Space Friends for Time Out #288

Happy Thursday.

It is my absolute pleasure to join the fabulously talented team across at Time Out for their challenge #288.  I entered their challenge back in March with this card and was chosen as the winner for that week.  As part of that, I was lucky enough to win a gift certificate to Gina K – you'll be seeing those cards soon – and also a spot as a Guest Designer for their challenge #288.

I recently purchased the fun Space Friends by Simon Hurley and decided it was THE perfect set for the Time Out Challenge. Here's a quick sneak peek:

So, this theme made me smile for a couple of reasons. 

#1 My father was a Trekkie.  Now, that might sound normal, but trust me it wasn't.  My father was a mans-man.  He was an ex-boxer, wrestler, fought in some of the worst battles in Burma and survived, he was a builder, a site foreman and controlled between 10-20 building sites at any one time, with hundreds of trades to keep in control.  He was definitely not into flights of fancy.  But, somehow, he just loved Star Trek and we watched it religiously every week on our little black and white TV, with yours truly acting as the remote control when the volume or channel needed changing.  My father found it funny and I could never get to grips with him loving this show.  Ever.  Decades later, I still can't – but it was wonderful to be able to visit that memory.   

So, what's the second reason?   Well, back in the 80s I was lucky enough to be able to visit Disney World and had a conversation with C3PO while standing in an interminably long line at the original Star Wars ride at Epcot Center.  Seriously, that ride was one of the most memorable, just because of the interesting things we did whilst waiting in the queue!  Conversations with C3PO being the highlight.

Thirdly, back in the 90s I was lucky enough to fly from London to New York on Concord.  Heavens to murgatroyd, that was the flight of a lifetime.  It's the closest I will ever get to the edge of the earth – and soaring 60,000 feet above the surface of the earth at mach speed – you could look out of the window and see the curvature of the earth.  Absolutely amazing!

So…. with all that background – you can imagine how pleased I was to be invited to participate in this particular challenge.

I decided to keep my card clean and simple.  I die-cut a circle and sponged the view of the earth on it – well, it's a representative sponging, but I think you get the point.  I stamped and heat set the astronaut and space ship and colored them with my Copic markers.

I stamped the sentiment and then adhered the elements to my card base, adding a couple of stars to emphasize that they were, in fact, in the sky!  I got so carried away that I made 4 cards with this theme and will be sharing the others with you in the coming week.

Oh, and here's my guest designer badge!  A badge I display proudly….. see what I did there…. inserted a nice little split infinitive to echo the most popular use of the split infinitive in cinematic history – one just about everyone knows….. to boldly go where no man has gone before :-).  Oh, my beloved English teacher, Mrs Tucker, would be so proud of me… NOT… she hated split infinitives!
