Peaceful Season

Hi Everyone.  Happy Wednesday night.  I hope you are all having a great week so far.

I have a quick card for you tonight.  Another Christmas card.  I seem to be addicted to the right now, and we haven't even celebrated  Thanksgiving yet!

I wanted something fairly clean and simple, but with lots of bling.  I LOVE the sentiment from SU's Peaceful Season (retired).  I decided to pair it with the tree from Christmas Lodge and the "twas the night before Christmas stamp from Waltzingmouse.   I know that this sounds a lot, especially when you pair it with an edging die using the fabulous Silver Glimmer Paper – and ribbon!  So, to keep it still somewhat clean and simple, I layered it altogether using vellum paper.  I also kept it to a very simple gray, silver and white color scheme.  Of course, I had to use a bell!  This time it was from the Stampin' Up! Holiday Mini – Mini Jingle Bells. 

Here's what I came up with

Card recipe – all ingredients Stampin' Up! unless otherwise noted:

• Card stock:  Whisper White, Basic Gray.  Silver Glimmer Paper
• Stamps:  Peaceful Season, Frostwood Lodge.  'Twas the Night Before Christmas (Walztingmouse)
• Accessories:  Mini Jingle Bell.  Ribbon (from personal stash). Silver elastic cord (retired)
• Tools:  Snowflake Die (sizzix).  Big Shot.  Pewter Embossing Powder 
• Inks:  Basic Gray, Versamark. 

• I began by stamping the poem onto Whisper White card stock using Basic Gray ink. 
• I then cut two layers of Vellum.  The tree was stamped in London Fog ink (non SU) and layered over the poem
• The final layer of Vellum was stamped with the Peace on Earth sentiment in Versamark and embossed with the Pewter embossing powder
• I adhered the layers together with a thin layer of snail at the top (this was hidden by the ribbon) and heavier layers of snail at the bottom, where it was hidden by the snowflake border.
• Tip:  When heat setting embossing powder onto Vellum, ensure that you fully heat up your heat gun before putting it anywhere near the vellum.  VERY quickly run the heat gun over the wording to stop it curling and "bumping".  I am sure that's a very technical term 🙂

The layers look beautiful together, I wish I could have gotten a better shot for you.  It really is a pretty card, and the glimmer paper glimmers even without a bright light.

On a personal note:

Those of you who have been visiting my blog for a while will know that I am a "rescuer".  I rescue most things, with the exception of mosquitoes.  Even those I won't kill as we tend to use mosquito repellants instead of mosquito killing stuff.  Well, we were at the appliance store on Friday last week looking at appliances.  In the middle of this HUGE storeroom I heard a chirp, chirp, chirp.  I looked around and there was a little sparrow trapped in the store.  Apparently she had gotten in via the loading dock door, which had since been closed, and she was now trapped inside.

We walked around looking at stoves and   and all I could hear was this chirping.  It really bugged me that she was trapped inside, so I took a leave of absence from looking at appliances to see what I could do for her.  Luckily, she was a smart little bird.  She was sitting in front of this huge plate glass window on a lamppost (which was in the lighting display).  She could see the trees outside, and knew that she should be able to get there, but a huge pane of glass separated her from the tree – and freedom.  

Well, I am a pretty smart bird, too! :-)  and noticed that there was an emergency exit not too far from her.  I walked over, pushed the door open, managed to find something to prop it open and then went back to find her.  I managed to help her fly to the right area and she worked with me… smelled the fresh air – and off she went thru the door.   She stopped right outside the door and chirruped, before flying off to the tree.  I'd like to say that she was saying thank you :-)  I cannot tell you how much better I felt knowing that she was outside and out of harms way.  That was my good deed for last week!
