Silver and Black Christmas

Hi Everyone.

Quick post for you tonight.  It's 9.30 and I only finished work an hour ago and haven't had time to get a card ready to post for you!

This is a card that I made over the weekend for the crittersketch challenge – isn't that a great name!  I loved the clean lines of the sketch and decided that I really needed to play with some masculine colors.  Now, silver and black are masculine, but, because they are also very "blingy" together, it's a card that works both ways.

I was really happy with the way the card turned out.

Critterchallenge (2)

I really love the color scheme.  I also love the fact that the polka dots on the side panel echo the polka dots of the snow in the focal image – and, of course, the two pearls.  All you need is some metallic paper, an embossing folder and some silver embossing powder.

I stamped the focal image using Versamark and then applied silver embossing powder and heat set it.  I cut the central image to the size of the stamp and decided it needed no backing.  All I did was add some dimensionals.  I punched out the sentiment after stamping and applied that with snail on the top and dimensionals on the bottom.  Really simple – but this card proves that really simple, and quick to make, can still make a phenomenal impact.  This layout – and the final product – really speak to my clean and simple heart!

On a personal note:  Charlie went to the vet this morning.  It wasn't a good visit all round for him.  The vet and the vet tech were probably not expecting that 5#s of furball could turn into something they felt resembled a tiger.  he was terrified when the tried to restrain him.

They finally got him under and managed to perform his neutering and that is when we started to be able to put a story together.  This may help explain why he reacted so to being restrained. On Charlies right rear leg there are signs of trauma around the knee area – that you can only see on x-ray.  He also has four severe burns on each of his pads on that same leg.  They are almost healed, but look to have been pretty bad.  (I had suspected that something was wrong with his leg as he was showing sensitivity when stroked and sometimes stood a little odd.)  The consensus is that he has obviously suffered trauma on that back leg – and something that isn't normal.  What caused it – and whether there was anything else, we don't know.  Putting the healing injuries together with his extreme dislike of being locked in a room with people who are trying to restrain him, leads us all to believe that the trauma may have been inflicted by someone.

We will, of course, never know.  It's like a detective story.  All you can do is look at the facts and then try to build a picture.  He was very happy to be home, but wasn't happy about sitting.  Lou says he can absolutely understand why and feels he still bears the psychological scars of his own little operation!  Charlie was starving hungry when he got home but stood to eat – and did not sit as normal! Mmmm… I wonder why :-)  The pain meds really made him a little loopy….. poor little thing.  Mind you, we have managed to build up his body weight from the 5# when we picked him up to a total of 7.4# today!  that's quite an achievement!

I'm hoping he has a quiet night tonight and manages to get a good night's rest.  I am just about to go and give him his 3rd feed of the day and hoping that food and rest will make him feel a little better!

Prayers tonight for Trish, Germaine, T, Pri, Arthur, Angela, Hugo, John and Sue.

I hope you all have a wonderful Thursday.  thank you so much for spending time in my little area of the stamping blogosphere.  Your visits, your support and your comments are much appreciated.

Hugs to you all

Jaydee

  1. Beautiful card, Jaydee! These colors look so elegant together! Poor Charlie! We rescued a poodle several years ago who had been burned on all four pads with what the vet assumed were cigarettes. She recovered, and was an absolutely wonderful dog. She lived to be a glorious 17 years old, and still warms a corner of my heart.

  2. Poor Charlie,
Please keep Charlie. He really needs you after what he appears to have been through. Keep posting about him. I love to follow his progress.
Love this card today. I do have the stamp so can do one. Just nice and simple. Thanks.

Poor Charlie, to be in so much pain & yet he’s so sweet tempered–he’ll be an awesome pet for someone special. Please give him a pat for me.
Hugs, thoughts, and prayers for my cyber friends.
Have a great day One & All.

  5. What an elegant Christmas card. I love the colors and the way you did the polka dotted panel.
Poor Charlie-I hope he had a good night’s sleep and will soon be feeling better. I am glad that you were able to help him to have a better life!

  6. Oh oh oh, poor Charlie. Stories like that just break my heart. I just don’t understand how people can be so cruel to those who are defenseless. :o( I’m SO glad Lou found him and he is with you all right now. :o)
Oh, the card, RIGHT! Black and silver is such an elegant combination, and the card is simply beautiful. Do you use an embossing buddy to keep from getting stray embossing powder?

  7. With tears streaming down my cheeks…thanks you so much Lou for coming home and getting the car and Jaydee to go and pick up Charlie. He obviously was dumped, by some very cruel person with no heart or soul. Both you and Lou are so, so very good to Charlie and have saved him from a life of H_ll. Who know’s what would have become of him? I am so glad that he had befriended you and trusts the both of you, I know that inside he is feeling much, much better. There is an Animal Cruelty Commercial on T.V. every now and then, and when it comes on, I must get up and leave the room. I makes me just sick to think of such things, and I wish that they wouldn’t show them at all, because it just gives other people idea’s, silly, stupid, sick idea’s. I’ll get off my rant now. Sorry.
Jaydee, I love your Card. It is so Holiday-Seasonal like. I can’t get over how lovely the White,Grey, and Silver look together, my they are just gorgeous. I love how this Card you have created is so soft and serene and doesn’t scream “Christmas is here!” I like that it is just mellow and laid back. Wonderful job for not being prepared.
Still sniffling…Extra Special Thank You’s to those with Pets. You are true Angels. Well Wishes and Prayers for Everyone including ailing Pets, no matter how big or small. May you all be Blessed.
Cyber hugs and thanks to you Jayde, Trish

  8. Jaydee, this card is STUNNING! So elegant and sophisticated. I adore the color combination and the silver embossing on black is FAB-U-LOUS! LOVE it! Hugs to sweet little Charlie and to you for being such a angel to all your furry friends!

  9. Love, Love, Love this card.
I’ve never been a fan of black, but this baby changed my mind!
Pray tell what stamp you used – it’s just PERFECT, and I gotta find me one pronto!
