Happy Sunday.
It’s the fabulous Christy’s turn to host our Paper Players challenge this week and it’s theme week. It was a great excuse for me to bring out the Spellbinders Good Fortune Horse dies again and mix things up a little. As an aside, I used this set a few weeks ago for a FestiveFriday challenge. You can see that card here.
When I saw Christy’s challenge I had an entirely different card in mind, but it was the word unicorn that caught my attention and reminded me that I really need to think outside the box occasionally!
Here’s a sneak peek:

Now, don’t you think a unicorn would have a multicolored tail?!!!
Here’s Christy’s challenge for this week:

It was the picture in the bottom left corner that caught my eye and I realized that the stylized image would work perfectly if I added a rainbow mane and tail and a sparkly horn!
I began by die-cutt the horse, coloring the individual hairs of the main and tail with rainbow colors and then cutting a small triangle from glitter paper for the unicorn horn.
I needed a magical feel behind it, so I used an Alexandra Renke die called Dissolving Dots to create a circle with dots and then added a piece of silver glitter paper behind it. I then ink blended some pale blue ink over that area to help ground the unicorn. All that was left to do was add the sentiment and then pop up the unicorn.
Here’s my card:

I love this horse die, but had never imagined using it for anything other than a horse. But, with the addition of the rainbow and silver horn, I think it makes a very handsome unicorn!
I hope you will join us and play along with Christy’s theme this week. We would love to see what magic YOU create. As always, the design team have some fabulous inspiration for you:
On a personal note:
Well, demo starts tomorrow and the stair re-do starts Tuesday. Our contractor thinks that they will be finished as early as Friday next week! In the meantime, most of the work on my craft room is complete. We have to install bi-fold doors on the cupboards, frame and hang some art. Pretty things up a little and then it will be finished. So far the organization is working out great and I have recycled the storage solutions to our next door neighbor, so that worked out perfectly. Hopefully, I will be able to share some photos of the updated stairs with my Paper Players post next week.
In the meantime, warm hugs and prayers for those of you who need a little lift tonight.
Card recipe:
- Die: Good Fortune Horse – Spellbinders
- Background die: Dissolving Dots – Alexandra Renke
- Sentiment: Magical Birthday – Waffle Flower

A rainbow unicorn and a sparkly moon – what could be more perfect!
The unicorn is just delightful with the rainbow mane and tail, plus the sparkly horn is perfect for a little magic feel! Great way to repurpose that pretty horse die! Love the background too. Good luck this week with the demo, Jaydee! I look forward to seeing pics of your remodeled crafty space.
Beautiful, Jaydee! I love how you transformed this horse into a unicorn. The rainbow mane and tail are perfect. A unicorn this gorgeous deserves to be in front of a sparkly moon. What a perfect card for the challenge! Have a wonderful week! I know you will love the stair renovation.
With the brilliant addition of the horn and the aura behind your horse, this is definitely turned your card into a magical card!
I just love this, Jaydee! I really liked that horse die but it sold out before I could buy it for myself. I love how you gave your unicorn a rainbow mane–I used to have a giant unicorn stuffie named Rainbow : ) I think the very simply background is perfect for grounding your unicorn without distracting from its beauty. Thanks for making my challenge shine!
I loved the original card you made using this die Jaydee (s perfect for this year’s Chinese New Year celebrations!) and this rainbow unicorn is equally fabulous! I think it demonstrates the versatility of this die to perfection (definitely not a one-trick pony, if you’ll excuse the pun) and the glitter behind is perfect. Gorgeous!
Well, this is the prettiest unicorn ever! That background is just magical! SO neat!
Jaydee, you are a genius turning this horse into a unicorn! I absolutely LOVE the rainbow tail and mane and the sparkly horn! The background is just fabulous to show this beautiful unicorn off! Just magical! Good luck with the reno! I can’t wait to see pictures. Have a lovely weekend, My Friend!
