Happy Sunday.

It's the fabulous Ann's turn to host our Paper Players challenge this week – and this is her theme:

I know most of you would the thinking beaches, sand, lakes, school holidays … but for me… my card was based on what was going on outside our front door!

The Robins had nested in our front door wreath again this year and we have spent the last couple of weeks watching her feather her nest (with the finest grasses, I might add), lay her eggs, roost and regularly turn her eggs and then we saw the little babies grow from tiny little things to bigger things that were always hungry!  We then watched them as they grew and stretched their wings and jostled for position.  Yesterday we got to see them fly away.  As Robin's do nest twice, we are hoping that she will come back again later in the summer and we get to see this all again.

So, that's what I thought about when I made this card!  Especially when the temps were 99 degrees here yesterday – it definitely felt like Summer!  It's going to be slightly cooler today – only 94!

For my card, I started by stamping and die-cutting the Boxwood Wreath and the little wrens.  I wanted to use the Robin's but they were a little big for wreath.  To add a little interest, I decided to die-cut the middle of the wreath and stamp the sentiment on the inside of the card.  It was such an easy card to put together and I enjoyed making a square card for a change!

Here's my card:

Here's what it looks like when it is closed:

Here's the rest of the sentiment on the inside of the card.  I placed it just below the wreath so you wouldn't see it all when the card is open

Mommy and Daddy Robin visited the jelly feeder quite regularly as they were feeding the babies.  Oh, and the garden is down quite a few worms!  Here's a photo I captured of the male at the feeder:

Here's a photo of the wreath on the door with the babies.  Here's a photo of the inside of the nest once the babies had flown the coop:

And one of the wreath – you can see they were pretty well camoflaged:

But if you look closely – and at just the right angle, you can see a peek of the nest.

Of course, it drove the cats completely crazy and they would spend hours watching the nest from the front door.  If you look at the photo – the nest is on the left hand wreath and is the bulge right at the top of that wreath with Charlie at the base of the door watching intently…. waiting for the babies to pop their heads above the nest!

Anyway, so now you have the full history of why my card features a wreath and some birds!!!

I hope you will join us and play along this week.  As always, the design team have some fabulous inspiration for you:

I'll be back tomorrow with another card – and some bird photos.  In the meantime, warm hugs and prayers for those of you who need a little lift today.

Hugs

Jaydee

  1. What a wonderful card, and robin pictures to go with it, Jaydee! Your photos are always amazing. What a fun Sign of Summer right outside your front door! Have a wonderful week!

  2. Awesome card reflecting the Robins! The trio of butterflies was a nice touch too. I always enjoy your posts, Jaydee!

  3. It must have been beautiful to see Mother Nature’s at work. I can imagine your joy!!

  4. Love the card and the nest pictures. I can well imagine the cats wanting to see the birds.

  5. Such a fun wreath…and a fun inspiration for it as well. I can honestly say I have NEVER seen any of our robins at any feeders…they are strictly worm-eaters and stay on the ground! So interesting! Beautiful creation for the summer theme!

  6. How lovely Jaydee – both the card and the wildlife that inspired them! I love watching things like this – we had a pair of blue tits raise 5 babies in one of our nest boxes fitted with a camera and it was fascinating viewing! Great idea to cut out the centre of your wreath for a peek-through sentiment too. Lovely!

  7. Aw!! Birds nesting is a sign of spring and summer for use too! We get bluebirds in our nesting box for 2-3 nests each year so we get to watch all the goings on as well (we have a video feed from inside the box so we can see it all lol!) I love your bright colors and sweet heart wreath for the card! Hope you’re having a great week!

  8. Your photos always amaze me! You have the best visitors. I always wish I could sit on your porch with you and watch all these lovely creatures. Your card is just fabulous! I love the gorgeous wreath and the little birdies are so colorful and fun! I hope you have a lovely weekend, My Friend!
