Oriental Poppies for Addicted to CAS

Hi Everyone.  Happy Saturday.

 It's the fabulous Sylvia's turn to host our Addicted to CAS challenge this week and she has a great word for us:

As usual, there are so many places you can go with this code word and the design team created some amazing cards for your inspiration.  

I checked through all of my stamps and realized that I didn't really have anything that was obviously oriental, so I looked through my digital SU stamps and saw the fabulous poppy stamp.   

When I was growing up, these exotic flowers were only ever referred to as Oriental Poppies.  They were most frequently seen on Poppy Day – Remembrance Day in the UK, and in many parts of Europe.  Once I saw this digital stamp, I knew I had my choice for the challenge this week.  You can read all about Oriental Poppies here

I opened up My Digital Studio and sized the stamp to fit and printed it out.  I colored it with a mix of SU markers and copic markers.  I really find coloring so relaxing.  Once I was finished coloring, I stamped the sentiment onto a piece of white cardstock and put everything together.

On a personal note:

I've had a little time to work in my craft room this week – but NOT making cards.  I ended up FINALLY breaking out my art journal and created a page.  Now… this will never be a "natural" thing for me, but I SO enjoyed it.  I really battled with the fact that my hands were constantly covered in SOMETHING… whether it was paint or gesso or ink or matte or cleaning fluid.    I know I'm a crafter, but I am a meticulous – actually obsessive – about not getting my hands dirty.  I gave up baking because I can't stand the feel of pastry on my hands.  

Now that you know that…. you have to believe me that this really pushed me out of my comfort zone – literally – and forced me to get over myself!  In the end, I really enjoyed playing around with different things.  I still don't like getting my hands covered in "stuff", but I will get used to it.   

The other thing that I have to get used to…….. my art journal will never be the totally clean lines, with totally straight stamping and everything exactly where I think it should be.   I realized that art journaling shouldn't be as structured, it should be more organic.   THIS is going to take getting more used to 🙂    After all that… I did get two different layouts completed and am now going to seek out some different techniques!

The weather has been cool and fall like.  I'm NOT ready for fall yet…. but it is beautiful 🙂
