler browns and the rich brows pair together beautifully. I needed to add a touch of blue and decided a mix of teal/purple would work with the colors from the inspiration card.
